I don't think it's necessarily hating on Booneville because the athletes are beating the guys that they are competing against.  It's more that the record doesn't always give a fair description of how good or not the athlete will compete against a proven quality opponent.

You are wrong, blaming a scorekeeper because they didn't know whether the match continued or not is NOT their job. Their job is to run the clock and make sure the score is correct on the board. They should not be required to read the rule book before operating a score clock.

I hear he saying ... “touch that delete button and I’ll make you famous” then he goes into some rant of Woooo... Bang ! .... Bang ! .... Bang ! Or something. I don’t know, but that sounds about right .

This caught my attention,  but conventional wisdom is that its more difficult to qualify as a college ref then high school, and at the college level they get tougher evaluations then the high school level.  So this referee obviously has experience and is addressing his professionalism.   Also,   not sure of the refs status on applying for state tourney, but this referee still went through the process to  be an IHSAA ref.   I think its fair to say this referee is a NCAA referee and an IHSAA referee.    Ill give you there's a difference is NCAA officiating and high school, with some rules and even how things called, so line got blurred.    But Also I can see a parent of fan thats bias, and  not liking a call and making an excuse for a kids loss because they though they had a referee that's also a college official.
On your points without seeing the match, and don't time to review the whole finals even though I just scanned through on youtube.
    1.   Calling stalling and/or stalemates on top is very subjective.   Nothing wrong with calling stalemate on top.  Maybe call one or two then go to stalling.  Referee might be trying to move match along.
    2.   Out of Bounds rules are different between NCAA and NFHS.    So did the referee apply the rules wrong here?  Did coach question the application?
    3. Reaction time:   So what on a locked on hands call?  Yes the college game moves a lot faster, but is there a reaction time rule in High school that's different?  Yes, college refs have need to get a takedown or change of postion call ASAP as its affects riding time.  Be more specific here where reaction time is different.
    4.  Potentially dangerous,  NCAA lets some kids go crank on shoulders and legs more,  but was there a certain position where the ref should have made a  PD call?
    5.   High school refs (during the match) want only to be approached to the scorers table and generally don't want to be approached during a match.   Most refs would be glad to talk to the coaches after the match to discuss a call or situation (as long as its constructive).    Is it really any different at the NCAA level?
Also, there's not that much of a shortage of refs.  And i'm sure a big tournament like the Al Smith gets the pick  of referees,  so whoever this ref was he has impressed somebody to get an invite to ref this.  And since when do NCAA refs want to upstage college athletes.     The mentality of a good referee is to call the best match and apply the rules correctly.
Email me the match or matches in question,  I don't mind you opening the discussion.

Voicing an opinion to officials at live events is not nearly as inappropriate as an actual official &/or ex-official complaining about other officials on a social media forum - shame on you, SHAME ON YOU! No specific names is no excuse.
If you have an issue with any official who you believe is doing a poor job (for any reason) then confront that official privately or hold your opinion to yourself.

“NCAA” official is your name for these officials not mine. I was only aware of one “NCAA” official working the Al Smith you were obviously in attendance. Did you voice your opinion to these young officials?
You give a laundry list of accomplishments of what you have done, you must have more knowledge of the sport then the officials in question. They could benefit from your 20 years of experience.

My opinion. Is just that my opinion I do believe these are two of the stronger officials in the state. I would assume that is why they are being requested for the bigger tournaments and duals, By the coaches. Again my opinion, there are a lot of really great officials. If you want me to rank them In order I can do that also. Starting with Jim Russell at the top who was criticized on national forums after the dream team classic for his use of stalling.
I wouldn’t expect you to view it from my point of view, because I could never view it from yours. My point is from an unbiased observer who wants the best officials in the best matches.
Since you are so versed in the rules how are the top officials selected for the NCAAs and olympics. What is the rating system for these events?
In your first post which finals match was a parent removed? I had security by me the entire day with a radio I wasn’t aware of anyone removed or is that rumor you are spreading?
There were 4 team points taken the first day by the same official who has done the state finals and the girls state finals in softball. Who I think is a really good official also. Again I was sitting next to the track guru so I am more then aware of the situation. So again spreading mis truths.
Where are the wrestlers and parents that were going crazy?  not one mention on this public forum. The response in this post has been positive of the officiating. You seem to be the only person upset.
Also if you are the voice of criticism for officials where was your voice last year as the state finals for those questionable calls?
Again I don’t expect you to have the same opinion as I but don’t dismiss my opinion based on a “friendship” or because you have done this longer then I

I was at the same tournament and I've got to agree with ontherise on this topic.  We all have different opinions on certain calls, but from what I saw the officiating was pretty darn good.
We always are in need of more qualified officials so if you know someone that wants to be involved follow this:
In order to become a licensed IHSAA wrestling official you can follow this link for details on the process.http://www.ihsaa.org...72/Default.aspx

I would say I agree with some of this post and disagree with a lot. I am confused why we wouldn’t want better officiating.
I was at the biggest holiday tournament and had probably the best seat in the house. While I don’t agree with all calls, to try to single out a couple officials because they you do not agree or want it the old way is plain dumb.
There are a lot of officials that have a certain way they call matches not just “NCAA” officials. I would suggest that the officials in question are some of the best in the state.

WOC got a reaction from Perseverance in Lifting in season
When my son was in high school he took weight lifting class all 4 years.  This way he got his lifting in during school hours every day.  During in season he focused mostly on doing lighter weight and more reps.  On meet days, he typically wouldn't lift at all.  I recommend for all athletes to take advantage of this class if offered at your school and your schedules can allow it to happen.  In the spring about 3 weeks to a month after season was over he had increased his strength and his max greatly each year after he wasn't worried about maintaining weight.  I believe that he didn't lose strength and that it in fact increased because he continued his weight lifting during season.  Just my 2 cents.......

WOC reacted to Galagore in What benefit is it to be a wrestler?
As we started this season, I reached out to some former wrestlers for words to provide to the guys who think the sport isn't for them. These were guys who weren't "wrestling first" guys. These were guys who either had to be talked into being on the team, were there specifically to prep for football, chose not to wrestle one year, etc. This particular reply stood out, and I thought the Gorilla community might enjoy it. For the record, this is from a 2013 graduate. This particular wrestler was a one time sectional champion and did not qualify for semi-state. Somehow I find that makes his words more powerful...not from a top-dog guy. From a guy who was grinding every day just getting what he could out of the sport. Almost better than this longer version is the text he sent me later when I thanked him - "It's simple though, mentally, wrestling makes all other high school sports easier."

    The Struggle is REAL:
Wrestling at first glance seems like it’s mostly physical. I wrestled for four years and didn’t understand what it was doing for my mental development yet, so regretfully I took a year off. After a year away, luckily I enjoyed what it did for me enough physically to come back to the mat for another three years. I wish someone could snap their fingers, tell you that your hard work will be worth it, and you will just believe it.   Sorry, too bad it’s harder than that.   At first glance, it’s doesn’t seem so, but wrestling is more mentally than physically beneficial.    You know that feeling you have deep inside when you’re struggling? Just trust in yourself and know, that feeling is the first sign that you’re about to learn something new about yourself. Be conscious, have the wherewithal to push through the struggle for a solution, then take the time to reflect on what pushing through that struggle taught you, and ultimately you will have truly learned that NOTHING worth learning is easy. Each time you learn something new, it will breathe new confidence within you to go through the next struggle or barrier in your way.   Whatever you do, take the measures and have targeted objectives to get better at struggling. Break down personal barriers and do yourself a favor, use what you’ve learned to struggle for a shorter period the next time. Make the valleys shallower and the peaks higher with each learning experience.   Put in the time to learn the mental chess game that wrestling really is, and you won’t regret that decision. Learn how to strategically and more efficiently employ both your body and mind. Once you’ve learned how to tie a few good moves together, counter your opponent, and mentally grind through a full three periods, then win or lose you just took the measures to think one step ahead of the person in front of you; a skill you’ll use for the rest of your life.   Struggles will come as long as you live. Wrestling has mentally prepared me for handling trials and tribulations. I hope that you’ll have that same experience.

I'm pretty sure that even though a few of you guys say you don't do, teach, or show any Greco to your wrestlers, YA DO.   like it or not, you are , you may not be focusing on any rules or point system involved in the Greco style of wrestling, but you are teaching technique that came directly from Greco . It has its place in folkstyle, as does many other styles of wrestling.            On the topic of a triple crown, why or how could anybody downgrade an achievement of any young athlete? If he or she took the time, done the work  ,and got there hand raised , well then I bet its pretty important to a lot of people. the higher you lift it and the more you praise it , the greater it will become.

I just want to thank Joe and all the other people that put the time and effort to bring this event to Indiana and give our state the publicity it deserves on a National level.  All of our wrestlers were very impressive and put up a great fight against the top kids in the country (win or lose).  I appreciate Team USA coming to Indiana with a "nothing to gain, but everything to lose" situation.  Ty was able to capitalize and take out his opponent and has gotten a flood of national publicity.  Without all the work that was put into this, he would have not had this opportunity.  We found out yesterday that he was named the National High School Wrestler of the Week by TheOpenMat.

I'm pretty new to using this site, but it seems the following might be helpful.
    Question to ask yourself:
Is what I'm about to post something I would like feedback from the community on/ information for the whole community or am I making a personal attack/ asking an individual a question?
1st type: Starting or commenting in a thread is the place for you.
2nd type: Try using the message feature.... There is a feature on this site that allows users to sent a 'personal message'.  You just click on the person and then choose- the little envelope icon. It's easy

(PS- This is a test.  If you pass, I'll get the hate mail in my inbox if you don't appreciate help with manners.  If you fail you'll post your message here.  Good luck.)

This is Graham's mom. I'd like to make sure our side of this story is heard, as Joe seems reluctant to let this go for some reason. Most of Joe's account of what happened is true. Graham did not make the weight, cut and dry. Should he have? Of course. He tried everything within "healthy" reason to get down to 139 lbs.  Graham did text Joe asking how official the weigh in was because he had been to another tournament where the weigh in wasn't as "official" and he had worked hard to cut for it as well, without really having had to. Joe's response was "Be on weight, I don't want another Chad Red situation like we had at Pittsburgh." After contacting him on Thursday, letting him know he was still over 7 lbs, very disappointed that the weight wasn't coming off even after how hard he was working, Joe told him Mulkey was trying to get to weight but who ever weighed less would wrestle. There was no mention that they would still get to work out after the "official" weigh in. Graham asked him how much Mulkey was over and was not given an answer. So he messaged Blake on Thursday night after talking with Joe. This is the message you see above. He felt at that time that if Blake was under 5, it would be hard for him to get under that, and he would just give up the spot.  Mulkey never responded. He worked out all morning Friday and on our way to Indy, around 1:30,  Mulkey messaged him back saying he was 146. Graham was 144.6 at the time. We went ahead and continued to Brownsburg, still under the impression that whoever weighed the least amount would wrestle. When Joe got to Brownsburg HS, Graham weighed in, in underwear, at 144.4. Joe did not write his weight down. He never asked Graham if he was going to continue to work out. Graham got a drink, got his wrestling gear on and went out to the mat to practice. Mulkey walked in so he went back to the locker room to watch Mulkey weigh in. Mulkey weighed in at 144.4, no underwear. Nothing else was said. Graham went back out the the mat to practice. He never saw Joe or Mulkey again. He messaged Joe not long after, and while he was still at Brownsburg HS asking who was wrestling since they weighed the exact same and Joe said Mulkey was in. He asked why, and asked if Joe could come talk to him and explain. He never received a response. We ate, checked out the hotel that we had just checked into and went home. Graham messaged Blake telling him good luck. They wrestle together at Red Cobra and we think Blake and his family are great people.  On the way home, Joe called Ben, (at Cooper's request) and told him he was sorry that Graham didn't know he couldn't keep working out. The conversation ended friendly. We thought that was the end of it. We would like this to be the end of it. Please. Graham is the least dramatic person I know. While he's disappointed that he wasn't able to wrestle in this match, or to have his rematch against Woods, he's excited about his future in wrestling and the opportunities he'll have wrestling for Coach Escobedo at IU. He's blessed to have had such a great high school career under Coach Cooper at Columbus East.
