Just another added pressure on kids that means nothing. I just want 4 straight wins at State. Never had the pleasure to see my kids go unbeaten in Season (yet) . Came close but got beat by a better wrestler that year it happens. Got beat by National Ranked kid that he beat at Super 32, hmmm... the other kid must of did something I’m about to tell you guys .
I’d rather see a loss now than get it at State Finals . Take a loss now to a good wrestler, learn from it . Keeps you hungry like a Wolf. If your unbeaten you gotta learn from those wins . If your not learning from those wins, your going to taught a painful lesson from someone who has. Hey... stole one from the great Coach Sanderson , twisted it a bit . #evolve

regardless the thread was about undefeated kids not an adult cutting a great young man down... And let's say he is undefeated afterwards are you gonna apologize? oh that's right I wouldn't expect somebody that hates on a kid to actually have tact.

I know I’m essentially echoing everyone else’s thoughts here, but having a family member on his team for the past 6 years I have had the pleasure to watch this young man wrestle on a regular basis. I just want to say I have been around a lot of high school athletes over the past 20 years. It’s easy for a kid as talented as Silas to develop an ego. I have never met a more humble, polite, appreciative young man that takes nothing for granted. While he is obviously a great athlete, he isn’t a kid that was just born with ability, he has truly worked for everything he has accomplished. It has been a pleasure to see his development and it will be fun to watch him continue his journey towards his ultimate goal.

First coached against this kid at the team state in 2016. Silas was a freshman and won a big match of two highly ranked 170lbers. No celebration, no non sense, strictly business. Shook hands walked off of the mat. He will be a great role model for Indiana Wrestling going forward. Congrats!

Great kid and great wrestler. Best wishes on a speedy recovery from the Beech Grove wrestling family. Hope to see you on the mat next weekend!

sstark reacted to slice60 in Gavin Rose
From IndyStar article:
It wasn’t until the 132-pound bout where Warren Central’s perfect start was put in jeopardy. Greenfield-Central senior Gavin Rose led Warren Central’s Aundre Beatty 3-2 in the final period.
But as Beatty knotted up the match with an escape late, Rose went down. For more than 10 minutes, trainers, coaches and support staff surrounded the senior wrestler as they stabilized his left ankle and helped get him off the mat in a wheelchair.
Rose, who finished seventh in the state at 113 last season, came into the sectional finals match with a career-best 32-2 record. As he was wheeled out of Warren Central’s gym, the senior received a standing ovation.
“He’s got the biggest heart of any kid I coached. It’s disappointing, but we’ve got to wait and see what the doctor says,” Greenfield-Central head coach Josh Holden said. “I know he was in pain but that doesn’t always mean you’re done. I think that was his fear and that’s why he was so emotional, he was just worried about next week.
“He’s probably telling the doctors right now, ‘How do I wrestle next week?’”

I guess that depends on how you are defining “best”. If “best” means the semi-state with the most state champions predicted by the rankings guy, then perhaps. If “best” means the one with the most hype, then definitely. (The Region seems to be falling down in that area a bit this year. Where is Da Rat and his cohorts been this year?)
But if you are defining “best” as “most crowded” with high quality wrestlers (as I think Maligned calls it), then not so much.

sstark reacted to Indysportsfan in Toughest Weights at Each Semi State
New Castle has 20% more wrestlers ranked in the Top 5 & 40% more teams ranked in the Top 20. Personally I would call them damn near a draw in toughness to advance, but I guess using #'s for factual reasoning is an error of mine.

It’s so nasty at EVV SS that it’s hard to pick which is the toughest. Go take at look at the post by TeamGarcia for his breakdown of EVV SS. Every single class is LOADED.
