That's a pretty glass half empty outlook on a pretty good weekend.  We have been behind numbers wise from Illinois and Ohio forever and that doesnt resolve overnight.  It's my understanding that every one of those names listed above have individually qualified for Fargo, meaning that if they were top 3 at ISWA, that spot is now freed up to allow MORE Indiana wrestlers a chance to gain experience in a great Fargo environment.  I would say it will take some improved communication from the state level and hopefully some statewide encouragement to sign kids up for the spots...but that list of names from this weekend all showed up and put in work that we should celebrate and build off of.  Congrats to not only those who placed, but all who competed, keep putting in the work!!

The only division that required a qualification was the Girls Showcase. Only other qualification is enough money to fly out to Vegas.

These are UWW age groups which are based on 3 year increments in most circumstances and utilize the ever popular metric weight classes.

For all the negative, there is always positive. From this past weekend..eight kids from five different teams.

I actually feel like a lot of good things are happening off the mat.

This weekend was high emotion, and that breeds tension.

I saw kids that were finished staying to watch placement matches. Many of these kids weren’t from the same school, club, region or semi-state. I saw kids that don’t know each other talk and interact and support each other. I saw parents hug their kids and tell them how proud they were. I saw coaches tell a kid how much they’ve grown.

I would argue there is more of that than the opposite. Bad things get a lot of attention, but I think we should focus on all of the good stuff instead.

The future is bright in Indiana for wrestling. This tournament seems to get tougher every year, and that’s awesome.

Yup, you sure got them...if it weren't for their multiple recent state champions and their kids signing some sweet scholarships to great programs, they would probably lose sleep over you not approving of how they did it

Couldn't agree more...we talk alot about wanting more participation in the sport especially from our football players but we continue to limit the spots for bigger guys in favor of the smaller weights.  I know it's meant to reflect the college rosters, but keeping more kids involved through high school grows the sport.  It's a tough sell for recruiting athletes to get them to sign up to go out and give up 50+ pounds trying to compete.  It feels like we have painted ourselves into a corner where the argument against additional upper weights is limited athletes participating and the obstacle impeding getting more athletes is there isn't a spot for them to wrestle!

True, but why should that limit the kids from having an opportunity like the post above? Let me guess, the state associations would really want 13 but are having a hard time justifying it. This sport is both a team & individual sport as you know. There would be plenty of 250 lbers to go along with 215/220 & Hwts. I'd love having more linemen or those big fullbacks/running backs on the mat to get better for football and learn lessons in life from wrestling. Definitely needs to be tweaks on duals vs individual tournaments for sure. This community in the state is one of the few that can seed a tournament and definitely could figure it out without the NFHS or IHSAA and their outdated methods.

SLAPtheMAT1313 reacted to Y2CJ41 in Indiana Wrestlers at Super 32
The Super 32 does not require a USAW card.
Folkstyle is academic grade in school and olympic styles are age based??
USAW events such as folkstyle nationals and Fargo are age based. However, USAW events such as this weekend's Preseason Nationals is based off of grade.

On tournaments such as this with the high school and middle school classifications...is it set up strictly off school grade registered?
The Super 32 has two age divisions for youth and then middle school and high school age(can wrestle in the high school division in 7th and 8th grade).

Do the participants have to provide like a school transcript, because their USA card wouldn't cover that?
Not usually, but if challenged would need to provide verification of their grade. This is rare and usually would happen before the event if a keen parent sees a freshman is registered for the middle school division for instance.

Then, how would that work for home schooling??
Kids are technically in a grade so they'd need to utilize this as their grade.

First, the fact that "VisionQuest" is pointing out that the best can be beaten, is Awesome...great movie
Second:  It is correct that the record book will always list R. Talamantes as the 92 champ...he beat all the available opponents...no asterisks (except the giant one in my brain)
As far as what would have happened....COME ON!!
There are good/great wrestlers...and then there are next level DUDES...David was that DUDE...this all went down at a time where he hadn't lost for a couple years in North America..in any style...Double National champ '92 FS/Greco...etc...
Rico had the best (hands down) name over the loud speakers, but thats the only thing he would have won that day

First off, I think it's important to point out that none of this discussion is being made as a negative to the EMD kid, those two were quite even opponents, thats how you get to a discussion of OT..and there is absolutely nothing to say that with OT the outcome would have been any different.

I was also called out for using the word "cheated" previously...I had no intention of implying that the ref started out his day with the idea of intentionally doing any harm to any wrestler...and I apologize if it read that way.  My question is this....what word(s) would you use if trying to explain this to the OV kid??  "I am sorry, Bryce.  You did escape as caught on video, we awarded you the point, as caught on video...the table staff disagreed with the call, as caught on audio and didn't award you said point...and although we had TWO referees responsible for nothing other than the scoring of your match, couldn't keep track of the score that SHOULD have totaled a whopping 4 points in 6min...then neither could be bothered to review it with the OV coaches when they questioned it...because they had NOWHERE else to be as it was the last match of the ticket round!  But don't feel cheated...it was just unfortunate!
