I posted this in a different thread
I think we take for granted how awesome indiana wrestling really is. We may not have 5 guys in every weight that are ranked nationally, but the show and production of the state finals is second to none. Legit freakin awesome with 2 guys battling for a title under the lights. No can defend
once I left southern indiana after teaching and coaching I moved to Arizona and went and watched their state finals.... Holy crap it's pathetic, I've never even gone back, not one time. Yet every year I watch ihsaa via track wrestling..... Even though it severely disappointed this year. Watching on track wrestling this year was a train wreck.
Arizona has like 5 classes and multiple kids at STATE with losing records like14-17 or 12-15
and these guys call themselves state qualifiers. U can watch other stae finals on YouTube and just see that they don't compare to what we have going on in the Hoosier state

The 138 Semifinals (Melloh vs. Mulkey and Rumph vs. Combest) were equally impressive in my book!

Match score was wrong causing the match to change course.  Schute's coach should have complained and got the following sequence whistled as "bad time".  Schute was denied his true place of glory, due to this error.  Swain can't hold his mud.

Thought the match was typical Ty & Asa matches from the past, pretty boring much like watching paint dry. Lost count how many times they have wrestled so you get where I’m coming from . Most of you don’t know that they trained for many years together, wrestled on the same Middle School together, Wrestling trips together ect... ect....  Both are #parrishtrained. They know each other very well and it shows on the mat. They both know what’s at stake . Win, you set your own path, lose you take maybe a harder path to State . Two great wrestlers going at it every week, one committed to ACC in Duke, other making a name for himself for the rest of the Colleges in a few years . Iron only sharping Iron. I feel sorry for the rest of the competition knowing that Your probably going draw into these two hammers these next couple of weeks knowing they are battling every week getting better & better. Round 3 in Moorseville this coming weekend. Heck.... instead of asking questions on here what happen & details.... why not make the trip and be a Witness ?  There are so many great matchups to count going down in MVille.
Glad our boys are giving you guys something to talk about other than the County they come from also.

The two teams were in different pools and did not wrestle in the cross over so both coaches agreed to wrestle the match at the end of the day. It’s great to see both coaches and wrestlers want this match to happen. So many times you see people shuffle around to avoid the big match up. Hats off to Zionsville and New Albany!

Back to topic...agree.  If a wrestler (or his coaches) are more concerned with win/loss record and/or ranking I believe it will undermine the achievement of goals.  Now to be totally objective...not everyone has the same goals.  For some it may be to qualify for Semi State, punch a ticket at State, place at State.  A great win/loss record or high ranking will still not help you achieve those goals.  If a wrestler's goal is to wrestle under the lights, the best way to achieve that is to have first hand knowledge of the other 15 guys in the state bracket!  It is rare to go undefeated, and  those that have ended their season without blemish, are the least likely to have ever "dodged" a match up to get there.  "Best way to make a name for yourself...is by taking someone else's name away"  aka  "if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best".  Great example is Jacob LaPlace-Mishawaka 138# who placed 4th at State as a freshman. Jacob had 13 losses on his record going into State.  The reason that Jacob placed that high as a freshman WAS the 13 losses.  That is what prepared him to reach his goal. And I've never heard anyone stick an asterisk next to that accomplishment with a note that says....yeah but he had 13 losses.  Is there a wrestler out there that will not admit that they have learned more from a tough loss than from an easy win?  From a fans standpoint, we respect a wrestler that steps up for a challenge...win or lose.

Most Likely because Super 32 didnt have as much depth at that weight at least according to Willie. Penola didn't beat any ranked guys and lost to the only one did wrestle. Could probably justify it if he beat some one in the high teens. That is what helped Asa break in was being in the meat grinder that was 126 as well as his win over a ranked opponent.
That being said those last 5 spots are always the hardest to rank because a lot of kids could battle for them. Penola's time will come in there if he keeps it up kid was everywhere this year i could see him and Davison having a battle at Bankers Life unless they meet earlier.
