    ?????

    I assume you mean a scaled up Davison or a scaled down Parris?

    I assume you wouldn't want Davison to have to wrestle someone who is maybe 25 pounds heavier, a lot stronger, perhaps just as quick, and at this point a more accomplished wrestler.

    Davison is a very fine wrestler who just won his first state championship and is going to be attending a Big Ten school. But didn't Davison just barely squeeze out a double overtime semi-finals match to advance to the championship round?

    Meanwhile, Parris just completely dominated his 3rd consecutive state finals.  He seemed to easily pin some very fine wrestlers in their own right.  The wrestlers Parris wrestled were no jokes.  Parris is ranked where he is nationally for a very good reason.  Mason is one of the truly great wrestlers in IHSAA history.

    So I don't think I would wish Parris on Davidson ... unless you were at least doing some size scaling.

    Davison actually bumped up and wrestled Brandon Streck in our dual this year, it is in fact Brandon’s only other loss this year. It was a good match, 3-1 until last few moments when Brandon went for it and ended up giving up a takedown and backs.

  2. Maybe some common sense can prevail and people just be reasonable when saving seats.  1-2 per person in the section, anything more than that is unacceptable and if that group is not allowing you to sit down, I would advise notifying an usher.  I enjoy reading the posts in which they remove the tape or sheets that are saving seats.  I have never personally had an issue, but I think one of these years I am just gonna go around and purposely sit in "saved" seats!

    I think what makes this year stand out so much is that all of these wrestlers accomplishments have already happened. In some prior years, you can say there were so many total state champs, but that would come later in their careers. 126 this year already has 3 state titles, as well as more runnerups, semifinalists and other accolades.

    I agree with your take, I think when comparing deepest/best weight classes, I would only include the ones in which the accomplishments were from previous years.

    Most of your lower weight classes, which the majority are underclassmen, will always be stacked once you look back at them.  120/126 usually are the classes that we get to see the meat grinders, of course this is probably because the aforementioned underclassmen will eventually end up right around these weight classes when they hit their Senior years.

  4. Do any of the other IHSAA sports have their Semi-States hosted in venue similar to we do for wrestling?  I don't think this is true, but please correct me if I am wrong.  I would be interested to know how much money is made renting out the Ford Center and Coliseum.  I am betting that it is at best a push.  We are spoiled in wanting bigger/posh venues for our tournament locations prior to the State Finals.  I personally am OK with a High School hosting this event.  I think it is good for the location and a good source of revenue that can help out their athletic programs.  This leads me to another thing on my mind...

    Are we trying to emulate our State tournament too much prior to the actual tournament?  The spotlights, face offs with a listing of accomplishments, arenas hosting the event, etc.  I mean I think it is great, but I guess I would want some of this to be reserved for that third weekend in February.  Discussion?

  5. Should there be any teams that had 13 forfeits?  I thought if you entered 2 or less wrestlers, forfeits become byes.  My next question would be, if they only entered two wrestlers, and one of the two or both for some reason did not wrestle, do their spots become byes or forfeits?

    solid picks there should be a lot of really good semis.

    106-

    rematch from the DAC where it was a tale of 2 matches. Moran with the win dominated Early. Cruz showed that he never quits and came on strong at the end.

    113-

    gosa wrestled Russi early in the season with gosa won 8-7. He missed a sometime and russi looked tough in the finals against hegedus who has looked great winning DAC.

    120-

    I expect a rematch of the Griffith sectional final between Brock peele and Tylor Trina. This match needs no hype watch Saturday broadcast. I hope this is rd 2 of 4 with the finals being at the bank.

    126-

    A show down of sectional champions daniel mora Diaz who was a lake county champ will look to knock off highly ranked and returning medalist Colin poynter.

    132-

    reese Rodriguez returning from injury has been tested and passed so far the 2x state qualifiers is the favorite. The winner of the Alec Luna vs Jacob Maldonado semi should be a nice test for Reese

    138-

    Kris rumph looks to be firing on all cylinders. Which should frighten the 138 weight class. Ursey from merrillville is a lake county champ and has the ability to make a run to the medal stand.

    145-

    #1 kasper McIntosh is “on a mission” he has been lights out this year. He is looking to finish his impressive career with a blue medal. Cole Cervantes had a huge win in the semis Saturday which should give him a good shot at the finals.

    152-

    i will be looking forward to a pair of DAC champs squaring off for a possible title. Dj Washington has done nothing but impress in his debut season in Indiana. Aaron griggs will have a rematch of the lake county finals in the semis with hobarts Mikey hunter. If Griggs wins there could be a rematch of a Early season match in which Washington took a 6-5 win. Griggs is dangerous and should be medal chasing In Indy

    160-

    state ranked Dante colza has had some tight one in the post season so far. But he wins the tight ones. Colza could have a rematch with last years 152 regional champ Zach nugent. Colza was a OT winner in the semis Saturday. The other possible semi between Calumets Cody snook and Malik Hoover should be a great match also. Maybe one of the deeper weights.

    170-

    it will be the zack fattore show. He is the only undefeated wrestler in the field and it is well deserved. He is looking to finish his career under the lights at the bank. Standing in his way will be two seniors looking to finish their great careers in the parade of champions. Cody Crary munster and portage drake Guerrero.

    182-

    another very deep weight class. A trio of state qualifiers headline this weight Jeremy Torres took care of business at the sectional defeating Bradley Grover putting him in a bracket with merrillville ranked t-lock who defeat him at lake county. Torres and Lockett have had nice rivalry this year with Lockett winning two tight brawls. Don’t sleep on gavits Washington he gave Lockett all he wanted at the sectional.

    195-

    a handful of great athletes head line this weight Erion Hogan defeated Dennis Watson in finals of ec so set up a possible semi final with calumets AJ Fowler. While Fowler wasn’t upset Saturday a lot of people expected a shoot out with portage Jacob Bondon Before Bondon scores the fall. Bondon has been on fire the second half of the season a popular dark horse pick to make a deep run in Indy.

    220-

    3 of the top 4 at 220 will be closely contested. Chester swopes took care of business Saturday setting up a possible semi with munster Caleb Thomas. Brandon streck a medalist at 285 is down a weight and should be a heavy favorite. Streck has his sights set on Indy and a possible date with #1 nationally ranked mason parris. He shouldn’t look past calumet grinder James Lewis. The top 4 will be a handful at EC for any other regional.

    285-

    merrillville lake county champ Anthony Atria is the favorite. He has had a impressive first season in the varsity line up. He is wrestling Inspired. The other sectional champion had to weight for his opportunity as Ricky Beehn was a 3 year back up but is looking to make a huge impact in his final run. Calumet Martin should challenge atria in the semis.

    This should be a great day of wrestling. I am a better talker then writer. Hopefully I didn’t butcher this to much. I am excited to see how Hobart runs this I know they will do a great job.

    Matt answered this in part, but to be clear: brackets are always set up in multiples of 2 so that byes and forfeits occur only in the first round and not later. So always 4 or 8 or 16 or 32 or 64 and nothing in between those numbers. Otherwise, you would be stuck giving byes in later rounds. If you have 10 wrestlers, you can obviously match them all up in 5 matches, but then you have 5 left in round 2 and then what do you do? Instead, you have a bracket of 16 if there are 10 wrestlers, give 6 first round byes, wrestle two matches, and have 8 left in round 2 and therefore no more byes the rest of the tournament.

    Yes it will be 3 mats straight across. all bleachers pulled out, and possibly tip and roll bleachers up on the balconies.

    Ok, just wondering. Never been there with three across.  Is it close to the side walls?  I only ask this because some Officials will call the out of bounds differently if this is a safety issue.

    Well Its official, Griffith is running 2 mats for this sectional. The gym is very small and is going to be jammed packed. Many of the coaches were not happy with the location last night at the seeding meeting. I am pretty sure that it will be the last of the sectionals to complete. Will Griffith host next year? If no where will it go? Will Hobart get both the Sectional and the Regional? I am betting that there are going to be a lot of unhappy campers at this sectional on Saturday.

    Question for Regionals...will it be three mats ran across or pyramid with one set of bleachers up?

  10. Taken from Winter Bulletin @Wrestling Scholar

    6. Determination of seeded wrestlers is given in order of importance: Varsity contests are the only record submitted for seeding consideration.

    a. Head to head competition current year; (The wrestler with the most head to head wins gets the seed. If they have beaten each other an equal number of times, then the winner of the last match gets the seed. Head to head is counted at any level of interscholastic competition.  Matches against teammates are not counted for seeding purposes.);

    b. Record against common opponents;

    c. Semi‐State quarterfinalist, or higher in previous year IHSAA Tournament Series;

    d. Win percentage. A contestant with the best overall record (winning percentage) who has wrestled at least 10 matches; For seeding purposes, forfeits should not be included in a wrestler’s record.

    e. Farthest advancement in previous year IHSAA State Tournament Series;

    f. Draw by lot. Criteria is reset after determining each seed.

    Criteria is reset after determining each seed

    NOTE: A wrestler with less than ten matches may not be seeded ahead of a wrestler with at least ten matches and a winning record unless he/she meets criteria in a, b or c.  A wrestler with a losing record may not be seeded unless he/she meets criteria a, b or c unless there are less than six (6) wrestlers in the bracket.

  11. No, ADs submit a Sectional roster with up to 3 kids eligible at each weight class.  What is submitted on track is Sectional entries for each weight.

    If he is gonna be injured and questionable to wrestle, maybe to allow for another wrestler to be seeded that may not have, if the #1 guy was entered?  Once you are unseeded, you are not moved, unless you are the last drawn in wrestler moving into the #6 seeded slot.  This would only occur if there is no replacement for a seeded wrestler.

    I am sure I can come up with other reasons, but I think they are few and far between as to why this would be done.  Did you ask the Coach why?

  12. I disagree with seeding B first, I feel that it should move to the next criteria.  A is at a disadvantage because he has not wrestled an extra match against either B or C.  Also, if we are talking record against common opponents, then we should add up ALL common opponents that each of the three have wrestled.  Of course this could take some time to compute, making for longer meetings.  I think the fact that we all have different opinions on this is even more reason to move on to the next criteria.

  13. If a wrestler is not on your Sectional roster submitted by your AD, he can not be entered.  Also, if no wrestler is entered at the weight class during the seeding meeting, then no wrestler can be entered later.

    If they did enter a wrestler, the new wrestler can be entered as a replacement.  If the entered wrestler was a seeded wrestler, he is removed and new entry is placed in the #6 seed and everyone moves up.  If they are unseeded, then they are entered as if the were the original wrestler.

    An advantage of not submitting a deserving seed is to remain separated from a higher seed.  Seeds 2,3, and 6 are opposite of the #1 seed.  This would be one reason I could imagine this would be done, not sayin I agree with it either, just trying to answer your question as to the why.
