I coached the middle school national team at folkstyle national duals the last handful of years (including the team that took 3rd this year). With this said, very few middle schoolers and incoming freshmen have been able to place in the top 4 at the ihpo. Saw some really good kids come up short yesterday. But... I assure you that a handful of freshmen will place at state this year. The growth of these studs from November til February is typically amazing to see.
With that said... I will say it again... Jesse is born ready. Look forward to seeing him being our next 4 timer (unless he goes to Blair or something like that).

I just tweeted this, four middle school wrestlers have made the finals
3 champs all at 109, Brandon James at the 1st IHPO, Nick Lee at the 2nd, and Jesse Mendez this year. Also Mason Manville made the finals at 155lbs as an 8th grader losing by 1 point to an Illinois state champ.
    That's some very good company.

I know his time spent on the Brownsburg Elementary Team State Dual team really shaped his life and his wrestling abilities............so there is that !

Mendez could win state at 106-113 as an 7th grader and 113-132 as an 8th grader.
He just beat two Indiana state place winners and one Kentucky state place winner yesterday as a 7th grader
We know Nick Lee won as a 7th grader. Who did he beat in his path? One big name I remember is Hayden lee...who else?

Great back and forth battle. Could not have asked for a better final match to decide everything.
Snyder gets match winning TD with 30sec left to secure the World Title.  He is now in the argument for the top P4P wrestler in the world.

Our first World Team Title since 1995.  And with the recently announced new world weight classes starting soon we maybe set up for a run of team titles over the next couple years.

Is their any wrestlers in particular that you would like to see sign up at 109?  Just curious, because I'm really excited to watch this weight and see how it plays out. I can't really think of very many at all that HAS NOT signed up from Indiana that could make things much more interesting for Mendez and the other studs. You know alot more than me tho. Is their any Middle Schoolers that are in his league? Can you think of anyone else that is not signed up or that I forgot that could sign up for Indiana that is in his league?

Here is the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that could definitely cause him and the other studs some problems that are not signed up. Let me know if I forgot anyone or if their are any other middle schoolers that can compete with him and the others that are signed up.

Andrew Black(I really wanna see him sign up. I believe he can compete with anyone that has signed up)

Hunter Watts (don't know if he could make 109 or not? but if he did he'd be right in the mix also)

Brock Peele (don't know if he could make 109 either but if he did and wrestled well then he could be dangerous)

My son was a part of this team both this year & last year & it was a great experience for him! The cost was really not bad, $550 for both styles, compared to what they are paying for Fargo. As far as who was on the team, many of the names suggested did not wrestle at Freestyle & Greco State. My son was always taught that doing these styles would improve your Folkstyle wrestling. He placed 1st in Greco & 2nd (behind Konrath) in Freestyle at state. In hindsight, he probably would've been more competitive at a weight class lower, but he also had to bump up a weight class half of the matches because we didn't have a 132 pounder! Encourage these "hammers" to compete at the state level so we can have a better team, but don't complain when the kids who won top spots in our state competition didn't fair as well as you hoped. These kids put in the practice & competed at the state level, so they deserved to go.

Facebook friends, This is a summary of the weeks past events. Please share with anyone that you may know that have been following your posts.
So many thanks to EVERYONE in their support of Remington in his Miraculous Improvement.
For those that may not know, 12 yr old, Remington Bultemeier (a Wyneken 6th grader) suffered a severe neck injury Sunday while competing in a wrestling tournament in Huntington. In what should simply be described as a freak incident, Remington went down while trying to escape his opponent. When his father quickly arrived to his side, Remington calmly responded by informing his father he was sure that he had broken his neck and that he couldn't could move or feel anything. Attending trainers, medical professionals and amazing friends rushed to his side to immobilize him. Shortly after the incident, Remington calmly asked his father to call his pastor as he said that he needed prayers. Once Pastor Daniel Dahling was reached, Remington personally asked Pastor to pray for him and asked to pray for forgiveness of any sins that he may have committed. It took several minutes for 1st responders to arrive and further immobilize Remington. After what may have been 20-30 minutes, Remington slowly began to gain limited feeling back in feet followed by feeling in his hands. Remington was initially transported to Lutheran hospital for initial evaluation and further immobilization. Dr's. determined that C3 and C4 vertebrae had been displaced and suspected a rupture of the ligaments running through his vertebrae thus leaving the spinal column unstable. Dr. In Ft Wayne recommended transfer of Remy to Riley hospital. After arriving at Riley a large crew of Trauma Dr's, Nurses and Neurosurgeons determined what was suspected at Ft. Wayne and that Remington would need surgery to fuse the vertebrae C2 through C5.
The 6 hr surgery was successfully completed in the late evening hrs on Monday to install 2 steel rods and 8 screws. This will give the spine permanent support while it fuses the vertebrae that will support his spinal column. The surgeon said what a blessing surgery was performed right away due to the sizeable blood clot in his spinal column. Had surgery not been done when it had, the likelihood of the clot pressing on the spine and causing paralysis may have been unavoidable.
Since Monday, his progress has been nothing short of astounding. He took his first steps, of many to come, on Thursday. Several Dr.'s have expressed their amazement that Remy didn't suffer separation of the spinal cord which likely would have been fatal due to location of the injury. Remy firmly attributes this is directly due to God's protection along with the thousands of prayers and vigils that took place shortly after the incident, during the surgery and the days that have followed.
Though the situation has been difficult, Remy has taken great comfort in the fact that the situation has seemingly drawn 1000's of people to gain a stronger relationship with Christ through prayers and their witnessing a true miracle. Even first responders, who have witnessed some extemely traumatic situations, have communicated their amazement in his initial display of faith in the situation being in God's hands.
Shortly after surgery, Remy communicated that "He felt the Angels with him during surgery". He knows, without a doubt, these were the Angels of prayers from friends, individuals in our community, state, nation and around the world. He especially wants to thank Pastor Dahling, the churches, the local schools, organizations, and those in the wrestling family around the country. The outreach from his Gofundme page, personal donations and other financial support has been amazing.
His visitors that have come to Riley have been the sunshine on his cloudy days! They have eased so much of the pain! To those that have not been able make it, he knows that you have been with him also! He looks forward to seeing you at home.
The staff of Riley's has been amazing! All of the amazing stories that you hear about the hospital can't do justice for how unbelievable they are.
Remy knows the road will be long but the continued prayers will carry him down the road to recovery. He wants to let everyone know he's going to be OK! He's scared but excited at the same to get home to show everyone "He's gonna be alright". He loves all of you! Blessings to each and every one of you!
Thanks so much for your help! If anyone would like to reach out they can feel free to contact me through Facebook or by phone at 2602237352. Thanks Again, Corbin.

This is indeed the rub.  I like it when the list is there and I see some good opponents/numbers in my son's weight.  But, lots of times people are waiting to sign up until the last minute.  If everyone does this nobody knows who's coming even IF the list is visible.

We choose our local tournaments based on location (specifically we choose one that we can weigh-in the day of and get to within an hour to hour and a half).  Then if we are traveling and getting a hotel we go to big tournaments (ISWA State, Tournament of Champions, Cliff Keen Nationals etc....) where we know there will be good numbers.

The other thing I have done is to look back in trackwrestling to previous years and see what the numbers look like.  If it seems to be growing over the pasty 2 years I'll take a shot at it.

As a parent of a young heavy weight, I can feel your pain. We have traveled to many matches and no one to wrestle. It would be nice to see the number, it really doesn't matter who it is. The main thing is to get mat time. When you have heavy weight school boys, or cadets in 8th grade and cannot move up to junior, it is really disappointing to the kid when he has no one to wrestle.

You're probably right. I just hate to sign up for a tournament, drive two hours and there not be anyone there. We like to go to tourneys we haven't been to before - so we don't always hit up the ones closest. I think wrestler lists should always be available, instantly.
