  1. I received word that my High School coach Keith Farrand passed away last Thursday April 20th at the age of 92. He had a major impact on my life and choosing to pursue a career in teaching and coaching wrestling. Mr. Farrand graduated from Purdue University where he also wrestled. He was a Physical education teacher and Head Wrestling coach at Indianapolis North Central for 27 years retiring in 1988. He had a record of 263 - 66 - 1. His North Central Panther teams won 3 Marion County Championships, 10 IHSAA Sectional Championships, 6 IHSAA Regional Championships and 2 IHSAA State Runner-Up teams. He coached 10 individual IHSAA State Champions. He served as an assisstant wrestling coach at Hamilton Heights High School after retiring from North Central. Mr. Farrand taught at Crawfordsville High School after graduating from Purdue and founded the Wabash College Wrestling Team. His first team at Wabash went 3-0 beating Notre Dame and Indiana Central twice. He was inducted into the IHSWCA Hall of Fame in 1976 and National Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 1984. Mr. Farrand helped found the IHSWCA and served as one of the early IHSWCA Presidents. He was also a IHSWCA Billy Thom Award winner. Mr. Farrand attend 50 NCAA D1 Wrestling Championships and got my started attending the NCAAA Tournament which I continue today. I always looked forward to catching up at the NCAAs. Mr. Farrand's obituary can be found in the Indianapolis Star. I will miss him greatly. I'm proud to say I was one of Keith's Panther Wrestlers.
  2. I haven't been on here for a while but here is my 2cents - I have been at Castle for 30 years and if you look at my scorebooks from 1984-85 until now you would see the same last names as 30 years ago To say Mater Dei recruits is crazy - I told everyone if we went to a team state tournament back in 1996 they would 10 out of 10- I was off by 1 To say they recruit is wrong- just a great program that we continue to try and get as good as- they are our measuring stick down here Don't be jealous - just keep working to be the best you can Funny thing is you never here a team from down here play the recruiting card We just keep working to get to indy
  3. Y2 - I would like to think any time an Indiana kid wins a big match it would be [*] [*] great news Your reply makes it sound like its not great news He beat a highly ranked kid and now has qualified for the national tournament Give him some credit You don't have to like me or castle but give our indiana kids some support Great job chad and all the INDIANA kids who qualified for D1 NCAA
  4. I think what throws the data off is if you don't have a 106 you can't move a kid up In the upper weights you can move a kid up It makes it look like you have a lot of big kids but not little ones The kids hurt the most are the middle weights In all our jv meets we were heavy in the middle but light in the lower and heavy weights We have a lot of good kids in the middle having to wrestle on the jv right now I think the weight classes need to be changed Just my opinion
  5. I was thinking - what if all the teams that went to team state sent there medals and rings back to the ihsaa - what would have happened ? Would this have changed the decision to end team state?
  6. The only problem with ending Friday about 3:00 is that for those of us who live three and a half hours away. There is no good solution to this. I'm in favor of a Thursday - Friday clinic: Thursday - morning clinician session 9-11 - lunch with business meeting 11:15-12:15 - afternoon clinician session 12:30-2:30 2:30-6:30 break to check in hotel, relax and eat dinner - evening session 7-10 rules meeting, round table, etc. 10:00 Coach's Social Could have the Thursday evening session and social at the host hotel like we did in the past. Friday - morning clinician session 9:30-11:30 This gives everyone time to get back for games and still have your weekend. I don't think Thur. evening/Friday or Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday will be well attended. I'll attend whichever format we go with, but I think Thur./ Fri. has worked out the best over the years.
  7. Here is how I take this- Rule 60, I think, says you have 18 points or dual meets you can replace these duals with tournaments, but no more than 7 that gives you 7 tournaments = 14 points plus 4 duals so if you have any combination of tournaments and duals that equals 18 that is your varsity schedule by rule 60 if you then wrestle your jvs at a varsity tournament or 2 varsity dual meets and then wrestle your varsity at another tournament that is more than the 18 points you were allotted for your varsity season. by the rule you can only schedule 18 varsity points with only 7 tournaments and 4 dual meets if you wrestle 18 varsity points and then add another tournament or dual meets that are considered varsity contest then you are in violation of both rule 50 and 60 as i read it. i read it if you are going to participate in the ihswca state tournament it has to be scheduled as part of your 18 points before the season begins which means you have to pull out of a tournament or 2 dual meets if you pull out of 2 duals you still have to have 4 dualls and 7 tournaments to equal he alloted 18 points so those teams participating in the ihswca team state tournament have to drop 1 tournament or 2 dual meets if they don't have 6 duals already in their schedule they have to drop a tournament they they are scheduled to participate in you can only have 7 tournaments to make up your 18 points i know some teams have wrestled jvs at a tournament the same weekend they wrestled their varsity this now be a way of the ihsaa stopping that because it could be considered over scheduling your varsity schedule it will be interesting to how this plays out i think the ihsaa had this in mind when the told us they were ending the team tournament and we could now hold our own team tournament what are the consequences of a team wrestling in the ihswca team tournament and having 18 points already on their schedule? Even if they wrestle jvs in the varsity tournaments or dual meets? that puts them over the 18 already allotted by rule 60. like i said this will be interesting to see how it plays out and we need to find out what the ihsaa will rule on this. they are taking the gray area out of this in my opinion you have 18 points for your varsity by the rule, if you schedule more than that you are in violation of rule 50 and 60 thats my take on this
