  1. The entire point of my post was showing that Crown Point did not have an easy path…. More top 8 ranked wrestlers in EC than Evansville
  2. Weak is a really poor word choice. CP had 11 champs at regionals and they were rewarded with 6 different semi final matches against top 5 state ranked opponents (4 ranked in the top 2). Brownsburg has 0 possible matchups this weekend against top 5 ranked opponents in the semis. Both teams have 4 wrestlers who will face top 10 ranked opponents just to get to state. This is not me arguing that East Chicago is as tough as Evansville. But to say Crown Point has a weak path at semi state is just untrue. Put Crown Point in Evansville semi state in exchange for brownsburg or center grove and I guarantee CP gets 10+ qualifiers these past 3 seasons. Center Grove literally sent 12 to state last year and Crown Point was significantly stronger than Center Grove was. Crown Point is actually at a disadvantage in some cases since Brownsburg and Center Grove are in the same regional because that splits them apart at semi state. Then Crown Point has to take Brownsburg and Center Grove both in the same day to win state in some cases. You would think if they had such an easy path that they would have less ranked opponents overall as a team in the ticket round and semis but it’s actually the opposite. I’m also not saying it’s like this every year, this is the first year I decided to research both CP and BB’s path to state and was shocked to find overwhelming evidence that proved CP had just as much obstacles thrown at them as brownsburg. Yes I understand Haines vs Henderson is a death draw, but that could of been prevented if Haines took at least 2nd at regionals. Gibbs vs May is a crime but so is Sessa vs Rivera. Two top 8 guys battling to make it. All I’m saying is Crown Point is gonna have to come prepared Saturday and be ready to battle because this team race is far from over. Crown Point will have to earn this title just like Brownsburg and Center Grove.
  3. Don’t sleep on purple dogs yet either. They got 5-6 state title contenders.
  4. You’re right, White is underrated. Finally cracked the nationally ranked lineup. Kaptur is underrated too. If his win over #3 in Illinois didn’t open some eyes I’m sure his performance this weekend will.
  5. CP 2023 team is the best dual team ever. I think that CP 2024 can break the 2022 record at state. But it will be quite the task.
  6. Anyone know which school holds the record for most state qualifiers in a season and how many? Thought maybe Center Grove tied the Mater Dei record last year with 12.
  7. That Clinton Shepherd has had an okay season. I wouldn’t be surprised seeing him on the podium this year.
  8. Before the semi’s Crown Point will have 4 wrestlers facing top 10 opponents as well.
  9. I’ve seen a lot of talk the past couple years that CP benefits from their semi state compared to Brownsburg. The talk started up again this year and realizing how tough CP draws were I did some research. CP has 14 wrestlers trying to qualify for state. In their way are 12 different state ranked opponents. (86% chance CP will wrestle a state ranked opponent to qualify.) Brownsburg has 13 wrestlers trying to qualify for state. There are only 7 state ranked opponents in their way of qualifying (54% chance BB will wrestle a state ranked opponent to qualify.) I noticed CP got really tough semi final draws. CP could have a state ranked opponent in every semi final compared to 12/13 for Brownsburg. But here’s the madness. CP has 6 different Semi Final matchups against Top 5 State Ranked wrestlers (4 of those are ranked top 2). Brownsburg will face 0 top 5 state ranked opponents during the semi finals this weekend. Evansville is still clearly the harder semi state and I would argue that the two toughest individual draws between CP and BB are Gibbs and Haines. But I think the evidence above proves that CP will have to earn their state title this year just like Brownsburg/ CG will.
  10. Lewis proved to be right there with Dickman, neither got a takedown. The depth of CP is underrated. At 144 CP threw in Jacob Jones who is 3rd string at 144 for CP (behind Washington and Baca). After falling behind 11-0 after the 1st period, Jones outscored Parker Reynolds (The #2 in the state) 1-0, resulting in a 11-1 finish. How many schools have a 3rd string wrestler that can wrestle a whole match against the #2 guy in the state? Then at 150, CP lost Evan Cruz due to a concussion from the Al Smith and backup Kaptur Nowaczyk comes in and almost knocks off #3 in the state Tommy Gibbs.
  11. History generally shows that when a freshman goes against the #1 senior during the regular season, the freshman makes better adjustments than the senior at state. Mendez vs Watts was close at Al Smith then Mendez majors Watts in Semis. Jason Tsirtsis loses a close match to Cashe Quirogo at the traicoff and got revenge in the Semis at state. Joe Lee loses 8-2 to Brandon James at team state and then pins him in the semis. However last year Huyvert beat solomey at regionals and then solomey goes on to win state. I think Freshman generally have more room to grow in a short time period compared to a senior. That being said Shepherd might have to take out Ison and Kyrel in the same day to win a state title. I think 138 has 3 serious title contenders: Ison, Kyrel and Shepherd. Whoever is on the other side of the bracket is gonna walk to the finals in my opinion.
  12. Not much of a “breakout” but Joe Lee bumping up and pinning bam was impressive
  13. Brownsburg 21-22 should definitely be on that list.
