Jayruss reacted to MUSKEEWRESTLER in Best Indiana Native high school, college wrestlers in the last 50 years
Still believe it will end up being Mendez when he is done. He is building a Very strong resume and is really just getting started.

Jayruss reacted to GenHeavyHandz in Is Indiana The Heavyweight Mecca Of Collegiate Wrestling?
When you see Davidson from Michigan and Chesterton in the finals after Mason Parris just won it. Gable was born here. Streck just won his second D2 title. Greg Wagner was a 3 time AA. Tony Vaughn was an AA. Hartleroad already has won U16's. Can we say that we produce the best Heavy's in the Country?

Jayruss reacted to ReformedPoster in Indiana's ideal best college line-up this year
Boarman over Rooks. Boarman did win the head to head match up this year.

Jayruss reacted to Thor in Indiana's ideal best college line-up this year
125 - Christian Mejia
133 - Cayden Rooks
141 - Jesse Mendez
149 - Graham Rooks
157 - Brayton Lee
165 - Johnathan Kervin
174 - Brody Baumann
184 - DJ Washington
197 - Silas Allred
285 - Lucas Davison
Mostly our D-1 guys, but there were a couple that could be starters on that list that are already behind studs. Blubaugh and Streck would be good starters for this team if we didn't already have Allred and Davison.

Jayruss reacted to Indianawrestler145 in Mendez vs Tsirtsis style wise
I felt like Jason wrestled a much slower pace and more defensive style when he go to college, I remember him being pretty fun to watch in highschool. But pretty boring in college. Still one of the greats!
Mendez is a point scoring machine!!

Jayruss reacted to maligned in 2025 Title Contenders
I don't have the credentials to pull off the meme skills--but I was thinking this same thing. Only loss in two years is to Indiana's #1 pound-for-pound. Biggest jump in quality is often sophomore to junior year. Owns an in-state title and wins over nationally ranked guys in-season and out. I guess he's already old news.

Jayruss reacted to SIACfan in CA vs. IN
I agree 100%.
I have pointed this out many times over the years when people want to argue how good of a wrestling state California is. They are good, but it is more a product of how large their population is verses how good their wrestling truly is.
Below is a list of 2023 NCAA DI qualifiers by state per 1 million in population with total qualifiers in parenthesis.
1. Iowa 5.0 qualifiers per 1 million in population (16 total qualifiers)
2. Pennsylvania 3.5 (46)
3. Oklahoma 3.2 (13)
4. Illinois 2.5 (32)
5. New Jersey 2.5 (23)
6. Minnesota 2.1 (12)
7. Ohio 1.9 (22)
8. Missouri 1.9 (12)
9. Michigan 1.6 (16)
10. Colorado 1.5 (9)
11. Indiana 1.0 (7)
12. New York 0.9 (18)
13. California 0.5 (18)
14. Florida 0.4 (9)
As you can see in 2023 while California had 18 qualifiers verses Indiana's 7, Indiana did twice as good as California if you take into account population size.

Jayruss reacted to maligned in CA vs. IN
Yes, their depth of talent is very, very high. They don't have the "per capita" talent that we do. We're more of a "wrestling state" in terms of how many kids we develop relative to our population--but California's population is so gigantic. They produce a LOT of good kids.

Jayruss reacted to ReformedPoster in Chattanooga visits the Hoosiers
Boarman is quietly putting together a nice season. Chatt is showing his record at 16-4, with 4 MD, 5 TF and 4 pins. Interested to see how he does against a big 10 opponent.

Will we see an Evansville semi-state special--Boarman vs. Rooks--at 133?

Schaefer beat Rioux a few times, didn't he?
And Henderson beat Larocca.

Jayruss reacted to maligned in How would they have done?
The only thing I'll say about that is that we've only seen Veazy as a sophomore, too, and his jump up from already having been in tight matches with a killer like Orlando Cruz a year ago would be significant. And...the power output from Weaver that was a problem for McConnell and Henry might be slightly reduced against a fellow uber-athlete like Veazy. I'd consider dropping another $15 to watch Veazy-Weaver, though, I'll tell you that.

Jayruss reacted to TeamGarcia in How would they have done?
The way Weaver picked apart 2023 State Runner Up and a very accomplished wrestler and athlete that I known since he’s 4 years old in McConnell excellent defense wrestler . You don’t score very many points on that type of wrestler . When the ref raised his hand . I looked at Asa and said . Explicit word .WOW ! Where is Rossville ? Then Gunner who has very tight matches with Kaden this year UTB, scoring was a minimum and he does it again to him.
Gunner and Veazy are tight matches . I wouldn’t be surprised if Weaver scores same amount of points on Veazy . Matchups make or brake wrestlers . Weaver I think is a bad matchup for all 3 .
-
Jayruss reacted to maligned in How would they have done?
Past matches with Weaver wouldn't have mattered much since Noah's had such rapid recent physical and skill growth into what he is now. Still, it would be tough not to pick Veazy as champ if these 3 wrestled each other.
-
Jayruss reacted to TeamGarcia in How would they have done?
Not taking away anybody Wrestling Skill, Age, Grade .
For the Freshman at those weights I’d say Top 5 Placers . Hungry Seniors at that weight, Freshman either have to phenomenal athletes or absolute HAMMERS . Not saying it can’t be done .
Veasy … Top 3, Gunner and Veasy exchange wins and loses though out their careers . Would he beaten Weaver this year ? Idk, if they wrestled in the past or not .
