  1. Remember guys this is my home town and I have put the appropriate authorities on alert to keep a close watch on you two!!
  2. "He had a little bit of control ". Is that like saying " she is a little bit pregnant ?"
  3. Earlier this year I was officiating a match and wrestler had a kid in a headlock. When it turned potentially dangerous I stopped the match and gave the wrestler his 3 points. The coach called me to the table and I pointed out that it had turned potentially dangerous he said that he agreed with the call TOTALLY! But that if he did not call me to the table then he would have to deal with a mother up in the stands. I asked him if I should just stand there for a minute then shake my head NO! He said absolutely that would work, but as I went back to continue the match I could not stop laughing.
  4. I can answer the 1st question. The 2lb allowance is for the weight of the singlet and shoes combined. Wrestlers cutting weight is always going to happen. We had 5 scales working We weighed in all the wrestlers in about 45 minutes ( skin check, medical paperwork and weight check) the "regular way" all the extra clothes and bags,( and space for these items) wrestlers changing out of their singlets would have taken at least 3x's as long making the tournament last that much longer. Glad overall it was a good day for you
  5. The 1st year that the rule changed requiring all wrestlers "must wear proper undergarment" we were starting weight ins and the 106lber was jumping around all anxious to weight in. He was wear a rather thick pair of long basketball shorts (getting ready to drop them and weight in in the buff). We explained to all wrestlers the new rule of having to wear the proper undergarments he turned around to the next wrestler and said "quick give me your underwear". I guess that's when you know who your real friends are
  6. Outstanding job men. I was nice to see the Indiana kids there with all the smiles on their faces. Great job coaches and parents you can be very proud of your young men. As officials we talk in great length among ourselves about the teams, the coaches and the wrestlers on all the teams. I saw some very bad sportsmanship from some of the wrestlers, coaches and parents. But I did not see that with any of the Indiana teams. I also did not hear of any issues regarding an Indiana team. Every one involved with these teams should be very proud of young men. Again great job. Dan Feser
  7. I believe they are February 21 and 22 ???
  8. Some high school coaches invite parents and have officials at their wrestle-offs at the beginning of the season. The officials go over rule changes with the parents and wrestlers and are willing to answer any question a wrestler, coach or parent may have. There is also an Ask The Official message board where you can ask about rules interpretation. The state rules interpreters will try and do their best to answer your questions. And they are very good! ;D
  9. The official is in charge of the match not the assistant. He never signaled a takedown, therefore there was no locked hands and henceforth no "bad time"
  10. A wrestler asks for an injury time out. The referee HAS to give it to him. The official does not know if he is injured or is just needing a breather. They cannot judge this at this time. I guess you would want all referees to attend medical school first before getting thier striped shirts.
  11. Ben Davis switched sectionals (Avon), regionals(Moorseville) and semi-state (Evansville) and when the two teams had thier dual Moss did not wrestle.
  12. Shaking coaches hands or not shake hands- this is not the showing of sportsmanship. How one handles himself on or off the mat is sportsmanship (or lack there of.) Rules (and tradition) of wrestling are shaking hands between wrestlers before and after that match. Shaking the opposing coach’s hand is not mandatory. In fact, in Iowa at a high school match it is a penalty to shake the opposing coaches hand, they call it taunting. Please Indiana lets not take it to this level. :

    Slamming

Tell this to the parents of the wrestlers who went to the hospital. In both these cases the " slammed" wrestlers were clearly overmatched.

    Slamming

This week I witnessed two different slams on the mat. They were in the 182lbs and 220lbs weight classes. In the 182lb match the ?slammed? wrestler was severely overmatched and ended up with a possible concussion. In the 220lb match the ?slammed? wrestler was already behind 9-0 and had to be taken to the hospital with a neck injury. It also possibly cost the team (of the wrestler that did the slamming) the win in the dual meet. Both wrestlers lost the matches for their teams when it was totally unnecessary! Remember wrestlers Rule 7 Article 1 ?A slam is lifting and returning an opponent to the mat with unnecessary force?.
  15. One day at weigh ins a few wrestlers had not shaved their face. When the official told them they had to shave they complained asking "why do we have to shave?" The official explained to them "because it is the rule." "If you do not want to go by the rules today that would be fine" " TODAY THE FULL NELSON IS LEGAL !! That official was the late great John Schnattner. Thank you John for putting things into the proper perspective.
  16. http://www.ihsaa.org/dnn/Officials/Licensing/tabid/572/Default.aspx We need officials. If it is that easy take the test
  17. Before we jump on the officials take a real good look at the tape again. The clock on screen does not seem to match the board clock. at :59 seconds into the tape the board shows :00 in the clock. Therefore which is correct? Maybe the escape was the right call after all. ???
  18. The hwt wrestler from from Columbus East really had a gutsy performance. He had hurt his elbow earlier and was wearing a slight brace. In the semi-final round he started wrestling and reinjured his elbow again. He was up 2-1 when he had to default. He was in tears due to the pain and could not continue. He came back in the final round and won by fall. Truly a gutsy young man. Please someone post his name and let's give this young man the credit that he deserves. GREAT JOB!
  19. How do they wrestle 6 rounds? You are only allowed 5 matches per day??
  20. Way to set the record straight Coach. Nobody I repeat NOBODY should have a problem with whoever is wrestling. It is too bad that most school cannot fill a JV team and therefore there are not that many matches for them. Give the kids all of the mat time that they can get, it is better for the sport and better for the kids. Let us not forget it is supposed to be about the kids that do wrestle?
  21. I have refereed for the Indiana Deaf School. Check with the referee and find out how he starts that matches (whistle and hand signals simultaneously) and ask him if you can move up and down the side of the mat to give instructions to your wrestler. It is more complicated than you think. Good Luck
