Mason Parris had 13 pins in 13 matches his senior postseason, and spent a grand total of 21:02 on the mat from sectionals-state with nobody making the third period.

He is going to be unknown by most here but Coach Tillman. The man is the picture of a professional individual that truly cares about his wrestlers, the community, and well everyone. He was never my coach. The complete opposite actually. I have coached against this man many times. It does not matter if you are one of his wrestlers, a local community wrestler, or a wrestler from the other side of the country he would treat you as if you were on his team and he had known you his entire coaching career. He is also a veteran of the United States Marines. I can think of only a few people that I hold in the same regard as this man. I learned from him even as a Coach. His compassion, empathy, and wisdom are second to none. I am blessed to say he is my friend, brother in arms, and a valued member of the community that I love calling home.

Came here to say exactly this. A pillar of Clinton County wrestling!

It's just a yes/no question. The logic of the thread seems to have a natural progression toward the class wrestling argument, which has been pointed out by more than one poster. Are you in favor of classing the individual tournament?

And since this seems to be more along the lines of what you wish to discuss, then maybe this is a question you are more comfortable answering:

Do you feel there is a failure in logic based on geography, school size or both?

Well looks to me like they were trying to grab at least one BIG school when they were building that sectional. They kinda had to skip past Lebanon, reach out and scoop up Zionsville. I can see the challenge they were facing for sure. Brownsburg would actually make more sense to pull into that sectional than Carmel if they were hankering for another big school there in that sectional. Again, it doesn't necessarily bother me. I can just see the original reason the question was asked.

As for class wrestling, I believe I have come to the personal conclusion that more postseason success for more kids equals more kids leave wrestling with a good taste in their mouths and a positive view of their experience. Which they then pass on to their progeny and whatnot. As a tiny 1A wrestler, I will always take pride in my relatively meager accomplishments, my sectional championship wins meant more to me knowing I was up against the big dogs. I know I would have most likely been a placer in class wrestling, but it doesn't necessarily hurt me or make me feel less happy about my career. But I am also obsessed with the sport and frankly, kids are different nowadays. I know for sure we would have better retention if these kids saw more tangible success, however "empty" that success may seem.

  4. Quick Breakdown of the wrestlers making it out of the North Mont regional. Of the 29% of the Crawfordsville sectional, Zionsville makes up nearly half. Seems to me that if these two sectionals ere more "evenly" distributed with big and small schools, the final results going to semistate would be about the same. Some combination of Fishers, Carmel, HSE, Westfield, and Zionsville with some small school studs mixed in.  The effect would be maybe seeding of the Zionsville wrestlers since they would have stronger competition at sectionals, and maybe a few more Rossville or Prairie kids make it to regionals and a few less Parke Heritage kids. Big picture, it is really a wash. Though we pride ourselves in being in one of the tougher sectionals and competing hard with these big schools, and we tell ourselves the same line, "Ya gotta beat them eventually," sectional weekend would definitely be less soul sucking and demoralizing if we got even one or two more out each year. Of course, that would be at the expense of 1a schools in the Crawfordsville sectional, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make... 😆

At our conference meet I coached in multiple matches where the opposing wrestling called for injury.  Then got up, walked over to his coach and drank some water, talked for about 30 seconds and then walked back to the circle and said he was ready!  No inhaler, no trainer, no blood, no rubbing a shoulder or any body part.

Didn't even bother to bust out the can of cold spray?? Brazen!!

History generally shows that when a freshman goes against the #1 senior during the regular season, the freshman makes better adjustments than the senior at state.

Mendez vs Watts was close at Al Smith then Mendez majors Watts in Semis.

Jason Tsirtsis loses a close match to Cashe Quirogo at the traicoff and got revenge in the Semis at state.

Joe Lee loses 8-2 to Brandon James at team state and then pins him in the semis.

However last year Huyvert beat solomey at regionals and then solomey goes on to win state.

I think Freshman generally have more room to grow in a short time period compared to a senior. That being said Shepherd might have to take out Ison and Kyrel in the same day to win a state title. I think 138 has 3 serious title contenders: Ison, Kyrel and Shepherd. Whoever is on the other side of the bracket is gonna walk to the finals in my opinion.

Very good points! I suppose time will tell if Clinton is on THAT level. And you're dead on about the bracket,

  8. Just rewatched his match with Leavell. Impressive wrestler, my first time watching him! That being said, that seemed like one of those matches that a wrestler will just get caught up in a specific position and before you know it,the match is over. I felt Kyrel controlled a lot of the match and got away from attacking the legs. Unbiased opinion is that they missed a stall call against Clinton on the edge. Honestly my money is on Kyrel in a rematch, and it will be worth the price of admission and then some!
