Mullets are a common obstacle for paper airplanes at wrestling tournaments.

I don't know man.  I've seen a few nose dive less than 4 rows later into the back of a mullet of a drunk Jay County fan on more than 1 occasion.  Said drunk mullet Jay County fan was too incoherent to even notice.

Then again, it only takes 1 to gently glide from the upper deck all the way across the mats into the opposing seats of glowing green of Cathedral.

Definitely not you. MD is notorious for tough draws. But, tough draws come with great matches! I am not surprised about the 138 draw though, possible Mendez vs Boarman semi final will bring fireworks!

It's punishment for the paper airplanes the Mater Dei kids throw at State every year.  Even though some are constructed well enough to make it from one side of the arena to the other.

Is it me or does MD seemed cursed with these bad draws? Hayhurst vs Watson in semi state, Boarman being on the same side as Mendez, Egli makes a statement by pinning Coy and draws into returning champ Cottey, Ross possibly meeting Lemley in the second round, Parkinson drawing Walker in the first round last year, and the list goes on.... If I’m MD I’m razing the gymnasium to see if there’s a goat buried under the gym floor!

You wrestle who’s out in front of you.
Many of these wrestlers haven’t wrestled some of their opponents prior to this tournament. So who’s to say one is better than the other?
So once again, wrestle who is in front of you and may the best man win.

    Pretty damn impressive.
as I noted, the ones that they didn’t have in the final 4, they were not overlooked in the breakdowns. And considering this is quite possibly the toughest SS, makes it all more impressive.

Here is a list of each team with 5 or more qualifiers and the # of each placement.  This simply lists the placements of the qualifiers and does not factor in rankings or potential placements at State, so its not meant to give a complete picture or prediction of who will win the team race.  However #'s and high SS placements are a good start.

Well said and this is what I was implying in my earlier comments. While it may look bad in the coach to some, he has the responsibility to ensure his young man/woman is examined and ensured by medical staff mat side that he is indeed 100% a full go.

    Recap:
what an amazing article and even better SS.
106- hit 3/4 picks. That was because Krueger(CE) showed up and avenged that earlier loss to LaRocca
The Sperren pick was locked in

    113-hit 3/4 once again
But it’s not without saying that they warned us to keep an eye on Butler(Whiteland). He showed up and punched his ticket with a win over a tough Columbus East Lykins
BBB guarantee held firm as his west side boys brought another SS win.

    120-yep once again it’s 3/4
Senior Haug(ForrestP) came in overlooked and punched his ticket.
Sorry BBB, you lost the book here as Gilbert takes the title.

    126-ooops only 50% here
But this class was tough and y’all did tell us that Bechert(FR) and Tharpe(CG) shouldnt he overlooked.

    132-100%
while not in order, still impressive. Montgomery(BB) is always battle tested and is very dangerous. Good thing Donnie Baker showed up to save the Sperren lock and keep y’all at 💯

138-SOLID. All picks and in order of finish was the first of the day.

145- ok now you’re showing off as once AGAIN- PERFECTION.

152-so close as y’all hit 3/4 here. Buuuut, it’s noted to not sleep on the sectional and regional Champ Farmer. He didn’t disappoint and he punched his ticket with a win over the always tough guys from Columbus East(Holt)

    160-3/4 here
Emerine(FC) showed up to the party and takes out the always tough Owen Bryant to punch his ticket  Congrats young man

170-while not in placement order, y’all hit all 4 placers right. So close to almost hitting your 3rd Ace of the day

182-ouch 50% here. But y’all did leave it open by saying that after Sollars and Buchanan any of the other could make that trip. Kudos to Schroeder(Southridge) and Pugilese(TriW) for joking the clear favorites of this weight class.

195-here y’all hit your 3rd Ace of the day. All picks and placements spot on

    220-50% here
the other half of the Farmer brothers Kelton(EvvMem) comes to play. And  I don’t think many would’ve seen undefeated Huggins(Re) getting stuck, But kudos to Skaggs(Fr) for putting his hard work in and punching his ticket.
    The Sperren lock stood firm

285-4/4 on the picks, just a tad off on the placement to keep y’all away from that 4th Ace of the day.
Leighton Jones(BB) left VERY LITTLE doubt of that Sperren lock

overall- very impressive for such a tough Semi State
hitting on 80% of the picks and all the Sperren locks stood firm.

Could it be that maybe his coaches were concerned for him. It’s not like there’s ever been an athlete that got hurt but yet still tries to carry on. From the safety standpoint, it could’ve been the right decision to halt him until he could be evaluated.

A slam is a judgement call.,  The big part of what the rule states is that when someone picks the other person up they are responsible for their safe return to the mat.  The safe return is purely the responsibility of the offensive wrestler, and there is no requirement for the defender to protect himself.  Years ago there was the criteria that the offensive wrestler had to hit a knee first, but that was discarded a long time ago.  The slam is a needed call in wrestling because it keeps someone from intentionally drilling someone to win a match, or to make it harder for the opponent to compete.  The thing that makes it bad is that whether a kid can continue competing, or not, is dependent on a decision that has to be made in 2:00 minutes of "recovery time".  The only person the coach is responsible to is his wrestler.  If he thinks that the slam has impaired his wrestlers ability to possibly win the match then his best decision is to not continue.  The ability to continue, or not, only has to do with what is going on in that match and has nothing to do with the rest of the tournament.  Postulating if the wrestler may be able to compete later, or not, has no (and should not have any) bearing on the decision at that moment.  The wrestlers ability to wrestle in matches later in a tournament only indicates that he was able to continue with more recovery time, but proves nothing as to the severity (or lack of severity) at the time the match was ended due to disqualification.  I would also add that I have almost never seen a match where to person is DQed for a slam and his coaches, fans, and family were happy.
