Sorry just seen this after posting in youth wrestling.
Here is my post from over there.

    -----------------------------------------------

Compromise over Boycott. Here is a solution. I challenge the ISWA Board to vote on this:

Any wrestler who is on any ISWA team going to National Middle Schools duals and/or Heartland duals should have an automatic exemption for one Freestyle qualifier per ISWA team event.
This makes sense if any freestyle qualifier is held on the same weekend as the ISWA dual team tournaments.
The wrestler parents are already supporting the ISWA by spending hundreds of dollars on the out of state tournaments.
If their kid is doing both, over a thousand dollars when counting all travel expenses.
Note that I stated exemptions not waivers.
I do not think little Johnny should get a waiver because he had a baseball game.
    This is all about wrestling.
I like freestyle way better than folkstyle, but during the month of April, that is the prime month to seek out top competition for the younger wrestlers who are not Cadets or Juniors. Do not penalize these kids because Freesyle and Greco States are in May.
Most of these kids on these teams do not know off seasons and wrestle year around. They are at the Academy or Club training Freestyle and Greco. They already are training all styles for years to be ready for Fargo when they become Cadets and Juniors. They are the future of Indiana wrestling.
Do not preach to the choir. We want the same thing. Making Indiana wrestling better and better.

    No change of heart here.
I try my best to listen to the sales pitch of the size class supporters but sorry no sale.
Please do not water down the Indiana State Championships, just as Indiana  is finally getting more respect every year.
I hate to be a downer but college coaches look at National tournaments more than any state tournament.

We will be getting a better gauge on that this year as well as we tighten up the RTC program.  Exact numbers and exact kids will eventually be compiled and tracked to see who, what, when, where, etc.  This data could be turned into useful information but will primarily be used to help with recruiting for Team Indiana trips and resource allocation.  Some sites clearly have higher turnouts than others but we are in the process of strengthening them all.  We are even leaning in the direction of an RTC Dual Series when the time comes to add another dimension to Indiana's wrestling culture.

More and more clubs and schools are interested in becoming a ISWA/USAW Regional Training Center, which is fantastic.  As long as we understand they are only for Freestyle and Greco, Schoolboy and up, with USAW membership - it's almost the more the merrier.  We do not, however, want to sacrifice quality for quantity.  We look to ensure each RTC is qualified, on the same page regarding our overall development, and we help supply them with the tools they need to make their RTC and school program better.  The results may be both instant and gradual, but there will be gains.  We are continuing to work with current and future sights to ensure we have locations set up for each region for our athletes.

In regards to attendance?  I can imagine statewide that there are a contingent of wrestlers who go to an academy practice rather than an RTC.  So on the front end, yes, but not as many as one may think.  On the back end, I believe academies are slowly making the RTCs stronger because they are slowly helping Indiana athletes get better so it balances out to say the least.  Academies fill a gap by offering year-round training and competition opportunities whereas RTCs, and the majority of school programs, are seasonal.  In our case the wrestlers who come to practice rather than go to an RTC are because of their relationship or agenda with the coaching staff, not the competition.  We may be a little thin but typically kids go to RTCs, especially the big ones, for the competition and guest clinician(s).  One really doesn't go wrong with either.

One of the goals of the RTCs is to definitely help the advancement of the international styles in the state, but hopefully it's us as coaches who eventually become the backbone of it.  As the official liaisons between the athlete and sport, coaches have the most influence over selling, planting, watering or even enforcing the dream. Still, the RTCs are increasingly becoming better designed to provide that platform if needed.  Many of our Indiana kids truly do want to get better and take a leap (or tip-toe) of faith into this Freestyle and Greco thing, but just don't have the opportunity to get after it.  The RTC does help fill THAT gap.  With that said, it is important to impress the need to attend as many as we can, learn as much as we can, and train, compete and perform as much as we can.  It's an Olympic year so the spirit will definitely be in the air. Let this be the year we open our senses up to the alchemy, and the ISWA/USAW Regional Training Centers are a vital ingredient.

    Joe,

If we went to class wrestling, would it be fair to  the small school champions of the past,  the 1A giants of Indiana folklore,  the great Indiana 1A legends who were able to beat the odds.   You know those guys,  the 1a state placers and champions made of the same fabric as Hickory High and the same spirit as "Rudy".   They're the guys  whose classic framed picture you see hanging on the walls in the hallowed hallways of the small school you see in rural Americana.    Its the black and white picture of the young "David who slayed Goliath",  with a wrestler in a polyester singlet wearing tights posing in a stiff wrestling stance.  It has the block lettering typed above it "1978 State, 3rd place".   He's the guy all the young wrestlers at the school someday hope to be and have their state placing picture next to.

But if we went to class wrestling,   the above mentioned hallway would be cluttered and littered with new color pictures of the new entitled generation of young average wrestlers.   These pictures would be more colorful and jazzed up and catch the eye of the student body walking down the hallway.    While our older champions picture,  the one with real moxie, would be polluted by the apathy and entitlement of this millennial generation.  His picture would have to be moved to the far corner of the hallway, just like the essence of true American exceptionalism is   also moved to the corner,  so we can make room for the wave of the ribbon spoiled new generation of wrestlers.    Probably the administration wants to make another hallway to display the ribbons of the 5th place JV finishers or display the 4ft tall 3rd place trophy that is so common place.
Maybe we would put a Roger Maris style asterisk by the new pictures of the flood of watered down state placers of class wrestling.      It should say *** Class Wrestling State Placer, but wouldn't have placed when Indiana had the greatest tournament in the country".

If one class was good enough for my Uncle Billy or my cousin Joe,   one class should be good enough for the current ribbon generation.   You know what they say "if isn't Broke, then don't break it".   This is our culture our heritage, the one class.   Why move the cheese and upset the ribbon cart.  If other states want to water down their states with class wrestling and waste time with silly wrestle backs, then let them drink their own poison and litter their hallways with pictures of average wrestlers adorned with shiny metals and pretty ribbons.

When I drink from the bar, it better not be watered down.

I've been around this sport for a long time and I've never seen Banker's Life have that kind of atmosphere - it was just awesome to be a part of it. I was "Team Lee" before the match and despite the outcome, I'm still "Team Lee" - he's an outstanding technical wrestler and is just pure class. He now has 2 losses - Micic & Red - the simple fact that he could walk into the room and choose what weight he wants to wrestle and those are where he chose to go says all that needs to be said about Nick Lee - he knew the risks and rewards and he chose to go after it - I'd take that kind of fight in the wrestling room every time. This fine young man will continue to do great things - us fans are the lucky ones along for the ride.

Chad Red has been wowing us for four years - again - us fans were the lucky ones. I've been lucky enough to witness the careers of 5 out of 9 4xers - becoming a 4 x state champion is not a fluke - you earn that one match at a time. Congrats to Chad Red - you've joined an elite list. Good luck in your NCAA wrestling career.

Am I the only one already planning my trip to the Big10 Championships for a rematch?!?

You can re-watch the match as track has it as a video on its homepage....Lee was on his back for may 1 second?  Red was on his back for maybe 3 seconds?

Great match,,,Lee got caught out of position and Red capitalized.  Lee shouldn't have picked bottom in the third....exciting match.  Hope they meet again in college

Most, if not all top tier states have greater population.

Those states always  produce more college AA's then us and that will result in better future coaches when the AA's return home to work with greater number of athletes.

GOOD NEWS! - We will have a parade of teams before the event.  Coaches meeting will be at 8:30 - during that time we will be lining up kids for the parade of teams.  Once coaches meeting is over (around 8:40) we will start parade of states.  Should be fun for the kids and parents.  If you have a school flag or sign you would like to carry please bring with you.

Dude, you forgot something..#PainTrain...you're welcome! I can see the veins popping outta your forehead. Relax, Snyder seems to have this.

Anyway, the #PainTrain seems to be fueled by hate (Miami Hurricanes of IN wrestling..discuss), so not going there as they seem to have enough to thrive on #Congrats on #TeamState. I commend the coach for shutting down a #hater with a #micdrop even before any other posts were entered! I wonder how many other top program coaches would be so quick to post a list of their transfers?? So #Kudos.

Congratulations to Lowell's Drew Hughes on his verbal commitment to the Spartans of Michigan State. Drew has worked very hard since the age of 5 to be one of the best in the country, he's certainly done that. Now he joins New Head Coach Roger Chandler next year to start a new chapter in Michigan State Wrestling.

Great job, Drew! You a have a wonderful future ahead of you.

Add in Jose Escobedo at 119, who avenged his loss to Clay Leek from this year to go on to win a state championship the next year, and Griffith had a solid 1-2-3-4 punch too. Probably the two best 1-2-3-4 punches in Indiana history and they happened in the same year.

It's definitely fun reliving the old days! It's also crazy to notice how much wrestling has evolved over the past 10+ years. This was my senior year and these guys consistently put a whoopin on me, but this wrestling is extremely sloppy compared to today's wrestling. It makes me not want to look back at videos from my high school wrestling days, cause those must be reallllly bad hahaha

takedownartist got a reaction from Coach Hull in ISWA teams selection question....
First I would like to state the ISWA is doing a lot of great things and has great leadership.
I happened to agree completely with the qualification process for Freestyle/Greco State.

Even if you dislike freestyle/Greco, your wrestler needs to know when a throw is coming (to defend) even if he or she never offensively attempts a throw. (see over under throws countered beautifully with a Metzger)

    Anyways back to question.
Why does the older kids like Cadet/Juniors earn a spot based on result in Freestyle State and Greco State for Indiana traveling teams to Fargo and other places and the Schoolboy/Novice age kids have a wrestle off type tournament with no coaches allowed?
I am pretty old but when I was on the traveling team back in the ancient days, we qualified by placement at ISWA state.
Our Indiana youth traveling team included Lance Ellis, who should be on the short list of best thrower ever from Indiana. The kids in his weight class at out of state tournaments had no idea about our throwing machine thanks to the lack of the interwebs.
