Y2CJ41
Looks like some bad news to the east of us as Cleveland State is dropping their wrestling program after next year. They have two Indiana natives on their roster in Whitko's Chas Busz and Wayne's Kanez Omar. They are also set to host NCAAs in 2018 in Cleveland. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/03/cleveland_state_university_will_no_longer_fund_wrestling_but_will_add_lacrosse.html
TripleB
Surely NCAA will pull out if there's no host club.
grecoref
They will just change the host school to Kent State. After what the NCAA Committee did to Ian Miller I would tell them to take a hike....or something like that. infowrestling and loscoz
leggin89
The NCAA has already changed the host to the Mid Atlantic Conference, I believe.
KarlHungus
Dang, thought this might make a move to Indy possible.....oh wait, never mind. Galagore
KoontzDaddy
So the AD played and coached lacrosse. I'm sure the decision to ax wrestling and ad lacrosse was thoroughly thought through with no bias. Insert sarcasm face.
MattM
So the AD played and coached lacrosse. I'm sure the decision to ax wrestling and ad lacrosse was thoroughly thought through with no bias. Insert sarcasm face. While he was the AD at Butler he also pushed to begin a Lacrosse program. Butler canceled it the year after he left the school. Some people are saying that even though lacrosse only a small following in Ohio that Parry was able to sell this idea to the school's board of trustees by ensuring them that it will attract more wealthy donors and prep school applicants than what wrestling currently has. leggin89
Dang, thought this might make a move to Indy possible.....oh wait, never mind. At Division I's there was actually some talk between some people that coming to Indy could occur soon. Not sure how that will work out now based on the political uproar, but some at the NCAA seemed to like the idea. Wonder why? It definitely could not be that it is .9 miles from the headquarters to Bankers Life and .7 miles to Lucas Oil! Just think how amazing having NCAA's with the Basketball Final Four setup!!! MattM
Their is a voting poll with this article on the Cleveland.com website. The results of the poll by itself will not be enough sway the AD's opinion, but it may help generate more discussion in the media about the situation. http://www.cleveland.com/sports/college/index.ssf/2015/04/should_cleveland_state_cut_wre.html#incart_2box
MattM
Great interview with the Cleveland State AD by Jason Bryant. It really shows, in the ADs own words, some of the poor thought process that went into this decision. http://www.mattalkonline.com/podcast/short-time/st156-cleveland-state-athletic-director-john-parry-talks-about-the-future-discontinuation-of-wrestling/
JasonBryant
The NCAA has already changed the host to the Mid Atlantic Conference, I believe. Host was always the Mid-American Conference. NCAA hasn't changed anything.
PatParham
Pretty cool to see Jason Bryant post on Indiana Mat. It goes to show that this site offers impressive wrestling coverage AND that Indiana is becoming an important place on the wrestling map.
JasonBryant
Indiana's always been an important place in wrestling. Been lurking on the site for years and remember its earliest iterations. PatParham
