Ft.Wayne native and Indiana St. alum David Eric Doster played baseball at New Haven High School and Indiana State University before playing 13 seasons of professional baseball. He mostly played at the AAA level but also parts of two seasons at the major league level as well as playing some in the Japanese and Mexican leagues. May be a stretch to list him above Larry Bird, Bruce Baumgartner, and Kurt Thomas though.
List revised:
T #1 Dave Doster

# 5 Burl Ives (Snowman from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer)

NJ has Baumgartner, Mocco and Cassar
Minn. has Lesnar, Nelson, Kerkvliet and (arguably) Steveson
PA and Ohio have had multiple each.
Its an interesting topic for sure. I'd probably give it to NJ considering Bruce went there and he may be the most underappreciated wrestler of all time.

So this year's state tournament was "fine" and you are no less a state champ, placer, or qualifier if you went to this one than if it was held at indy or somewhere else.
However blindly acting like it was all sunshine and roses is silly.
Evansville as a city did great. Most people found criticism with the IHSAA leadership. They could have moved the state tournament. Do it the same time as swimming. Ncaa does it all the time especially at the D2 level. It's a great atmosphere. . . It's also cheaper for most schools. 1bus, better hotel rates, AD only has to be in one place. Communities love it.
Ihsaa leadership wanted to be at all the state events. Even came out and stated travel to and from the different sites on competition day was not something they were interested in doing.
I think some of you would feel differently if your loved one was competing in this tournament for possibly their first and/or only time. Easy to blow off poor planing and tickets problems if you already have a "hookup" or you don't mind spending $102 on tickets.
moving wrestling was the path of least resistance. Wrestling is a second class citizen in Indiana. It probably won't change until we get a "wrestling guy" on the ihsaa staff.
So was this year's state tournament perfect? ? ? No... is it time to move on?
Definitely
Ps. Shout out to this 2024 class,
Guys like May, Leavell, Ison, and Myers only got one "normal" year
2021- no fans present
2022- split parade of champions
2023- Normal year****
2024 moved tournament
I did feel for the kids on Saturday night. I thought the crowed was small compared to what I think it would have been in Indy. But, it was still a great weekend and much better than I thought it was going to be.

It is at Mooresville High School this year. Not sure about having it streamed as of yet.
$5 spectator fee. Not bad for the quality of wrestling.
Looking forward to having Easton there next year!!

Teams are almost set, the girls team is full.
Boys team needs 113 and 2 at 120. I've sent a couple emails out today, but at this point if you are a senior wrestler at 113 or 120 contact me and we will go from there.

Where is this being held and will it be televised or streamed??

No it's to disparage the Fort Wayne semi-state as much as possibly can. Why not compare to New Castle or East Chicago?
The Mooresville regional had 6 champs, 14 in the top 4, and 21 total placers. Fort Wayne had 3 champs and 12 in the top 4. New Castle had 4 champs and 10 in the top 4. East Chicago had 1 champ and 10 in the top 4. The rest of Evansville had 0 champs and 2 in the top 4.
Yet here we are trying to make the Fort Wayne semi-state look bad.
I guess we won't get any respect until we win all 14 weight classes!!!

So here's another example I was looking for--It sounds like Easton "Managed" his weight rather than focussed a ton on cutting.
Other the the initial "cut" which for him is not really a cut about 152 to 144. For him cutting is just eating better and wrestling. Getting around the knee surgeries when all he could do is lift pushed him a little. He cut big his freshman year and it really hurt him late in the season.

*This decision to go 175 was based on focusing on getting better at wrestling and not fighting the scale. I think you answered your own question. Weight management is the key in my opinion, I'd rather focus on getting better: especially as a senior. Get fat and happy and improve your technique, position and mindset.
Good call on the MINDSET General!! Believe in yourself, your training & your technique!!

Easton was usually 1-2 lbs. under Thursday-Friday. Eating 3 times a day through the week. Pick a weight, like you said Nick, that you can concentrate on getting better at wrestling and not loosing weight. Made the most difference in Easton's success this year. It does take some discipline on both the wrestlers and parents, but meal prepping was also a huge part of it. We would cook all his meat (chicken, hamburger, steak, pork chops) on Sunday or Monday for the week and he would pack it for his lunches and take to school.
So many little things go into being successful and these are just a few. It takes time also, this has been something me as a father, his mother and Easton have been trying to dial in for a few years now.

One of the most fun things about watching state is seeing those jaw-dropping moments where we realize a kid is WAY better than we expected.
You guys know this: if a kid comes from a school that doesn't wrestle a tough schedule, it's so hard to gauge how good they really are or how much progress they've made from the previous season. Most of the time, those shiny undefeated records from a weak schedule get exposed at semi-state and state. But once or twice a year, our jaws drop and we go, "Oh, crap. Kid leveled up. Dude's for real."
For me, there were 2 kids like that this year: Easton Doster and Noah Weaver
Neither of these guys was new on the scene. And both had some off-season success that could have suggested an upward trajectory. But there were other guys with glossy records like them, too, who turned out to be on a "regular" trajectory of slightly better than last year once they got thrown in the fire.
But when Doster hit that insane low single on Courtney that he could have hit on most D1 starters, it was an, "Oh crap. Dude's arrived" kind of moment. Then to see how slick he was both on attack and on defense the rest of that match on through the final against someone like Walker was super impressive. He is SO athletic and sharp and slick. Wow.
And Noah Weaver? Holy Andrew Howe, Batman. That kid's got some pace and heavy hands and hips and an engine that do not stop. Geez! To go from getting smashed by fellow underclassmen Cashman and Costello at 170 at semi-state and state in 2023 to being a 190 that runs circles around #2 McConnell and leads wire-to-wire over nationally ranked and Indiana #1 Henry? WOW. "Leveled up" would be the understatement of the weekend.
Mad, mad props to these two. It was so fun to watch them this weekend. Can't wait to see what they do next.
Thank you for your kind words. Easton has been working for this since he was 5. Watching his big brother in high school & at Wabash college, learning and studying how the college guys do it at such a young age made him aspire to be the best. He is still hungry and will continue on this wrestling this summer and improving to defend his title!!

He was fun to watch and I loved his semi-final celebration. Taking off the headgear and chucking it from 15 feet away into your coach's nuts is the stuff legends are made of.
Funniest thing I have seen in a long time
That was Older brother’s nuts he hit!!! For all those times in the garage during Covid on the 10X10 Mat!!!

Zar Walker vs Ethan Doster for the Title tonight.
After reading this thread, I'd say the OP was spot on and a whole bunch of people were wrong big time. I think only one or two replies mentioned Walker and I didn't see any mentioning Doster at all.
Just goes to show, there are no absolutes, but there is a lot of empty bravado and hot air on a message board.EASTON DOSTER…stay under the radar & Keep wrestling!!

I believe you are correct. The public seats will be released with the non purchased parent tickets to the masses at 10AM.
