Add Kameron Hazlette, blitzed through a loaded 220lb weight class (only match to go the distance was against Clark 4-2). Will be back next year to defend.

There are 3 level to this:
- kid is in school early (Graduate at 17)
- kid is in school in the optimal grade (Graduate at 18)
- kid is in school and can not repeat grade and compete (hold-back) (Graduate at 19)
There are about 10 different variables that go into parents holding their kids back. Some parents weight variables higher than others! There is no right answer, but simply what is BEST for the kid!
Every situation is different!
In my situation, my son was put in school too early (category 1 on this list). In the 2nd grade he was doing poorly on the educational pillars (Math and Reading). So after winter break, we decided for him to be put back in the 1st grade putting him, using my verbiage, in the optimal grade. Optimal may not be the best term to use in this situation, just what i came up with.
Again, every situation is different. As a parent who has worked in schools for over the last 24 years as a coach and/or staff member, I see parents (especially males) putting their kids in school later more than in the past.
Best wishes to all!

Indiana is slowly turning into Ohio in this matter. And I understand the rules of 19 and under but I have a Junior that could be held back twice and still meet that rule. Does that mean I should? He has kids who started in his grade now one or even two grades below him. That’s wild! And there’s no denying it will or does pay off in MS and HS but doesn’t always pay off in the off season or college. It’s just a weird approach to life. To each their own.

My son will be 17 his entire Senior year. We considered a hold back, but ultimately went ahead and sent him into high school anyway. He's currently a 14 year old freshman with a 22-11 record, Sectional Champ and Regional Runner-Up. Holding him back would have gained some competitive edge going into next season for sure. But we considered his maturity and intelligence and realized that holding him back would only stall his progress. We pushed him head first into the fire, and he is gaining valuable life lessons because of it. The adversity he is experiencing and overcoming will only help him in life after high school.

I will never understand the fear some parents have for their kids to compete vs kids their own age.

Andrew Howe was next level good, lost his freshman year under the lights to Reece Humphrey. Then beat a returning champ the next year in Walpole. He probably score more points combined then anyone in the state finals history. A lot of 20 pointers

"Fake State" is not how I would describe it. I see this as a way to grow the sport. Kids will wrestle only kids in their grade and their weight. This might be different from ISWA state where kids are grouped by their age and weight. It's promoting more wrestling which is always a good thing.

Merritt is tough and can wrestle with anyone. He did reverse Goin to his back from the announcers table it didn't look like it would be a fall. Sam didn't panic, Merritt went down Sam cut him took him down and got the fall. Again, I think Andre is dangerous and will be in the mix for a medal.

Lol a reversal and three backs, the “home run” attempt just about hit. Merritt is a dangerous wrestler than can put anyone away. It’s not everyday where a IN kid puts Goin to his back and keeps him there. Sorry to hurt your feelings @Barn Burner, seperated shoulder or not he still got put to his back🤷🏻♂️. Sorry I should’ve added kudos to him for fighting off and managing to score points after I guess?

Outstanding write-up. Thank you for this! I think Arberry (138 Warren Central) will turns some heads. He seems to get better every match and is gaining the confidence needed to be one of the best.

Probably not, Bahl, Hawkins and Goodwin not wrestling. With those 3 , yes they would, they still could do it without them.

Buddy, I don't care (that much). I was asking as a big fan of his and his family. Obviously I know he is a great kid and has an awesome family. I will not comment further as I have found out the reason. I respect him and even respect his family more. But please don't be calling me buddy I don't even know you therefore I am not your buddy. Best of luck Hawkins family and I only wish the best for Landon. Hope I get to see him wrestle soon.

Brandon Johnson of Lawrence North at 220 pounds pinned Greg Johnson of Warren Central last night. He’s already beat Degroat of Connersville 8-0 so far this year as well.
