This is complete false assumption.  First these boys wrestled ALL OUT.  A lack of points does not meet lack of skill, exactly the opposite.  Some really great scrambles to keep the score low.  Additionally, I know for a fact that they did not know about the Walker boy forfeiting until after the match.

    Read Maligned’s reply above please.

  2. Justice,

You have gained many new fans tonight (unintentionally I’m sure), including me.  You have had the advice I give to all high school athletes to “not peak in high school” built in to your very nature or is it the nurturing from your terrific family. Either way you will have great success in whatever you decide to do. Congrats in advance!

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am wrong cause I ran through it pretty quick, but based on the rankings, below are the highest possible ranked matchups for Friday night at each weight.

    106 - #3 Chundi v #6 Bailey

    113 - #3 Schoeff v #4 Anthony

    120 - #2 Bettich v #7 White

    126 - #2 Dalton v #6 Pierson

    132 - #3 Cottingham v #4 Egli

    138 - #1 Boarman v #2 Bailey

    145 - #4 Fiechter v #5 Cruz

    152 - #2 Kervin v #3 Hall

    160 - #4 Noehre v #5 Pettigrew

    170 - #3 Ruhlman v #8 Harrington

    182 - #2 Winner v #6 Parker

    195 - #3 JD Ferrall v #8 Street

    220 - #4 Crider v #7 Stewart

    285 - #5 Parsons v #8 Erb

At 182, surely Walker being a four seed ranked #1 could draw someone ranked higher than 7th?

Any idea what Nathan Willman of North Posey actually weighs?  He pinned his way to SS Championship and there is no way he is close to 220 soaking wet.

He didn’t start bulking up and increasing is calorie intake until after team state where he went 195. I’d say good strategy by he and his Dad. Can’t be much over 205 if at all.

It was 7-2, but what's the difference?  You beat me by about 3 seconds on this one!   ha ha

Gilbert was really impressive today, handling Cheaney Schoeff in the semifinal as well.

But a tight ticket rounder against Castle’s Sutton.

  6. Does it really matter?  If only four advance to SS from Regional and there is a very lopsided Sectional, you are still

giving the top four from the stronger sectional opportunity to finish top four at Regional.  Or is the argument that the fifth place finishers at the stronger sectional could make Regional if in the other sectional?  That’s a weaker argument IMHO to shaking up sectionals.

I’m not an MD but that’s insane you lose consciousness and already cleared.. Hope he doesn’t have any issues down the road with this. Second Impact Syndrome or Post-Concussion Syndrome is real folks.

You are right on Takeyoudown. I hope the Memorial Wrestling program and training staff and more importantly this young man’s family take this very seriously and have him checked out thoroughly this week. I’ve been there done that.  They will have to live with the choice(s) they make this week. Good luck and God’s speed.

Saw him wrestle a couple weeks ago.  Good talent for a Frosh.  What is his record this year.  If any loses, who were they against?

yes. He looks the part too. Eli Dickens in his weight class is the only negative down here in the dirty south.  That match wasn’t close and will happen again Saturday. Plus he has an excellent partner in the room in Deters so you know he’s improving this year.

Any predictions?  Or is it always the time since Mater Dei will run through the tournament?  They might only lose 2 matches the whole day.

I think you have 1-3 decent finals matches from all other teams combined against MD from 106-182.  Central probably wins 195. 220/285 snoozers.

My thoughts on day two in person...

106- Lots of good little guys. I can see all of them at the state finals.

126-Alstott with a HUGE win over Lowery. He looked good. The finals match was awkward with all the blood time. The Konderhandt kid from Illinois is a stud and will contend for an Illinois state title. Very tough weight class with Lowery only beating the Tennessee kid 4-2 in a close match. Hayhurst has a lot of potential. He took 5th.

138- Conway impressed me today. Kid had two solid wins and nearly pulled off the upset of Boarman in the finals.

145- Viduya looked consistent. He came from behind in the 3rd period to get the win over the number one ranked kid from Tennessee.

152- Kervin and Frejie will both be at the state finals and both should place. Good match.

170- Sollars looked good. I was impressed by him and his ability to ride.

182-Parkinson was winning the match until the third. Then Ervin sort of took control. Good rivalry.

195-Eason is a tough wrestler. I look for him to punch his ticket to state. He is currently unranked in the state.

220- WOWZERS... WILLMAN  N. POSEY just got noticed. Where has that kid been? Looks to be about 6'3 195lbs wrestling 220lbs. He can ride well. He was getting beat the whole match and comes from behind to win. He kept his composure and poise. He's something like 24-0 now.

    Willman walks around at 195.
