Not sure why everyone is shocked. Society is rapidly changing. People vilify hero’s like policemen (more and more are getting shot each day). People are just waking into stores and taking what they want. People refuse to take their hats off and stand for the national anthem. And idiots boo kids. More and more morals and values are going out the window. Hopefully this is just a “phase” that we all will work through… but… I wouldn’t count on it. It’s a shame.

If the people booing have spent more than a couple days in a real room and really knew what these kids go through, they would never boo. If they did wrestle and still boo, they clearly have forgotten what it takes just to make it through one tough practice. So.. for you boooers.. get off your fat a..es, go buy a pair of shoes, and try to do half a practice. I don’t mean sitting watching your kid. I mean actually try to do what these young kids do every day. Nothing like going to a tough youth practice and watching an old fat jerk ripping their kid on the way out. Those are your booers (for the most part).

So basically… for those who boo kids…. mentally try to put yourself in the kids shoes. It’s an emotional sport and these kids spend countless hours doing what you would never be able to do for one single practice. If you see something you don’t agree with… fine.. shake you head and have a discussion with your wrestler(s) that you would never want to see that from them. It’s ok to disagree with what a kid does in a heated moment. I promise the kid that slips up will have coaches and maybe parents that will try to address the issue. Having disconnected idiots booing them is not going to help. I assure you that a member of your team or maybe even family will slip up and have a less than stellar moment along their journey. How do you want the crowd to react when that happens?

I can attest to the fact that you truly do not know how hard practice is until you actually participate all practice.  Regardless, parents need to be better human beings, rather than boo ANY kid.

The feeler kid at 106 doesn’t cut much weight and is a pretty big 106. Maybe not enough technique. But, don’t make a mistake. Very strong little guy.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not hearing or seeing anyone here take anything away from these kids, quite the opposite. I know, I'm not taking anything away from them. I'm pretty damn impressed and have been for a while (including Rihanna Murphy if she were still in state).

If anything, "they have it harder." I think that is the point folks are making. It's subjective, but I think Miracle was as technically skilled and worked as hard as anyone in that 106 weight class when she qualified (including Micic and Boston).

By my account, there were 4 yesterday (Crull, Ocampo, Cantu, Buchanan; but correct me if I missed someone), which is definitely a new record for IN. I believe there has only ever been 1 or 2 in a given year.
Special shout out to Buchanan who qualified at 113. We're starting to rack up a fair number of 106 lb qualifiers over the years (I can think of at least 7 girls), but I believe Kayla Miracle is the only other semistate qualifier to weigh more than 106 (qualified at 120 her jr year).

Andy, I agree with you, particularly, in theory, but there too many incentives and workarounds. Any good wrestler whether kid, coach, or parent has two things in abundance: competitiveness and wherewithal.

What is the disincentive for a wrestler (or coach/parent) who is able to successfully cut that kind of weight even though they shouldn't? What if they can make State versus struggle to place at Semi-State in higher weight? They all know who their competitors are, what they weigh, and what they are up against. And, if they don't there is always someone or even this site or Track to inform them.

We all know tons of great kids that are cutting way too much weight. Don't we? And, I suspect we also know they are more successful at that lighter weight. They get recognitive from everywhere including the forums and the rankings. Yep, they'd be successful at a higher weight, maybe even two, but probably not 'as' successful.

That's a hard ask of any kid, coach, or parent. I'm, absolutely, not saying it's the right thing, but I understand the motivation and the difficulty of the problem.

All very true. I will not get on my soap box and give some big speech about how winning and getting to State isn't the most important thing and that should be trickled down from the top. What I will say from years of coaching and watching wrestling is that having a healthy wrestler that doesn't cut much weight and enjoys the sport more usually calculates to a better gas tank and a more rounded wrestler.  I watch so many kids in the offseason that look fit and strong and wrestle great. Then I see them later in the season and their faces are shrunk and a ton of muscle is lost. There is a reason it is easier for wrestlers to make weight at the end of the season then at the beginning. They have lost muscle. If you do it right your wrestler will actually get stronger throughout the season. To each it's own.

Ha! My son, starting at 87 lbs, spent 3 years battling kids anywhere from 5 to 25 (no exaggeration) lbs heavier. Until 'everyone' enforces it (whatever 'it' is), you will always have it. Beyond that, their success and recognition encourages them. Why wouldn't they do it?

My son is right sized now, and he has to cut a couple pounds each week, but it's not is terribly difficult. Is that okay or should he jump up and wrestle against kids that are naturally 10 lbs heavier?🤔 (That said, it's a bit late).

Just to be clear, I'm serious about the first paragraph and somewhat less about the second.

With the postseason entering its second phase this weekend, what are some matches you've seen leading up to regionals that could be considered the Match of the Year? I will be the first to admit, I haven't had a chance to watch as many matches as I'd like this year, but from what I've seen there are two that stand out far and wide...

    Shortlist (Through Sectionals)
Jesse Mendez vs. Zeke Seltzer 1/8 Brownsburg (IHSWCA Team State Class 4A Dual Championships) | ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ½ Jacob Johnson vs. Nate Johnson 1/29 Mooresville (IHSAA Sectional Championship Finals at Mooresville) | ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ½
As far as the Feud of the Year goes, there are a few who stand out due to weeks, months, or for some, years of build-up who could be on a collision course for a match at the state finals or through the rest of the tournament series.

    Shortlist
Brady Ison vs. Cheaney Schoeff - 2021's Feud of the Year. The two traded wins throughout the postseason last year with Ison scoring the final victory, but it was Schoeff who would advance to the state championship match to face Zeke Seltzer over Ison last year. Ison is 2-0 against Schoeff this year, will he be able to make it 3-0 this weekend at Mooresville? Luke Rioux vs. Jake Hockaday - Hockaday earned the first victory 7-2 earlier this year in the dual, but Rioux earned a huge upset victory winning 10-6 at the Sectional. This one could continue through the next three weekends. Who takes the victory at the regional? Ashton Jackson vs. Evan Dickey - Jackson just seems to have Dickey's number. He beat him in the state finals last year and earned a 6-2 decision victory this year. Will he be able to make the series 3-0? Matthew Koontz vs. Hayden Watson - 2020 132 State Semifinals, Koontz won 6-5. 2022 Team State Duals, Koontz won 5-4. With nearly identical resumes and identical state finishes, can Koontz score the shut out or will Watson finally turn the tide? Leighton Jones vs. Jacob Johnson - Evansville Semi-State heavyweight supremacy. Leighton won their only meeting in dominant fashion, but they met up once more over summer in an RTC grind session in what was a much more scrappy affair from Johnson. Mooresville this weekend could be interesting (or more of the same).
