Would a wrestler that was not affiliated with a High School team be eligible to participate in Frosh/Soph state?

    Yes.

Does the actual state tournament cost money if the wrestler is already qualified?

Yes, the wrestler will pay for the tournament at the door.

When is the last chance qualifier? Is this it? Please let me know.    Thank you? Also where do you have to place to be able to make state?   Any help would be appreciated.

Last chance is at Indy Nationals. You have to place in the top 12 to qualify for the state tournament.

Who was that and from what schools ?

    Bradbury Portage vs Birge Frankfort

Birge was the returning state Champ, Bradbury was going to War with Alex Ramos every week. Bradbury lost to Ramos beat him for a regional title, setting up the match. Bradbury got the W, then went on to continue his rivalry to Ramos losing to him Under the lights.

Ha! I suppose when you have that many quality wrestlers in a one day event it's probably to be expected. There aren't a lot of lot events where you son or daughter can run into a kid from New York or Florida (which is great for the tournament, less so for your son).

It is grown so much (and COVID) that they are making it a 2 day tournament...  Hopefully for the sake of everyone (tournament admin included) it is quicker this year!

  4. Hello:

Portage is excited to be hosting the Indiana Frosh-Soph North Qualifier. We hope that all will follow the below rules for the event.

    Frosh/Soph State Qualifier:

    February 14th, 2021

    COVID-19 Protocol & Procedures

Schools attending will only be allowed 3 coaches for the event.  Also, each athlete will be allowed to designate two attendees for the event. The attendees can only be the parents of the wrestler participating in the tournament. The Coach of each school attending needs to designate the person(s) attending via email by Friday February 12th, 2021. (andrew.bradbury@portage.k12.in.us)

All attendees MUST wear face masks. Athletes will be exempt from this when they are warming-up or competing.

If you are not feeling well, experiencing symptoms or may be at a higher risk for getting very sick, we recommend you stay home.

Each person entering the event will be subject to a screening for COVID-19 symptoms.

In order to encourage social distancing there will be extremely limited seating, it is highly recommended that spectators bring their own "camp" chairs for seating.

Spectators from different households must always be seated 6’ away from each other.

A designated monitor will be assigned to ensure social distancing and mask wearing throughout the tournament.

There will be no physical interaction with the referee. The referee will maintain 6’ distance as much as possible. Handshaking and normal match procedures such as raising an athlete's hand will be eliminated from this tournament.

Also surprised Roberson was not going for a Pin they had to know they lost criteria on Cathedral having won more wins on the meet. Only chance was for him to get a pin.  CP seemed to have thought they won on criteria?

The only thought that I had regarding not having Roberson get the fall was that possibly (and I do not know what the coaches might have been thinking by any means) the coaches thought that the Coaches Misconduct was an Unsportsmanlike Conduct on Seltzer when he questioned a call early in the match as that is the first criterion.  But because it was a Coaches Misconduct that was called, it obviously does not go to that criterion.

ART. 2 . . . In dual-meet competition, if teams have identical scores, the following team tie-breaking system shall be used to determine the winner. a. The team whose opposing wrestlers or team personnel has been penalized the greater number of team points for flagrant or unsportsmanlike conduct shall be declared the winner

  6. Here is another answer:

Basically any event that is streamed by Mark Durham is on the list.  This includes the Hurrle, Mater Dei Holiday Classic, Indy Nationals, Frosh-Soph (discussions of the qualifiers as well), as well as UIndy streaming the Midwest Classic, DIII Regionals, each Semi State, and State.

To give you an idea of last years prices:

    Hurrle - $5/sub

    Mater Dei $10

    Indy Nationals $10

    Frosh-Soph $15

    Midwest Classic $20

    DIII Regionals $20

State Series $20 (but do not be surprised for this to increase this year due to likely low attendance at BLFH and each of the SS sites.)

That is $100 in just streaming fees for this year (and that is just what Mark Durham and his posse is likely to bring to you).

ISWA has also been added to the list with each of the Folk/Free/Greco events for this year.

IHSWCA Team State Duals is also on the list.

Also, any USAW event that is streamed on TW is available.

Portage did go to E-learning until Thanksgiving and they have been consistent in over reacting to covid. Their school colors are red like ours, but they seem to be more blue during the pandemic.

This post seems to have aged well...

Just waiting for my book to come, what advice do any of you have for a guy that has been around for a long time, but never ref'ed  a match? I love this sport, and think that I have learned a lot, and just want to give back to what this sport has given me and my family.

Get ahold of @cbarnett. He can give you a local association to join. That association will likely pair you with a more senior official for you to shadow and help you with any of your questions. Good luck and have fun!

2009 - Anthony Quiroz -152lbs took second at state with a record of 37-12,  75.5% winning percentage. I don’t know if that’s the worst. Must have been a heck of a run for him though.

I believe that 6 of those losses that he had were to Conference (dual and tournament), Sectional, Regional, Semi-State, State foe Sean McMurray of Portage.

Wondering if people that can’t make the trip to Mater Dei can watch the matches live somewhere or at least the finals...

Well...it was streamed last year using TrackCast, and the same guy is running it, I am guessing it will be streamed again.
