  1. I received word that my High School coach Keith Farrand passed away last Thursday April 20th at the age of 92. He had a major impact on my life and choosing to pursue a career in teaching and coaching wrestling. Mr. Farrand graduated from Purdue University where he also wrestled. He was a Physical education teacher and Head Wrestling coach at Indianapolis North Central for 27 years retiring in 1988. He had a record of 263 - 66 - 1. His North Central Panther teams won 3 Marion County Championships, 10 IHSAA Sectional Championships, 6 IHSAA Regional Championships and 2 IHSAA State Runner-Up teams. He coached 10 individual IHSAA State Champions. He served as an assisstant wrestling coach at Hamilton Heights High School after retiring from North Central. Mr. Farrand taught at Crawfordsville High School after graduating from Purdue and founded the Wabash College Wrestling Team. His first team at Wabash went 3-0 beating Notre Dame and Indiana Central twice. He was inducted into the IHSWCA Hall of Fame in 1976 and National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984. Mr. Farrand helped found the IHSWCA and served as one of the early IHSWCA Presidents. He was also a IHSWCA Billy Thom Award winner. Mr. Farrand attend 50 NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships and got my started attending the NCAAA Tournament which I continue today. I always looked forward to catching up at the NCAAs. Mr. Farrand's obituary can be found in the Indianapolis Star. I will miss him greatly. I'm proud to say I was one of Keith's Panther Wrestlers.

  2. I do think if someone can take you down four times in a row and you can't respond, you are the lesser wrestler in that match. Tired of seeing mat wrestlers play the odds and the flips. Doesn't work for most when the competition levels get higher.

  4. Answers in bold Will we see a college athlete compete 4 years for 4 different teams? No, still can only transfer for free for one year unless it's a grad transfer. Will a college athlete make more money in a single season than any pro athlete at his/her sport? Obviously for wrestling... it could be likely, but the reality is it will not be a lot. The biggest thing is this money is being taken from the RTCs which pay the athletes after college. What is really the point of wrestling a dual against Penn State this season - with their additions nobody will stand a chance to even keep it close. So teams roll out their backups, or else Penn State rests their starters for most of the duals and saves them for the postseason Don't blame them, Sanderson is doing what he's supposed to do, WIN! They have the best system and peaking performance in the country right now. It will be ugly come March. I do believe, however, that this may lead to the near-top tier wrestlers opting for other schools than the elite. What would be the point of committing (*REALLY committing - like planning to attend 4 years) to Penn State, only to have your spot in the lineup taken by a one-year transfer to "fill out their lineup" It depends on your goals, right now everyone is looking for portal pickups whether they are Penn State or Podunk State. It's being used and everyone is looking for a couple short term rentals. One thing you'll see is less of the grad transfers after next year as the COVID year is expiring. The extreme COVID year guys have two years left and after five years most will have a degree and potentially look for a grad year somewhere else.

  5. The wrestling gods heard my demands and then acquiesced to all of them in their great wisdom. Now i will cash in my remaining 3 years of eligibility and attend Ancilla or Thrine and win my National Title as a 52 year old who hasn't wrestled a competitive match since I'm 26. Disney movie here I come.

  6. 3 to 1, TD vs escape will only encourage more catch and release. It does nothing to incentivize working for a turn, which is supposedly the main objective behind the proposed changes.

I would much rather see a tech on the feet end more quickly than see someone be ragdolled.

  8. For a takedown, you score points inversely proportional to the difference in enrollments of the two schools Small school takes down big school = 6-8 points Big school takes down small school = 0.3 - 1.9 points Referees will have a wrist calculator and a small abacus attached at the waist with a bungee cord

  9. Obviously the dad of the kid who got punched , should have waited outside , and then beat up the other dad or gave it a shot . The only other option would be after the tournament , a father/son tag team fight should take place .

  11. I just want to make something abundantly clear. Do not go to Pizza King for pizza, only stromboli. That said I've never had a pizza from pizza king and I don't think I know anyone who has. If it is pizza you want there are plenty of other places but if it is stromboli then I say Pizza King.

  12. Pizza King Pizza is very average. Excellent Strombolis, however. For good pizza, go to Turoni's. it's tried and true with 3 locations. Evansville pizza is more typically like the thin Crust Chicago Tavern style, cut in squares.
