  1. I've said this before and will echo it once again.  Maybe I'm on a limb on my own, but....

In a tournament with no wrestlebacks, and results determining bracket placement for the next weekend, chopping off a minute in the 3rd/4th Place matches may be the dumbest thing ever! These matches could ultimately determine who the state champ is next weekend, yet they are treated the same as a 2nd round consi match in a 64 man bracket.

“Henderson’s season lives on SOLELY because of the sportsmanship of Brownsburg”? BS! Henderson was dominating Haines in that match, and a slam should’ve never been called in that situation to begin with.  C’mon! That’s a ridiculous statement & an absolute insult to Henderson.

"Never should have been called" - Agreed

But that it irrelevant to the comment.  It WAS called and it could have ended differently, so the statement you so protest over is factual. Nor does it insult Henderson in any way.

Would and should are two different words with different meanings.

maybe heartbroken for his kid that just wrestled his last match.

    Geeez

I'm not sure there was much happy for anyone with that match.

Relief on MD's part for Henderson, stress for Coach Schaefer not knowing whether his wrestler would be DQ'd on a questionable call, seeing a wrestler hurt on the mat and his son wrestling at the same time on a different mat.  And Coach Snyder disappointment and a heavy level of concern.

I do believe the result was the correct one based on the match itself.  But no one can be happy seeing Haines needing to be carted off.  Just a tough situation all the way around.

  4. Happens every year. A mat or two will be on mute most of the day.

I just wish someone would close the curtains or pull the shades.  Mats 2 & 3 have some serious glare making it difficult to make out much detail.  And Mat 1 could use a bit of a zoom, as it is farther back than the other mats.

I have never watched online before.  We always go, but plans changed.   So you just have to keep up with matches on Track and then switch to whatever mat right?

Yes, just be careful, the video feed is usually behind, so you'll see things happen on the Track Dashboard before it's on video.  If you don't want a spoiler on a certain match, ignore the dashboard.

Also, if using Flo (IHSAATV may be the same) you can use the Flo App.  I currently have The Flo App on 2 TV's and two other mats pulled up on my laptop.  I switch mats according to the matches.

Snyder also loses in the quarter finals & needs his opponent to win his next match to be pulled into repechage.

Snyder moves in as Tazhudinov takes out Sadulaev.  Who thought neither Snyder nor Sadulaev would make the Final?

And unfortunately, a takedown with 5 seconds left keeps Nick Lee from the possibility of medaling.  And on the opposite side of the bracket, Sebastian Rivera makes the Final.

  7. Nick wins his 2nd match with a fall over Austin Gomez.

Lee with a takedown and two exposures on a gut to take a 6-0 lead.  Gomez comes back with an exposure off a head pinch and gets a step out. Lee had it and got a little sloppy the last foot as he was walking him out and Gomez ends up getting the point, holding a toe in as they both went out.  Lee 6-3 at the break.

In the 2nd, Gomez tried to work his usual Greco style throws 3x.  Twice, both wrestlers went to the mat, yet neither scored and the 3rd time, Nick got the best of it, controlled Gomez on the way down and took him straight to his back, where he got the fall.

Lee now faces Jalolov of Uzbekistan in the 1/8 Round.  Jalolov finished 1st at 2018 & 2019 Cadet Worlds and 2022 U20 Worlds.

  8. Nick Lee on Mat B right now (4:14 am central)...  Originally assigned to Mat C and switched.  OR, the text I got about Mat C was just wrong.

Lee wins his first match 6-0 over Poland.  The 65kg bracket is full of Americans or college wrestlers competing for other countries.

Austin Gomez - Mexico (Lee's next opponent)
    Josh Finesilver - Israel
    Colin Realbuto - Italy
    Sebastian Rivera - Puerto Rico
    Lachlan McNeil - Canada

  9. For those that don't follow women's wrestling that much, Sarah Hildebrandt has made 5 Final X appearances and has yet to give up a single point!  She posted wins of 8-0 and 11-0 today to earn yet another World Team spot.

Kayla Miracle also swept her 2 matches, 6-1 and 10-3 and earned another WT spot.

Mason Parris looked much better in his first match against Gable S. but couldn't break through, losing 6-2.  He wasn't overwhelmed, but there was really never a time you felt like Steveson was in peril. His 2nd shot is coming up.

  10. I do think Nick has a chance, but he'll have to be at his best.  Duh!   My guess is Yianni finds a way, but am rooting to be wrong.

The crazy thing about Mason and his lack of success against Gable is the styles.  Against every one else, Mason is quick, explosive and very strong.  Against Steveson he looks slow and weak, like a completely different wrestler.  Credit to Gable for that.

On a slightly different topic....   How would Gable be looked upon right now if he took Silver at the Olympics rather than Gold.  There is a very real argument to be made that he should not have won and the referee erred in that match.  Freestyle doesn't allow for you to just let a guy up and give up par terre position. I'm not trying to undo history, but I think it's fair to wonder "what if".  Would he have come back to wrestle at the next Worlds?  Would that have changed his college decision?  I certainly don't know the answers if there even are any...

I think the best Folkstyle wrestler is Nick Lee.

Micic was ranked #2 in the nation before moving up to 141 where he was a 24 seed at the NCAA tourney. The rest of the world wrestles freestyle though… and Micic was 3rd best in the world.

3rd or 4th, since their are 2 bronze medals awarded.  Personally I think that's stupid, but they don't ask me and it's done in boxing (and other sports?) as well.

Now cue up the replies that make it out that this means I'm against Micic and biased for Nick Lee.  Facts aside, of course...

That's because you support Mater Dei so you want the criteria to favor your wrestler.  You don't determine the rules. The World .knows Amine.  There is a World beyond Evansville.  Olympic Medals count to everyone.  Ask a random kid would you like to win 2 NCAA Championships or a World Medal as an adult? You already know the answer.

You're full of sh*t.  You have no idea what I think, other than to fail to read and interpret what I say incorrectly.  To bring MD into this means you had a preconceived notion of what I think.  Sadly, it's not accurate.

I don't think so.  I think it is unlikely he would have made the US team.  Props to him for doing whatever he could to get to worlds.  he made the most of it, but I think he's a good ways down the ladder in the US.  IMO, that works against him.

That's my thing.  No disrespect to Micic, but he made the Worlds doing an end around of sorts.  There is little to indicate he makes the World team wrestling for the US.

That doesn't discount what he did, but it has to be factored in.  I don't know how many times they mentioned Myles Amine being an Olympic medalist.  Great accomplishment, but he wouldn't have even been top 3 in the NLWC room.  You have to recognize that and account for it accordingly.  Kudos for winning the medals, that's awesome and should be recognized.  But to go into the best ever discussion, I find it hard to be in the discussion for best all-time status, using World's/Olympics, when you weren't likely the best from your country.

Only if we allow you to determine the criteria.  Middle school career trumps elementary.  High School trumps middle school.  College trumps high school.  The Olympics trump college. That's the ultimate goal.  And 3 world  senior teams?  I hate Ohio State but Humphreys is the overall Indiana GOAT.

Holy crap, we agree on something!
