Marlin Stewart vs Jason Terry

Not the Arsenal Tech Sectional. Might be the worst compilation of depth I've ever seen. Pulling LN, LC, North Central, and Mt. Vernon (Fortville) from an otherwise pedestrian sectional was hard to watch.

"Meat" is from a great family. His uncle Terry was my coach in High School and I still consider him a mentor.
Agreed. Had an epic battle w Meat at Market Square. Jeremy Hamilton was my bestie too... -

Crazy to think about how much better avon could have been this year. We could have seen a 106 case bell plus Braylon Reynolds, Lucas boe, and Caden brewer in the lineup. (I get other places were better fits for them) this Avon team is already doing great things and still could of been that much better
#thecounty eating their own as usual. One day they might get a title.- Mattyb and No One Famous

Thanks for the info on Miller, he did indeed qualify as a sophomore.
Speaking of Robert Miller, he started his career in the Cathedral room as a freshman. He struggled to get his weight off to make the team as a freshman at 135. Robert was the last of the one of the nastiest rooms in the state in that era, the Christian Park room, on the near-east side of Indy.
That room produced 9 state champs (that I can count) and prob another 15 medalists in the late 80s and early 90s: Lance Ellis (4), Jason Terry (2), Puckett, Rob Walke, Robert Miller were the champs. Medalists included Billy Terry 2x, Scotty Ellis, Sean McGinley 2x, Dan Ireland, Todd Mackall, Eric Guhl and many more. One of the nastiest groups of lads I've ever met. The room was run by Grandpa John Sherrill. One of the greatest patriarchs in Indy wrestling history. Grandpa John: Overalls and Kodiak spitting on the side of the mat and the most vile motivation that I can never forget.
And, Rob Miller is one of a kind. Hope he's well. Had some battles in the room with him in the ol' days.

Matt Hasbrook was 41-3 his junior year and was terribly ill (103 degree temp at weigh-in). Almost lost first round to a no-name in OT before losing to Blair Hammer from Carmel, who he had beaten the previous 7 times. He pinned the state runner-up Jason Kemper (LN) in the Regional in :34 that year.
He had just won the Fargo Junior Greco title (beating Cain Velasquez of UFC fame) and got runner up in Freestyle to Stephen Mocco the summer before. Very depressing day for Matt and the Irish. One of those instances that just suck, but you build your character off of.
Same goes for Jason Terry on the Saturday morning at Market Square his junior year losing to Devon Nelson. Projectile vomiting in the tunnel before the match. He should have been a 3x.
Two major sicknesses that stripped a couple would-be titles from the Irish record books.

Man, an Ice House steak sandwich sounds amazing
Gotta spell it right. Makes the sandwich that much better: Stake SandwichMy favorite dive bar in Indiana. And, I've been to plenty.

The ghosts of Lance Rhodes and RexPeck were alive and well channeling that Icehouse Stake Sandwich energy to the New Castle boys yesterday. Congrats on a great day and a solid future...

Every year the talk is about #thecounty. Garcia, Brewer, all the blow hards. I guess it's Hendricks County? Will they ever win anything?
Pretty damn impressive that Center Grove almost exclusively represented Johnson County and pretty much smoked the Brownsburg/Avon/Danville/whatever the eff #thecounty considers themself. If you throw in Buttler or Lowery, they really run laps around the west side. If anyone claims a county outside of Marion, it should probably be Johnson. The weirdest thing is you never hear about Johnson County. Actually, you don't hear about any other "counties" in the state except the one on the west side of Indy.
Be better, westsiders.
Also, congrats to Crown Point. Not the best day and you still smoked the field. Enjoy it. Two damn amazing years.

Man, I was wrong. Center Grove posted up today. Made it interesting. Shame on me.

Pretty sure you are a volunteer "commentator"? If so, everyone else can pound sand. Thanks for taking the time to build Indiana Wrestling. I enjoyed a little color watching your mat from afar today. Have a great Saturday. No holds barred with the morning round! LFG.

One of the more anti-climactic seasons ever. Incredible team for Crown Point. I hope they shatter their record.

Detweiler over Brewer 10-7. 4 over a 1 with major impact for the team race.
Was Brewer ill or gassed? Unlikely comeback. Dagger for Brownsburg title hopes... -

Do BB or CG have a remote chance of beating Crown Point? CG looking good!

Hard to omit Lance Ellis from this discussion. His senior year run with the lateral for the fall to secure his 4th title was as badass as anything I've ever seen. I don't know this, but I would gamble that he had more falls than anyone in state finals history..

Had to resort to the Cathedral oracle on Paul in his honor:
He beat Billy Terry 7-3 in 1987 semifinals. Billy was arguably Cathedral's best wrestler to never win the state. His brother Jason won twice and placed 4X.
He also beat Coach Sean McGinley 8-5 in 1988 finals at Market Square. Winner of that match would win the IHSAA Team State title.
-
Good Lord. Was he mid-50s probably? The Bellmont, Delta, Cathedral battles in the 80s were legendary. He anchored the Bellmont teams. Prayers up to the Gunsett family.

Very impressive that a small school like Western finishes in the top 5 of the Al Smith.
Well, we have outliers in the rural communities. Western. Delta. Belmont. Etc. The Shepards, Bumgardners, Mendenhalls, Jarretts, etc are Indiana wrestling icons.
Shepards might be the only other family outside of the McGinleys with more Indiana heritage. These kids make Indiana wrestling the greatest. Chad Shepard is kind of a big deal as Western's coach. One of the sickest cradles in Indiana wrestling history. Used it to his advantage in 1990-1991ish...
-
Put another McGinley in mix. Max McG's coming out party. Everything is better when a McGinley is wrestling well for the Irish.

Gotta be the frogmen from Syracuse, Indiana. The green and white. The ghosts of the Channel Marker. The castaways of Griffith's. It's the lineup sponsored by Beef's Booze Barn. And a little Syracuse Cafe.

I'll take Wagner all day in this bracket, 3xAA at Michigan
For what it's worth, Matt Hasbrook teched Wagner in the ISWA state in 2000. Wasn't close.
And, Frank Hammond was just OK. I would pick Larimore or Chico above him. Or the the Whiteland kid from 2000.

I was gonna say that. State tourney for two years in a row from sectional on and 2 other tourneys together (Spartan Classic and North Central Invite). I think Marlin got him only one time.
