DCHawks reacted to Westforkwhite in Who's in,who's out
The same stuff happened 25 years ago. The whole, "we were tougher back when" gets tiresome. Maybe this is one of the reasons kids quit, they get told how soft they are constantly by these glory dayers.

DCHawks reacted to Y2CJ41 in CHANGE IN [PITA] WEIGHT MANAGEMENT!!
There is quality wrestling at every weight. If you fail to understand or see that you do not understand the sport very well. Heavyweight and 220 are two of the hardest weights to wrestle when you look at the body type and style difference amongst the athletes competing. Look at Robert Samuels and Rickie Clark, and try to prepare to wrestle those two and every other style and body type in between.

DCHawks reacted to navy80 in 4 OVER 1'S
It usually happens every year right? There will be shocking upsets tonight and some bracket busters! I think we will see AT LEAST five 4 over 1's tonight! Whats the record?
106
Herring 36-3 over Lowery 44-2
Stephenson 32-10 over Hickman 42-4 (strong senior over freshman)
Mattingly 27-5 over Curtis 39-0 (Curtis is the fav to win 106 but he has to beat a tough Greyhound first)
113
Egli 29-9 over Viduya 43-2 (just because it's Mater Dei)
120
Stehpenson 37-7 over Triana 39-3
DeMien 27-7 over Mejia 39-2
Sullivan 29-9 over Freije 37-7 (Freijie had a remarkable semi state but he shouldnt overlook Sullivan)
126
Lee 26-5 over Gimson 47-2 (Lee didn't impress me at Eville but he is a Lee and I have a feeling MD is going to bring it tonight!)
Dembowsku 26-8 over Slivka 37-3
132
Franklin 40-4 over Hunt 39-2 (tough senior wants to go out as a medalist)
138
?
145
Wathen 43-7 over Welliever 40-0 (reaching here but Wathen is no slouch)
Traficanti 23-5 over Winner 36-2
152
?
160
Miller 35-13 over Lemley 24-2 (Miller is no stranger to upsets)
Adkins 28-8 over Laughlin 42-1 (Adkins wrestles hard and goes after it..impressed me at EVille)
170
Hays 29-11 over Swank 33-3 (never doubt Center Grove and Jonah Hayes!)
182
Hendrich 33-7 over Davison 38-0 (Hendrich beat Sonner who was 42-0 at semi state...depends on which Hendrich hsows up)
Nix 39-5 over Jessop 24-2 (lots of talk about Jessop but Nix is no one to overlook)
195
?
220
Scroggs 41-4 over Parris 49-0 (very slim .05% chance this would happen but Scroggs is one of two 220lbers who could possible have a decent match with PArris)
285

DCHawks reacted to mathewsz7 in Cradle
Decatur Central late 80s mid 90s...but I'm gonna say the best cross-face cradle either goes to Nick Walpole or Sampson Cook...Cook wasn't very good on his feet, but the kid could cradle anyone...I remember seeing him down in alot of matches by 8-10 points, & he would choose top in the 3rd lock up his cradle & win by fall...

Do those kids realize they aren't supposed to lose to others like that? It totally screws up the rankings!

DCHawks reacted to RegionRoyalty in Best excuses
Maybe instead of poking fun at these excuses on a public forum, coaches could make wrestling more fun for the kids, while still working hard and improving.
As an outsider not associated with any team, it's very easy to see which teams and coaches are having fun, and which ones are not. Maybe its on the coaches to figure out creative ways to keep the fringe kids involved and having a good time, instead of just saying "kids these days don't want to work hard."

DCHawks reacted to MattM in Helen Maroulis Wins Olympic Gold!
Defeating the legendary Yoshida of Japan 4-1, who had not lost in 5the past 4 years of competition until today. If you don't know Yoshida look her accomplishments up, she basically has won everything for the last 14 years with only two (now three) career international loses. This win ranks up there with Rulan toppling the great Karelin.
Hopefully we will have a bronze in a few more minutes with Elena Pirozhkova. Then men's freestyle adding some medals into the weekend.

DCHawks reacted to GrecoCoach in IHSAA High School Women's Wrestling
Rugby and Lacrosse are going through this process right now. They developed well organized state associations for school club teams that sponsor state tournaments. After several years of development, they are getting closer to the 50% requirement. Some schools are starting to recognize them as "varsity" sports, even though they aren't IHSAA sanctioned yet.
When either or both hit that 50% mark, then the IHSAA has to sanction them. The IHSAA will probably want to balance boys/girls sports, and if women's wrestling was at or near the gymnastics number, they might have a chance. Unfortunately, there's a whole lot of work to do to get to that point.
