Appreciate you @Wrestlefan123! Needed something to hang in the Chatard room this week for some added motivation! 😏

Oh goodness, some random guy on the internet doesn't believe in a Chatard wrestler, call the police!

If you have to use messageboard banter to motive your kids it is already too late. Your kids should be motived by wanting to wrestle at the state finals instead of worrying about what someone with 4 posts thinks.

  2. It's always been that way, why change it now? It's a part of our history and the lore of wrestling. If we change it we will never have the topics such as the worst ticket round matches. No one here is smart enough to figure out cross bracket consolations with potential "blood round" matches.

It's the most exciting round, if we change to wrestle-backs then it's just a normal boring round of wrestling. I probably wouldn't even go to semi-state if they had wrestle-backs.

Just work harder and be the bad draw.

Life isn't fair, sometimes you're the hammer, sometimes you're the nail. Deal with it.

I won't lie I cannot provide rock hard paper facts here, but I absolutely have and am seeing it happen in sports around Evansville.   I have noticed it is happening at a much higher rate than when I went to school 25 years ago.   We can't sit here and say it isn't happening.  It is just the way things are done now.    I am not mad about it, but I think it is really cool when a school sports team has success with kids that didn't have to transfer in to get that success.

    1. It's easier to pinpoint kids that transfer, even if it's in middle school. Information travels fast and this social media thing is easy to be a detective.

    2. The IHSAA has had very little changes to their transfer rules over that time span. The changes are more in that parents/kids/coaches are playing the game more.

    3. It has been happening for a long time, likely more now, but it wasn't as easy to see or find proof.

    4. You would be surprised at the schools that have transfers on their team. Of the top 20 dual teams, I can spot at least 15 that have at least one kid most would call a transfer in their starting lineup.

Can not have a rule of MUST then have a loophole of $1 coaching staff to qualify someone as an employee that allows enrollment for kids outside of the district. It is a contradiction.

    And it is happening.

But it is also allowed when noone regulates it so, good for those that are operating within the rules that are currently in place. Let's not ignore that it is happening and contributes to the concentration of talent in a few programs.

It is up to each school district on what they allow as far as out of district students.

Not sure transferring totally falls under the IHSAA. That is a DOE issue. Pretty sure the rule is that as long as a family can provide transportation, they have open enrollment and choice of schools to attend.

However, IHSAA makes it easier by not regulating or simply ignoring the $1 coaching staff loophole which allows kids to wrestle on school teams when they do not live in the school district. Anyone want to discuss that🤫

Not all schools are open enrollment, there are MANY, such as Crown Point and Brownsburg that are closed districts in which you MUST live within the district to attend the school.

Most schools also allow employees of the school district to have their kids attend the school if they don't live within the district. What is considered an employee of a school can be different between school districts.

If a kid transferred 20 years ago it brought a ton of attention and IHSAA would conduct an investigation.   I know in the SIAC alone you see kids transferring in and out of schools every single year and no one bats an eye.   I guess it comes down to the voucher system as well.   It seems overall the state, the school corporations, the private schools, and IHSAA just let it slide much more now than before.   We can't sit here and say it isn't easier to transfer now than before.   It is literally happening everywhere.

What facts is this opinion based upon?

The IHSAA has had very little changes to the transfer process in the last 20 years.

Drew Waldon stepped onto the mat at the 2023 IHSAA State Finals as a 113-pound sophomore.

Now a 126-pound DeKalb High School junior, Waldon will be again be aiming for the state meet — this time Feb. 16-17 at the Ford Center in Evansville instead of Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis — when he represents the Barons on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Fort Wayne Semi-State at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Waldon’s first-round foe in the 16-man bracket is Norwell junior Jason Prough. It takes two victories at semi-state to place in the top four and qualify for the State Finals.

“I’m just trying to stay focused and disciplined,” says Waldon of his pre-semi-state practice week.

Waldon (28-4 in 2023-24 with two losses coming against Ohio foes in the Defiance Border War event on Dec. 28-29) is coming off a second straight Goshen Regional title on Feb. 3. This time around, he topped Wawasee sophomore Cameron Senter 4-2 in the finals. Up 2-1 going into the final period, Waldon allowed an escape then scored two points in the third period.

Again, I don't really care of the evenness, or Jay County getting good draws at other weights. It's just an observation about one weight at Fort Wayne in particular. Cause it's not 2,3,4 years in a row, it's now 10 out of 11 for that draw. Not saying anything about it's not random, or that they don't change anything, just maybe the draw button for this weight may be stuck.

Again like others you are focusing on ONE match-up and there is a likelihood of different brackets just with some common match-ups. In a perfect world you have a 1 out of 3 chance of "predicting" this one match-up in the bracket. Of the 12 bracket possibilities the JC #2 will hit the Carroll #1 4 times with each bracket having slightly different match-ups in other areas.

This weight you are talking about has alternated mainly two different brackets over the years and it just so happens both have C2 vs. A1 in the quarters in there. The main difference is who the first round match is against.

Yes, Jay County-2 drew Carrol-1 at 4 weights. But Jay County-2 drew Peru-1 & Goshen-1 at 5 weights each. So it was pretty well distributed.

Now I don't know how often certain weight classes draw other regionals, but there are only 3 possibilities so a certain weight drawing the same regional 2, 3 or even 4 years in a row is not going to be that uncommon.

Jay County 2's vs. 1's breakdown

    Carroll- 4
    Goshen- 4

    Peru- 6

If you had half a brain you would say the system is whack..keyboard on 💪🏻

What is whack about it? It's a formula, there are 12 possible different formulas that can be utilized.

If you select ONE specific match-up, it will occur 4 times out of those possible formulas.

I cannot express how much I enjoyed the table workers’ commentary during MS State. There was unpleasant language, some smack talk, coaching criticisms and much more.  One of my favorite moments was when a pleasant woman told the table workers that they could be heard on the stream.

Shortly thereafter, “we didn’t say anything bad did we?… I think this kid is going to do really well…”.

    Great stuff.

This must have been your first stream you watched.
