AJ
I know that the two semifinal losers in the team series each get 3rd place medals. I was wondering if they do this in other sports as well, or is it something that they only do in wrestling.

Y2CJ41
Its that liberal agenda just giving everyone a medal even though at least one of them doesn't deserve it.
AJ
wow, I ask a serious question the class wrestling supporters hijack it and turn it into another class wrestling thread or just make childish remarks. Nice...... I was wanting to know if they decided to give them medals because they didnt want the other two teams to wrestle for third and fourth. aoberlin
All joking a side, I am surprised they even give medals for 3rd.
oldbuckeye
AJ, doesn't the Coach's Association foot the bill for Team State?
AJ
AJ, doesn't the Coach's Association foot the bill for Team State? I am not sure. I am not sure on a few issues regarding team state and I tried to ask a queation and you see what that got me.

Merely trying to point out the silliness of the duck and run line of thinking. Don't take it personal.
BlueBolt
I am all for handing out First Place Medals to every team in the state the weekend prior to the opening of the Practice Schedule for the state. I say we reward everyone for a job well done before the work even starts.
infowrestling
I think it's an interesting question..............I know they don't play a 3/4th game in football. Do they in basketball? I don't understand the reasoning for giving 2 teams a 3rd place medal. I think they should either have them wrestle for 3/4 or eliminate the practice of giving medals beyond 2nd. bigdanteague
Our tournaments are about finding who is the best (according to Bobby Cox) so why do we give out any recognition beyond 1st place.
littlevito
Our medals from Team State said "Final Four"...didn't say third or fourth. And I don't think anyone else on the team cares if it said third or fourth. We were happy with what we got.
theckman
Don't they do that in the Olympics with boxing? BTW....I'm NOT a supporter of class wrestling. Just seems like every thread that starts on here ends up turning into a class wrestling argument. Just thought I'd beat everyone else to the punch this time. Wonder if the moderators would get involved......if a thread is started that has nothing to do with class wrestling, delete all comments that involve it (mine included). Not the best idea but its seems like some people want to express thoughts about it regardless of the main idea. KEEP CLASS WRESTLING POSTS OFF THREADS THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT

pin2win1
AJ, here is your first semi-serious answer to the question, Now i am somewhat young, and was about 15 when class basketball began, but if i remember correctly, back when baskebtall was just a 1 class sport they played two rounds at state. The two semi final games were in the morning/early afternoon, then at night they played the finals. I am almost positive that at halftime of the Finals game, both teams who lost in the semi-finals were recognized and given medals for their accomplishments. AC Computer
To get back to the original question: When basketball had a final four for the state championship the losers of the semi-finals got medals even though they didn't play a consolation game. Not sure if they were third place or finalist medals like Razo mentioned, though.
