I drove to the IHSAA headquarters on meridian street in Indianapolis to inquire about Mr. Hughes. They had all the records on hard copy but they didn’t have anything in digital format. It appears as though there is an attempt to keep his accomplishments away from the public. The secretary watched me the entire time I was there and didn’t let me take pictures of what I was looking at. There is definitely an attempt to keep his personal wrestling accomplishments a secret. For what reason I don’t know.

Thank you for your service! You are definitely a bad axx in my book! Kyle Ayersman is probably top 5 all time high school wrestlers in Indiana and he’s giving you props. That’s awesome.

I’d like to hear what Joe Penick, Adam Doherty, Robert Rossbottom, Josh Stith and Larry Hazuga had to say about him. Im sure they’d vouch for his ability and character.

Please don't take this thread down. It has over 7,000 views and is being talked about by most of the Indiana Wrestling community. You made a good point that not everyone should remember the State Finals as someone's career but more all the other wrestling they did. All those tournaments and Conference Championships you won.

You will always be remembered as a Championship Caliber Wrestler in Indiana.

I’ve talked to multiple Indiana State wrestling coaches around the state about this topic. We each agree you were the best wrestler to never win a state championship. I’m not sure what you call that block that happens in the Semi-State ticket round but if it wasn’t there you would’ve been a 2-timer for sure. The accomplishments you had were outstanding. You are a true Champion Hunter Hughes.

That’s the state finals with Doherty and Rossbotton from Jeffersonville. Seems like 125 state champion could’ve been Hunter Hughes if the semi state bracket was redrawn. They would have 3 on top the podium. He already beat Mitch 3 times that year.

Good point. If Mitch is still competing he wouldn’t want his opponents seeing that match.

Hunter can you post the video of you and Mitch Robb wrestling at Regionals? A lot of people would like to see it.
