ACMSBagubas reacted to UncleJimmy in Potential Big Changes in Indiana Wrestling
I don't know why I do this to myself every year...
I know not the answer to this question, and will not go to the basketball board to look, but are more kids playing basketball now that IN is classed? Or are more kids just getting a trophy? I grew up a big hoops guy, but I haven't been able to name more than one team in the classed finals since they started it and have not felt a need to attend it since. Is attendance for the hoop finals up or down since inception? I'd guess down.
I can only formulate an opinion based on similarities, and if you believe that hoops is better in the state since classification, then I guess you can convince me wrestling could have the same result, but I don't feel that way and have yet to be convinced.
Now get off my lawn, @Galagore...I blame you for sucking me back into this yearly freakin' thread. Quit taggin' me..I had this thread on IGNORE!

not worried about wrestle backs necessarily. I would MUCH rather go to wrestle backs than go to classed wrestling.
My main intent was to hi-jack the thread.

SMH...19 hours of a new Class topic and you dudes only have 4 pages..you all are slackin'!
Again, I do not support class wrestling for all the reasons mentioned the past 10 years. I understand and respect your opinions/arguments @Galagore...but you're wrong! This will be my last post on this subject..this year. Carry on, class wrestling supporters!

North Vermillion isn’t better than Brownsburg for the same reason all but Crown Point aren’t better than Brownsburg. Coaching, Culture, access to wrestling clubs and School buy-in

ACMSBagubas reacted to Mitchell1993 in State tickets
I know everyone complains about general admission. But the fact teams are separated and that loses momentum for some, plus now people who have been going for 20+ years are sitting in upper bowl and struggling to get tickets and most are deciding to just stay at home and stream is hurting the atmosphere. Yes the IHSAA still gets their money because people are buying as many tickets as possible that may not need them or fill those seats. I am throwing it back out there. Back to GA!

ACMSBagubas reacted to maligned in Team State qualification leaderboard 2023 (FINAL)
Any process weve used has yielded huge numbers of FW schools at 1A and 2A. It's tough. It's a little like saying, why can't we leave out EMD, who's only 3rd best from their semi-state and give someone like Homestead a shot? The qualifying doesn't bear it out and neither do the season results. FW is a small school hotbed. Small schools wont usually produce state champ level talent, but the depth of very good is at a high level there right now. Do people realize FW SS went 28-28 in its 1st round State Finals matches last year with 24 of those 28 state placers being 1A/2A? The entire rest of the state had 25 QUALIFIERS from 1A/2A and only 11 placers.
Someone was saying last year how few 1A teams get through from New Castle to Team State, but NC had an exactly proportional 25% of the participants the previous 5 years and averaged 9th place out of 12.
Not all 4A schools/regions are created equally, but the same is true for FW with 1A/2A right now.

ACMSBagubas reacted to Y2CJ41 in Middle School qualifiers
Most other tournaments allow a "free" weigh-in later in the same evening. This is flat out paying for a competitive advantage. This is not right and should be corrected with a free weigh-in on Saturday night.

ACMSBagubas got a reaction from ILUV2PIN in Middle school state duals
I like the idea. Getting these kids exposed to the excitement of chasing a “championship” of any kind, with their teammates, surely has a positive impact on the sport!

Not sure if this has ever been brought up, but has anyone ever suggested adding in a small school division for the MS state duals like they have for the elementary state duals? I’m sure there would a lot of smaller schools that would be interested in that as well as growing the event.

Middle School is the Wild West of wrestling. Good luck ever nailing down anything close to a consistent set of rules.

ACMSBagubas reacted to Greg Ratliff in New Team State Locations
Well lots goes into it... but 1 location or 4 we're still going to have several upset it's not where they want it.
But we are commonly asked to centralize the tournaments. We've tried to do that often at several complexes, but can't do that without losing lots of money.
Team tournaments are very different than a tournament that are "pay per entrant".
Fort Wayne was very cost efficient, but not centrally located.
This set-up is different than last year and I think a better option.
Last year 1A and 2A were in one location; which is 24 teams, which was a 12 mat setup (8 in the fieldhouse and 4 in the gym).
This year 1A and 3A are together, which is 20 teams, which is a 10 mat setup (6 in the fieldhouse and 4 in the gym).
There are some ideas already being tossed out there next year to centrally locate it and try and have more classes together, but it's not an easy process.
I won't say we are exempt from mistakes, but we keep trying to improve and have a lot of people working on this tournament that just love the sport/ tournament.
Always welcome for constructive ideas to consider, but we are always working through several scenarios.

ACMSBagubas reacted to BLF Snow Cone in Davids over Goliaths
After Marshall Fishback's HWT title, it got me thinking about enrollments and small over large. Here are some of the notable enrollment disparity results from this year's state finals. *(Forgive me for missing any - also, I did not include EMD results) **(I am using 2022 IDOE data, not IHSAA's 2021 covid numbers)
Adams Central 366 > Penn 3345 - 2979
Adams Central 366 > Noblesville 3220 - 2854
Charlestown 717 > HSE 3430 - 2713
Oak Hill 526 > Crown Point 2923 - 2397
Daleville 281 > Westfield 2611 - 2330
Bluffton 471 > Portage - 2269
Rochester 492 > Westfield 2611 - 2119
Frankfort 893 > Brownsburg 2983 - 2090

ACMSBagubas reacted to jetwrestling in State Bracket - 1 Wish
My one wish for the state finals is not bracket related. It would be to have the walk of champions with the entire group of qualifiers. I overheard one of my wrestlers talking to a teammate saying we have been teammates since 1st grade and I wish we could walk together. One is first session and one is second.
