  1. Great post. My grandsons have come up through the AC system over the years, some family currently in the Bellmont and Leo systems too. It's a heated match every year with Bellmont and AC. I've said it for a while and it may sound bad since Bellmont is coming off an undefeated season but AC and other surrounding schools have been putting in as much or more in their youth programs as some of the older powerhouses in the area. I think we're going to see that work pay off over the next few years. AC is young, and if the elementary and MS kids stick to it will keep reloaded over the next handful of years. From my point of view of watching the elementary duals and MS duals between the 2 schools with my grandkids, AC is looking to be the studs of the County soon on the HS level. With that said, Bellmont wins easily tonight somehow lol. They always do.
  2. I'm glad to know they realize they have someone special.
  3. 22 Duke Myers was out all year due to a medical issue. I saw him moving around just fine yesterday at the Adams Central Invite. Bellmont was undefeated this year as a team, and could have been better with Myers and another tough kid who didn't wrestle.
  4. I'll be the old man at the Coaches Tavern down the street with ear buds in listening and sipping a beer. Stop by and say hi.
  5. Any word on Caden Friedt? 195 from the FWSS....injury forfeited his championship match. That kid has had some of the worst luck with injuries. Although he's a Bellmont guy and sadly I was a few feet away when his knee snapped last year vs Adams Central, I pray it's not the same issue this time.
  6. I don't remember the ref of the Beeks/Hardcastle match, but it wasn't the god awful one from the Al Smith, was it? I know he was on Mat 1 a lot that day, with quite a few terrible calls.
  7. Not a huge upset but, Currie from Adams Central winning 145 after Ulrick beat Fiechter. Fiechter took it to Currie several times this year, although the match at Regionals was a nail biter. Lawson from Bellmont getting stuck in a cradle by Chacon when Lawson was controlling the match. Winner getting beat by Lone....again not really a huge upset. Very boring match. Cottingham losing to Shelton shocked me at 132. Mason over Mccune at 152. I thought it was Mccune's to lose.
  8. Trent was great for Yorktown. He had a way of inspiring others to want to go there. He helped my sons and my grandsons at an open tourney years ago because I had no idea what I was doing. He asked me if I would mind if he would coach them matside for the day. At first I thought it was a joke, it was not. He coached them the rest of the day. A lot of the local guys around the Adams County area like to throw the word "recruiter" out there, I know nothing of that. I just know he went out of his way to help these random kids out. I'm in the minority, but it's sad to see such a great program become laughable in just a couple/few years.
  9. Lee looks to have taken his game to the next level. To me Red has stayed the same. I don't know if it's coaching, physical/mental growing, desire, etc.....but Lee looks a lot better at this point. Either way, it was so cool to see those guys wrestle again. I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
  10. I loved sitting in my man cave with the Berne Witness streaming on my tv. Everything seemed to go smooth. Two thumbs up!
  11. Agreed. I think at best we'll see a 2nd, but most likely a couple/few 3rd's.
  12. There's a young man from South Adams that could be on the 106 list. Been watching him work our middle school kids for a few years. The Jay County 113 should be a SA starter. Not sure why he's down in Jaytucky this year.
  13. I don't remember where I read it, but I saw Bellmont (a 2A school) has athletic participation numbers on par with a 1A school. If true, that speaks volumes for the quality of the wrestling program. It's also a scary to see what the future holds for you guys. I was surprised our Middle School took it hard to BMS last year, and not only in wrestling (but especially wrestling). Our youth and High School programs are thriving in Monroe and often times beat the Decatur teams (we won't even talk about football). Many Decatur kids play in our baseball league and some of our wrestlers live in Decatur as well. I'm not sure if it's Section 8, parents, the kids, the river water? Something isn't right up there.
  14. Chop chop. I'm hoping for some ammo to fire at the Bellmont groupies at work tomorrow. HA!
  15. I thought that was a gimme? Congrats though. You coaches have the entire lineup and backups motivated and working hard.
  16. Just posted similar sentiments in the results thread. They did a great job this year.
  17. I must correct myself. Adams Central lost by a combined 6 points in their 3 losses. I just looked at the score board and didn't realize it came down to a tie breaker on criteria. An unseeded squad nearly came home 5th (a match or two away from a top 4 too!) Amazing job by Currie and the kids on our "down year". Look out! Congrats to Bellmont. Even when we in the County think they're down and might have another rough year or two (they have a couple studs not wrestling this year and their upper weights are green horns), they pull out some great team wins. As they have all season so far. Garrett put up a good fight this time, impressed by their 106, 113, and 126. In other (area) news, SA was a disappointment to me. I thought they would compete a little better with the kids that have come up through their middle school system. They had 1 win on the day, for 11th. Jay County looked outclassed in 2A. 1 win on the day for 10th. What was up with Western and Oak Hill? I think they were the heavy favorites to be in the finals. Was not impressed by either team. I've said it many times to many people. Bluffton (1A) should have been voted in. They would have easily been top 4, most likely in the Championship. Other than that, the people who put on Team State did an amazing job. Went very fast and smooth.
  18. I was standing behind the scoring table for the Bellmont and Garrett match, I couldn't see anything. With that said, I'm very proud of the defending 1A champs, Adams Central. Went in unseeded....they lost by a combined total of 7 points in their 3 losses. For a team that young coming off a strong football season....look out 1A teams next year!
  19. Bluffton would have been fun to watch this year. Adams Central may be a tough matchup, but we won't compete for Team State. Give our young kids a year or two and we'll compete again.
  20. 2A, although less big names, could be anyone's title to have.
  21. Thanks for the updated rankings. I look forward to seeing some more Adams County names soon!
  22. A year or two ago at the Elementary Dual at Jay County, Wauseon and the loaded Rochester squad had a dual to the very last second of the last match. Wauseon was/is tough.
  23. Rival Nights are a blast. My grandsons are now in Middle School so they're too old...but we never missed a single one over the last 4 years. Some great area schools come out to participate as well. Zero pressure, parents can help pair up kids by size/age/grade. It used to be only $1 per spectator as well. Tons of mats with matches turning around fast.
