PirateDad reacted to navy80 in Indiana's Most Dominant Big Man, EVER?
Is Mason Parris the most dominate BIG MAN ever? He is only a junior, but has been an unstoppable force. The only two 220 pounders who can likely hang with him this year are Clayton Scroggs (SQ as a soph, and 5th as a junior) and Gunner Larson (SQ as a freshman, 5th as a soph, and 2nd as a junior). Everyone else likely gets tech falled or pinned.
I think Mason surpasses former big men such as Dexter Larimore, Wesley Bernard, Fletcher Miller, Chris Kasten, Chico Adams, Adam Chalfant,
Elite Studs Indiana has produced include the following, (215/220/HWT)
Jake Obrien 3X state champ at 215lbs. Gelen Robinson 2X state champ at 215lbs, Anton Talamantes 2nd, 1stat 215lbs and 1st at 189lbs.
Gelen won state 7-2 and 9-3.
Talamantes lost state 2-4, won state 7-4 and by pin.
Obrien won state 9-6, 8-5, and 11-4
Obrien went on to fight in the UFC, Gelen will likely play in the NFL, and I am not sure about Talamantes.
As a freshman, Parris won the 182lb New Castle Semi-State with wins over
Kaiser, Ind. Ritter 31-7 W PIN
Steward, Cathedral 16-3 W 3-1
James Roncalli 44-1 W PIN
Morales, WEBO 39-5 W 7-3
STATE FINALS
Jake Kleimola, 34-7, Lake Central WIN 18-5 (Jake won state the next year)
Kyle Shaffer, 41-3, South Putnam WIN PIN (Kyle will place top 3 this year)
Chase Osborn, 39-0, Penn, LOST 10-11 (Osburn won state)
Gage Garpow, 39-5, Winamac, WON 11-10
I think some people, including myself who didn’t know much about Parris, thought he wrestled a weak schedule from a small school. He went on to finish 54 wins and 1 loss his freshman year. When he “upset” Conner James of Roncalli, is when the whole state took notice! Then, he lost by one point in the state semi finals to the eventual and undefeated state champion.
As a sophomore, Parris walked through semi state at 220! His wins were, Pin 0:36 seconds, PIN 1:33, Tech Fall against the guy who finished 6th, and Pin 0:21 seconds against the guy who finished 4th!
At the state finals, Nick Lee and Chad Red got all the attention, but a loaded 220 weight was just as good!
All four semi state champions were undefeated, one was a returning state champion, and a few nationally ranked kids in the weight.
Parris wins his first match against Yorktown’s Pier (34-13) by pin in 1:22. He beat a very tough and strong Dristin MCubbins from Monrovia (37-7) by fall at 3:08. Parris faced an undefeated Evan Ellis who was 44-0 at the time, and pinned him in 5:20. In the finals Parris met up with Gunner Larson from Avon who was 42-0 at the time, and won by major decision, 13-4.
By his dominant wins, is he the best big man Indiana has seen? And he still has one more year left. Thoughts?

PirateDad reacted to Y2CJ41 in 220 This year... Deepest Indiana Upper Weight Class ever?
Just an FYI, Kobe Woods was injured last year. He had shoulder surgery this spring/summer. I would have loved to see him at 100% last year in the state finals.

PirateDad reacted to bwfan in 100TH WIN
I think Chuck brings up a really good small school/big school point here. It's pretty obvious that we need to have classed forums for wrestling because of how different the sport is depending on the size of school you attend. No one from a big school can relate to the achievement of a class A wrestler reaching the 100 win milestone.
Or maybe just once, someone could read a post, and if they don't have a positive thing they can add just back away from the computer and don't throw in your two cents. Crap...that's what I just did. Guess I better add something positive. Nice job everyone who has achieved 100 wins. This posting stuff is hard. I'm going back on my two year hiatus from posting. By the way the class wrestling was firmly tongue in cheek.

I've been to state at least 18 times (paid every time) and I was nowhere near 100 wins.

I was VERY impressed with Mason Winner from Jay County. Not only pinned Waugh in the finals at 145, but was the only freshman to place at that weight. The rest of the place winners were juniors and seniors. Very impressive.

PirateDad reacted to TripleB in TripleB Out
Guys it's time for me to step back. Between my job, my family, traveling more w little B and his wrestling adventures, and coaching Madison's youth wreslting I can no longer keep up with the Evansville Semi State rankings.
I've tried to hold on for selfish reasons. Joe and I started SS rankings years ago for fun. Others jumped on and now I believe our rankings are top notch. It's my baby, I love it. But Im not doing the south justice anymore.
I've made so many great friends all over the state that's it been unreal. I've had people approach me at wrestling tournies, it's really really been a blast!
Some thanks in my way out:
Joe Caprino - we haven't always seen eye to eye (I'm pretty sure I'm the only board admin to be suspended!) but our passion and love for the sport has made us friends. I talk to him almost everyday. Joe thanks for letting me rep the Dirty South and letting be apart of the #800lbGorilla.
Mrs. TripleB: She had no clue what she was getting into with me and wreslting when she said yes. But she's always worked around it. If there's a hangout and I need a room for some quiet, she made sure my heathens steared clear. If I needed to go to some random wrestling tourney that Madison wasn't even wrestling in, she rarely put up a fight. I love her!
All the Eville supporters - you all were the keys to accurate rankings. I had guys in each regional always keeping me up on the happenings. 10 years ago there was teams you could never find info on, now I feel I've made connections to get all the info.
Mike Reiser, Nick Weisjahn: Man I love you guys, thanks for all your help and information. Hangouts were always a blast!
Everybody, it's been real. I've suckered Nick into finishing the year. And I got a guy lined up to takeover in the fall. Maybe Y2 can find me something else to do w IndianaMat. Maybe I can still do my Eville SS Preview Spectacular!
IndianaMat, Stay Classy My Friends!

They are working on upgrading their communication from the pony express. New technology should help get the word out.

They say it's a blind draw but every Connersville kid will get a bye or a forfeit the first round.

PirateDad reacted to dragonswrestling in When you make ISWA mad at ya!
I feel your pain. My daughter finally won her first state championship last year and was eagerly waiting to see her name in the (2016 ISWA Book). When we got it she seen the results from 2 years ago when she first started. Needless to say she was a disappointed, as was I, but that's it. We've raised her to understand that life is not fair and sometimes things don't go your way. She said, that's ok dad, next year I'm going to be a triple crowner, it'll be hard to mess that up three times. I was wowed by the way she overlooked it and moved on so quickly. I felt very proud in knowing she's learned at a very young age not to worry about things we can't control, and work towards the things we can. To think the ISWA did this intentionally never crossed our minds. The ISWA is comprised of mostly volunteers and people who GENUINIENLY care about wrestling. I called to let them know about what had happened and they were very apologetic and said they are working on fixing it in the online publication.

I'm not sure there is a better event over 4 days than the SB Duals. If I were coaching and had an elite athlete, this is where he would be.

PirateDad reacted to JMILL in When you make ISWA mad at ya!
seriously ?????
this thread is totally ridiculous.
I would say that I expect better from most of you but I have been reading posts from most of you for the past 3 or so years and have come to expect the stupidity that some of you have posted.....I know the lady very well that has put this magazine together for the past several years and she would NEVER (and I can't underline or bold that word enough) leave anyone out on purpose.
Look back at the numerous threads on this forum about posting results in error and mistakes made on the rankings submitted..................hey guess what, sometimes people (really nice people working for free) make honest mistakes. Get over it and move on. You all have great kids and they have accomplished great things so just be proud of those and know that everyone else knows what they have accomplished no matter if it accidentally gets left out of the ISWA book.
If you are looking for someone to pick on then move on to Joe for not coming down to #TheCounty to view the greatest dual with expert coaching moves that brought the score to favor the #Dogs........that's the real criminal in this whole thing !!!!

I believe this is another example of being unable to mutter a response due to a total processing failure to understand how yourself or anyone else could put together such a statement.

Gotta love the "I am a victim mentality". One reason I don't push youth tournaments that hard because some of the same people blindly attacking people and organizations are in the corner for some kid showing everyone how not to act. I have always found if you have a problem take it directly to them in a professional manner and not in a off handed passive aggressive way.

Hey 800lbs Gorilla Mama,
Did you just honestly refer to the ISWA and "Blood Money" in the same sentence sarcastically? Honestly couldn't tell. If you are doing without sarcasm I don't even think my brain could mutter a response due to a total processing failure to understand how yourself or anyone could put together such a statement...

To everyone out there who thinks the ISWA did this to you on purpose you're wrong. This was a plot by our reptilian overlords (AKA Obama) to eat your soul and enslave the human race.

I know it's a wrestling site..but being a 50+ year #CubFan is very similar to wrestling and what it teaches you. Perseverance, pride, coming back after tough losses and years....continual hope in the process knowing that #SomeDay would come eventually. So even if you aren't a #CubFan...today the W can stand for Wrestling too! Cubs...Wwwwoooo!
Carry on
