Spoke w/ some Evansville peeps yesterday and Evansville is buzzing. The anticipation is that there will be a crazy amount of walk ups. Wrestling is massive in Evansville and the Southwest part of the state. Evansville is 2 hrs and 45 min from Indy, Mt Vernon is over 3 hours, i'm guessing most don't make that drive unless there's a personal connection to state.
I think it's not crazy to say 2-3k fans in that area that don't normally make the the drive will attend this year.

boilergrappler reacted to Y2CJ41 in Seeding Shenanigans
The only thing that is 100% true is if coaches continue to manipulate the system the IHSAA will continue to make it difficult to get changes made. The simple fact is wrestling coaches act like idiots and force the IHSAA to use manpower and time to address petty issues instead of doing real work. See the recent cowboy hat issue that happened at Girls State as a perfect example.
We are the ONLY ones with any seeding and now it appears coaches want to pull shenanigans with it.
It's too bad our coaches want to continue to push the envelope to see how much they can get away with.

We are very proud of our new facility (2021). It is on the second floor directly above several locker rooms, training room, and weight room. Huge storage room on the end capable of holding about 8 mats. Currently also houses coaches office, mop sink, meeting area and lockers. A few cardio pieces, small track, benches, timers, incredible sound system. Curtains to divide youth practices. Basically four full size mats. HVAC system is on BMS allowing detailed control of room temp, timing etc. Lots of natural light. We could not be happier given our school size. -

Mom and Dad's living-room was a pretty good one back in the 90's 😎

Sounds like this where Semi State should have held, not the gymnasium.

Cowbells and glitter aren't exactly necessary at either event. In the end no one will remember if glitter or cowbells were there, but they'll remember a parent causing a distraction and getting booted from the event. There are battles to fight, these aren't ones that would be high on my priority list. To be honest a coach focusing on cowbells or glitter is wasting time and not getting their kids properly prepared for a big event. People seem too worried about fighting these pointless battles and having the focus be on them instead of the kids.

Hard to think of State and Southern IN wrestling and not think of what Harmon has accomplished at Castle.

No one is going to say the Anderson Highland plaid that Eppert and Bennett wore? 😄
Didn't Indian Creek have a cool bow tie singlet around the same time?

That was Jared Dunn from Princeton. Don't forget he pulled magic out of a hat the very next round with another headlock when he was down 11-0 to punch his ticket.

Chad Ruggeri locking up some double overs and decking Dexter Lamimore for a pin and the state title was impressive.
Daniel Young and Gavin McGinley were having a pretty intense back and forth battle all the way into the 3rd of the state final. McGinley put Young on his back and was close to a pin. Then Young got out, hit a reversal straight into a cradle and got the fall. The crowd was way into that match.

Alex Johnson from MD. Kid had the meanest headlock I have ever seen

Chris Wildeman over Richie Diggs (sp?) for the state championship, Craig Weinzapfel had Alex Tsirtsis plastered to the mat but the ref wouldn't call it. Not a pin but when Brandon Cox had Josh Crick on his back in the 1994 Sectional Championship match the roof came off of the gym at MD. That single moment is the loudest I have ever heard that place, Cox won the match due to that move but did not get the pin. Long and interesting story on that one but maybe for another time.

I was mat side this past weekend. Witnessed a coach tell his kid he needed his inhaler. The kids response was, What???? The coach just threw the inhaler on the mat. Poor kid didn’t realize he was having an asthma attack. 🙃

Wow - this thread certainly took a turn lol.
I don't have a dog in this fight - but I am willing to bet someone within the WC wrestling program reads and knows about this site. Not that we are owed anything - but an explanation for their departure would go a long way for their "reputation" amongst the wrestling community.
Maybe those involved do not care what the outside perception is - and I wasn't in attendance for the 4A duals - so I only know what I have read. And that is that WC chose to leave, while having wrestlers able to participate, without word or messaging to those in charge??

As a westsider the recruiting thing just makes me laugh when I speak to friends from up North. One thing that has helped keep Southern IN wrestling and yes also MD wrestling better is pretty simple: MCW Club. That's a simple fact!
