  1. Get over it Vlink... sometimes you get the luck of the draw, sometimes you don't. Its the way the IHSAA tourney works at all levels. Is it fair that Mishawaka and Penn are in the same sectional when other teams who are not as good as either of those two teams make it to state because their road is easier? Nope, it isn't, but it is how it is. Maybe instead of worrying about where you finishes at team state, you should take some time to learn the rules.
  2. Well, if we do away with events because they do not effect enough teams. Lets first get rid of girls swimming state. Then we can just axe out 5 A football state along with wrestling team state.
  3. AJ... if a title is determined by your elite wrestlers, are you going to focus more on your elite than your other wrestlers? More than likely you are. Now if it is determined by all your wrestlers, are you more likely to focus on more than just your elite wrestlers? More than likely you are.
  4. so you only coach 5 year old kids? no 11-14 year olds? What about the freshmen and sophomores on your team? I find it more amazing that someone with your attitude coaches.
  5. I did not say you were not working at the kids level... i was asking... are u selling the possibility of a team state champion to those kids on the kid level? read much?
  6. BTW, maybe if your team isn't good enough this year, are you selling your future teams through your feeder programs and off season work outs that team state is possible. Penn didn't break the Mishawaka barrier in one year, nor did Mishawaka break the Penn barrier in 1 year earlier in the decade. It took quite a few years. Also no one broke the MD barrier for many years, but you didn't hear anyone of the top programs whining back then. I am starting to come to the conclusion that the biggest difference between the top programs and Garrett is not the school size, but the attitude of the coaching staff.
  7. its that quote that makes me believe you aren't selling him on winning too well
  8. team state wrestling does not have the tradition that basketball has. More people are nostalgic about basketball and are upset about the classing of it. I don't think we will have the same issue with team state. Now, people are nostalgic about individual state, and that would draw similar criticism as the b-ball tourney.
  9. darn i guess we were all stupid on our football team when we believed our coaches when they said we could beat penn in football.... dang.... maybe you could atleast sell to your kid "hey you can win this match" and then if he wins it sell him that he can win the next match. Maybe then the next one. Once remember a story from a softball coach who had a girl pitch who never pitched before, he said "Hey i need you to give me one good inning" she went out and did it, then he said "i want another good inning" she did it... in the 4th inning she finally had a bad inning and she was upset, the coach went out and said "hey, its ok, i asked for one good inning, you gave me 3." Point is maybe you should sell him success match by match, rather than just say "heck he probably won't get out of the rattail."
  10. busco, under y2 philosophy, which states that the best championship format will have the most variety for champions and contenders, a coin flip would be the best.
  11. It's only watering it down when you class it despite everyone having the same chance of winning. And in individual state everyone whether they are from a small school or a large school has the same chance. Size means nothing. However it is not watering it down when schools do not have the same shot at winning. And lets face it smaller schools are at a disadvantage for team state. Unless you are MD that is. And i bet they would have one class under the spot light at a time.
  12. Umm, lets see then why have him wrestle... gonna lose anyway. Does it matter how much I have coached? Because what i do know is that i never had a coach not try to sell me that i could be successful, or any educator for that manner. Sorry, your attitude sucks y2. really? Ask your BFF about Mishawaka before the team state series. I can guarantee he will tell you that Mishawaka has never ever ever had a solid team from top to bottom like they have had over the last 10 years at any other point in his lifetime. And i have also never seen Penn with a team that is as good as they are from top to bottom as they were this year
  13. never seen it, sorry... what movie is it?
  14. First off, in this situation it is not watering it down, because as a team small schools are at a disadvantage. As far as your spot light comment goes. Yeah you're right, that is tough, cause they have a hard time playing all 5 football games at the same location at the exact same time.
  15. gonna have a real hard time doing that unless you change locactions y2... BTB closed on lincolnway just 2 or 3 weeks ago
  16. but there is a whole lot you can do to help or hurt your team
  17. Yes class it, cause it will make our state better. More coaches will have to focus on all their wrestlers instead of a few. That means there will be more solid teams and better competition for individuals who are not on solid teams, which means better wrestlers all around.
  18. well whether you admit it or not... that is an attitude of giving up, sorry y2. but are not those wrestlers from the other 290 schools getting better due to the fact they are facing better competition? Better competition equals better wrestlers. Better wrestlers means more respect for the state in the wrestling world.
  19. I would hope you'd agree... Cause i stole that argument from you hahahahaha
  20. did any of those 290 wrestle wrestler from the 20 teams? Yep, and guess what? They wrestle better competition, and wrestler better competition makes for better wrestlers. So even the 290 schools who never made it were able to wrestle better competition.
  21. My junior year, Penn kick our butts in the dual meet, and we lost our only senior due to a broken collarbone the same night. So you know what we did, we packed it up and didn't do much because we know Penn was way better than us, and that we had no shot to win sectionals. Oh wait, no we didn't i forgot, joe caprino wasn't our coach. No we worked out butts off, despite being totally humilated. Did we win? no, but did we enter the sectionals thinking we could only get 2nd place? Heck no, we were just as upset at losing the sectionals as we were the dual meet. Same with football, we lost about 49-0 to penn in the regular season. But guess what, we still showed up and believed that we could win in sectionals. Did we win? No, but atleast we gave it our all. But you can't give it your all if you think you can't win before the game or match even starts.
  22. thats an attitude of a loser right there..... with that kinda attitude from a coach, no wonder they never had a shot.
  23. You really are a selfish sob aren't you Y2, if it doesnt help you out why do it. I guess it is just easier to reformat the tourney so you can place higher than actually work to place higher. But wanna know why it was good. Because it raised the competition level on many teams. Look at Mishawaka and Penn for example. Before team state, both of these schools had lineups where they had really good wrestlers, and then some avg wrestlers, and even a few bad wrestlers. Why? because the main priority for a coach was to groom his best wrestlers to be good because the best wrestlers were what the team needed to place well or win a state title. Teams state comes along and boom! Now 3 or even 5 really good wrestlers no longer gets either of these teams a shot at the state title. It now takes A WHOLE TEAM! That means coaches have to not only groom their best, but also their average, and even their bad wrestlers. I mean look at the records on the program at team state. Not many .500 or worse records for any individuals on those teams (i counted 7 losing records for those wrestlers who were in the blue), all those teams were pretty solid top to bottom. So what does that mean? better competition throughout the state. And what does better competition mean? Better wrestlers as a whole. Now I am sorry that you can't see that, i really am. But i guess its easy to ignore that when you know your team has a better shot at winning through the other format. Like i said, absolutely selfish y2. You should be ashamed of your attitude.
  24. gstemv81, i believe that under current rules, Roach could only wrestle 145 or 152 no matter how much he weighed, since he was put on the sectional roster at 145.
  25. i could be wrong... but i believe there is a penalty for sending an ineligbible wrestler to the scorer's table is there not?
