1Team1Goal
If anything the results show that the talent in southwestern Indiana is on the rise just as much as it shows EMD is down compared to previous years. I thank EMD for setting a standard that the rest of the southwestern part of the state is finally rising up to meet.

BlueBolt
What has happened to MD. I know they are young this year, but there is something going on. Mater Dei is now, and will most likely always be, Mater Dei. Are they "down" this year? Well if this has been a "down" year, then I think most teams would KILL to have a "down" year. They are young, and learning, but they have a very able coaching staff and will undoubtably improve over the off season and come back with a vengance. If anything, this has been a wake up call for not only Mater Dei, but the states wrestling teams as a whole.
allyourbase
I have a love hate for MD. When I was a freshman 171LbR, I lost to a senior from MD for place 3rd or 4th in Semi state to go to state. Funny thing is I met that fella years later at a get together at Purdue. Karma. Oddsmaker
I just woke up from my 2nd nap today, old age is getting to me. I am a Mishawaka resident, fan, alumni, etc. But I am a huge Mater Dei fan (except when they wrestle us!) A down year for Mater Dei?? Maybe, but everybody saying that is like waving a toy in front of a rattlesnake. Great school, great program, great coaches. And NO, I don't think they recruit. For years that has been thrown around, and if you happen to visit Evansville...grab a phone book, and see how many of those "recruits" happen to have a sh$% load of relatives in the area. Remember the Weinzapfels?? Well I had the pleasure of meeting the Mayor of Evansville a couple years ago... Mayor Weinzapfel.
allyourbase
So they go to school just like the rest of us, correct? Nothing different, sports wise?
allyourbase
Though... I don't care what coach said, I would not have worn those UNIs. Red is nice, sure....

Oddsmaker
Hey, you know what I'm getting at! There sure isn't a lot of Weinzapfels up my way!! Politics aside, we had a nice chat about wrestling. Then that night (your Mayor not included) hit the Aztec. Didn't do well either!!

12andcounting
Mater Dei competed at a high level this year. They did beat Castle early on in the year along with Merriville and Reitz. If MD wins 140 and 160 against Castle last Wednesday (Appell pinning at 103) then they would be going to team state. Sometimes things do not always work out. I am sure they will be back on top soon. spiralride1
Oddsmaker, 1- I think you mean Casino "Aztar"...and just a heads up, don't ever waste your time going back. They have the worst odds IN THE WORLD and I'm being serious. 2- I TOTALLY agree with your phone book statement. You can also look up Goebels, Schaefers, Boots, Unfrieds, and well that list goes on and on. Point is MD's recruiting comes from the DEEP WEST-SIDE CATHOLIC ways of building a dynasty (no birth control) lol Sorry if that crossed the line a bit. But its the truth wrestling fans. For example, Jane and John are MD grads. Jane played volleyball and ran track, while John played football and wrestled. They meet, date, then mate, but not just once. They have a few and they all return to MD and the cycle continues. MD families seem to always breed 3-6 deep, and rightfully so- GOOD GENES! So MD will be back and you can take that to the bank.
