  1. Yup, and I'm guessing you can PM him if you want to know more about him.
  2. In last several years we've hit up the BW3 during the lunch break. Guess its been enough years in a row cause the waitress rememberd me last year. As mentioned above Scotty's is a great place. Scott has done a great job since the infancy of his place at Ball State. Rock Bottom always is worth the trip too. But, with anyplace seating is at a premium and you're usually rushing to get back before they open the flood gates.
  3. Suite streak was on live support but we saved it. We got connected with the new person in charge of the suite and obtained some tickets this week. ;D I think we need to hear some Team State streaks too. I have to admit I haven't attended regularly, but the times I have been it was a unique experiance that I highly enjoyed. It opens your eyes to more of what the sport can be.

  5. I would assume the IHSAA and ISWCA would love to find way to get more interst in attending the state finals and more excitment out of the one that are present. What changes would you suggest to helping this out. that is aside from free snow cones for all. I know someone said bring back the organ. I alway thought it would be nice to have up on the jumbotron the names and school of the wrestlers on each mat in the color they were. Not sure if a quick computer program would do the trick and just click on the next preloaded match to repalce the old one. Obviously, running an active score on the screen would be much more to ask for but it would at least be nice to know who is wrestling where without having to break out the binoculars to see the score board numbers. I think the more help you give fans into knowing what is happing the more they will get into the experiance.
  6. They are team champs based on the only criteria available at the time. That doesn't mean that that system was the best way to determine a team champion. It more of an issue of trying to figure out the best way to determine should be the criteria that constitutes being the Team Championship. Clearly a team vs. team dual meet situation is a more well rounded way of showing the best team compared to an individual tournament where the whole team is not represented and when multiple other individuals are also factors. Yes, in some years the individual tournament point system does get it right. But the proof this seems to be in the fact that in many years the team that won the Coaches Trophy didn't even make it to the finals of team state. But, obviously the IHSAA stance seems to be that the individual tournament may be the easier functioning system to go about determine the Team Champion even if it is not quite the best way of doing it. As, mentioned above if they are going to go back to the old way I'd at least like to see them add each round of the tournaments series points together thus allowing the entire teams point to be factored. Maybe not the prefect system but seems a little better than just adding the points earned by a few members. If they want to develop a class system around those point then I guess that is an option too. I still say their is something special and different about the feeling and atmosphere of a team state competition that you just don't get at individual state. Regardless of it we loose the event or not, it is worth attending this year just to see what happens when everyone on the team is looked at as a major roll player win or lose and not just the top athletes. FYI, yes I was actually saying it would be fair and helpful for development if we had a 3 class team state system way before the talk of removing the team event.
  7. Same situation and same explanation about boys participating in gymnastics.
  8. Thank you for what you have done for this sport and so many young men Coach Friedt. Your legacy will no doubt live on through their lives. I do not know Coach Friedt personally, however, any family that was willing to allowed him the time to help guide so many young men deserves our thoughts and sympathy at this time.
  9. Someplace in the northwest US a few years back there was a state champ or state finalists from the previous year that did almost the exact same thing. His next year he had a girl the first round of state and forfeited the match knowing he would have to wrestleback for placement instead of having a shot at a state title.
  10. At the very lease they should add the scores from sectionals through state for each team. While this also has its kinks it at least accounts for the scores of the entire team not just those studs who made it to the state finals. I would think this system would show the top team match up with the squads that end up with a large semi-state individual showing more than just have a few studs make the final rounds of state.
  11. Actually that closed down. Can't recall for sure but I believe a Dunkin Donuts in now in that location. No clue on their WiFi capabilities. Yeah they should let you have your iPad in. I have brought in my laptop into Conseco several times before.
  12. Thus, my earlier tongue in cheek post (via Harry Potter reference). You can find previous threads regarding team state issue further down the board. I agree. The other teams listed here have the largest man power to score high. But, if those teams don't have several high placers, and Indian Creek get a few champs and high placers they have a great chance to win it.
  13. Sounds good in theory but I can see a few issues possibly: 1. Unless you are a takedown monster you'll be moving out of the circle quickly as to not give up an additional point. 2.It's not to hard to sprawl just enough to be out of that small center area and prevent a TD that legitimately began there from finishing there. 3. It would allow someone who actually started a takedown near the edge of the mat but who finishes in the center to get the bonus point. Or same issue if someone same situation if someone lifted and carried their opponent back to the center. So in essence it may not actually keep people wrestling in the center of the mat, as much as, reward people who happen to find their way back there in one way or another. I do like the idea of the college out of bounds rule though to help a little more with people riding the line. I'm even in favor of the step out rule they have in freestyle if its modified to allow one or two warnings first to ward of any accidental step outs that may occur during the process or actual legit wrestling.
  14. Don't speak of "that which shall not be named!" Talk of it may anger the powers that be into disliking the team tournament. : But, yeah a few teams have the individual power needed to have a legit shot of garnering the points needed to win "that which shall not be named."
  15. They actually have a few WiFi feeds, but most are protected. I want to say in previous years I could pick up a faint open signal, but that may be because I was sitting right below the special Legends Area.
  16. I think its hillarious that J Rob now also offers a basketball and hockey camp, as well. While I'm sure he brings in top notch basketball guys I wonder if the campers know they are getting training thats framwork was designed out of the mind of a wrestling coach. Funny they have to go to what began as a wrestling camp to improve their basketball skills.
  17. By not commenting I neither confirm nor deny my agreement with his statment. My soul just feels better that way. ;D By the way here is a related article about this issue http://www.news-sentinel.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110216/NEWS/302169996
  18. I'd like to know if they all get to the finals will the results of the first match have a greater effect on: the winners brother to help get him more hyped to double up. or the losers brother to motivating him to get revenge. All I know is if this does go down its going to be a very rare, memorable, and interesting occurrence regardless of the outcome. However, both weights do have at least one solid semi-final spoiler if these brothers are not careful.
  19. I would guess that most people who didn't win their own semi-state would have strong chance of facing 3 semi-state champions in order to win state. A better questions would be how many wrestler facing 3 former state finalist or 3 state champions on their way to a win state. That may be a very smaller list.
  20. Their is a difference between being appropriately dressed, under dressed, or even over dressed for the occasion. To me the goal is to look presentable and dress respectfully because the occasion warrants it. In some ways it would be nice if some of the fans who are worried about appearance also dressed respectfully since some strongly believe the occasion warrants it. However, in the end the focus and attention of the crowd should not be drawn away from the athletes because of how under dressed you are or how over dressed you are trying to be.
  21. Clearly the one this really Original Gangsters belongs too. http://killmydaynow.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/FunnyandStrangePeopleShoppinginWalMart189.jpg[/img]
  22. You can wrestle at the weight you are entered or bump up one weight class. I would assume one of the wrestlers in this case was fine based on being able to stay at the weight entered or bump up to the next weight. The other however probably was entered in a way that did not allow him to wrestle in the weight class he did. Basically he probably wrestled below the entered minimum sectional weight or two weights higher than the entered weight.
  23. I'd say more than likely the school AD staff noticed the issue and were obligated to report it. Or possibly someone at the IHSAA notice. That is if they actually look over the forms prior to the state finals to try and avoid any major issue that would be hard and controversial to fix after the events.
  24. I knew to be present when we picked out our first coach ever since I skipped my wife's (then gf) 21st birthday to be at state for one our our wrestlers in 2002. I did try to show her why I go by having her attend the 2005 state finals with Escobedo and Coughlin win 4, but that didn't seem to do the trick.
