Cody Johnson and I did a pretty sweet secret handshake before our finals match. Some people liked it, some hated it 🤷‍♂️

State only? Or can we include the 132 finals at Mishawaka this year?

FWSS will have a few more placers in the coming years and I’m confident some of the changes that are happening will produce better wrestling as a whole from our SS.

Heavyweight finals at Fort Wayne was a blast to watch. Both hit fantastic high crotches and moved their feet the entire time. Tons of action from two units!! Muncie came out on top. Thanks for a great show Muncie and Erb. I felt like I was watching 106

Maybe I am getting old and grumpy, but the Al Smith is Mishawaka's tournament. I get that people want them to do everything they can to make it happen, but at the same time, the tournament is a massive undertaking. It consumes a week of Dean and Steve and Adam and everyone else's life in the middle of the holidays. It has a plan and a schedule and years and years of rhythm and planning.

The tournament is not just something you pick up and move out of town. Alter it and it loses its identity. Just my thought.

    How about this...

    4 locations with 8 teams
Run an 8 person individual bracket with true 2nd on the first day with the top 2 advancing to the second day at Mishawaka.
Second day run an 8 man tournament with the winners from each location.

Elkhart is currently in the same boat as Mishawaka. No club or camp is currently being permitted.

This has been frustrating as surrounding districts are being allowed to start with both camp and club. It's hard to explain to parents who are eager and looking for answers.

Just got word this morning the West Noble JV Invite was cancelled for this year. Is this going to be the trend...thoughts? Are you still planning to host your tournament?

Currently, we are set to host three and I haven't yet been told otherwise by our administration but I also understand things can change in a blink.

Just looking to follow this up. I thought it was a valid concern and something we should all be considering as we gear up for our season.

What are you guys thinking about how you will run practices? We've discussed creating groups of four for practice and you can only work within that group.

The question was brought to me by my AD about using two mats for duals but only running one match at a time and once one match ends, cleaning the mat between matches. Seems like it would make the dual take twice as long but is it necessary?

Tournaments, do you have hospitality rooms? Do you have tournaments at all? Do we modify our schedule and compete in multiple duals a week?

What are your plans to prevent the spread?

I heard Y2 was going to be coaching this team so he could compete with Penn on a regular basis. I also heard the superintendent promised, if he signed on, to turn North Side Gym into a wrestling only facility for training and competition. Just rumors though.

Coach, keep hosting an awesome RTC, last night was MASSIVE!
To those not showing up: Last night they had several state qualifiers and two State Champions in attendance. This has been consistent every Tuesday since they started. If you're in the area and not showing up, you're getting passed up. I can't count that high but I estimate there were more than 60 kids getting better!

As always, Steve Krah does justice to the story.  Hats off to Coach Whickcar for and staff for a storybook season last year - capped off with a sectional title that came down to 5 teams in the final round.  As for Xander, I'll be one of the most vocal of all his fans.  If anyone has watched this team in recent years you'd remember Xander b/c he used to be the one who would almost get disqualified for using all of his blood time every match!  He has always been a gritty, tough competitor.  With a coach like Whickcar it was only a matter of time until Xander was top tier.  Like the other outstanding athletes Whickcar has produced thus far: Tredway, Guerra, Boyd... Xander is also an outstanding person.  He is the kind of person you want your kid to hangout with (for help with homework, character, or mat technique)!
Thanks again to Steve for always supporting wrestling and telling the wrestling story from the Thanksgiving tournaments all the way to the 'Big Dance'.

Fact: All the LC wrestlers were originally seeded.
Fact: IHSAA says they can't be seeded because LC wrestlers don't have 6 qualifying weigh ins. (Because of clerical error) Although we know darn well they weighed in.
Fact: IHSAA decides not to punish the kids and imposes that all LC wrestlers are drawn into the 7 or 8 spot. Which in turn screws the entire sectional up and domino effects to the regional
Fact: The winter bulletin is worthless and contradicts itself. Wrestlers have to have 6 qualifying weigh ins in order to be entered in the tournament. Then later says wrestler without 6 qualifying weigh ins can't be seeded.
Fact: The IHSAA will pick and choose which rules they want to follow.
Fact: There isn't anyway to logically reason with the IHSAA.

As regards to my son, no final decision has been made whether he is going to be released from Perry. It is looking like it will not go in our favor the coaching staff at Perry are working hard to get their AD to release him. To the outside world that does not know everything that has been going on, only the recent drama around his wrestling, it would appear this is strictly wrestling related. I can only tell you that, first, I have two daughters in Center Grove, we have always and still live in Center Grove. He went to Center Grove from kindergarten to eighth grade, 8 years. Went to Perry because it is literally 5 minutes from our house we live on the south side of county line which puts us technically in Center Grove. As we were planning on moving over into Perry District we wanted him to start and finish at that High School. My daughter being a Jr and my other daughter in middle school did not want to change schools, so we decided not to move out of Center Grove but just make it work. I never had any expectations of him being able to finish out this season. I already knew that was one thing he was going to have to deal with because of my mistake of starting out of the district. And to think he may have to sit out until this time next year because of decisions adults have made. I've always said I cannot believe that the kids are the ones to get caught up with this stuff. Lastly, if by some chance it all gets worked out and Brayden is released to wrestle this season, we would never step into a room and wrestle off the kid that has been in that spot because we transferred. We are not that type of people and Brayden is not that type of kid. The only way he steps into a spot in that room is if it is agreed upon by that kid. Y'all that don't know us may not believe that, but you all that do, you know that that is the way we are. This is not the way I want his memories of high school to be. Just everybody try to remember that when you're on here talking about all this stuff, if it is good or for kids bad or whatever it is about the kids. They get on here probably as much as we do. I would never want Brayden to get on here and talk about somebody, calling him garbage or some of the stuff I've seen. I'm not judging anybody. Just asking everybody to remember what this is all about.
