  1. Rumor is that Roger Goodell wants to move the super bowl to presidents day weekend. This has been the same weekend as the state finals. Dear Indianapolis, DO NOT HOST THE SUPERBOWL. Also this makes for a very eventful weekend. Thoughts?
  2. Yea … I only see (5) . (106, 113, 126, 132, 138) 285, was probably only one that caught fire in the State Series . Should he been ranked earlier ? Idk, gotta beat ranked kids to get ranked .

  6. I assume someone remembers hearing about this at the time: Cael Sanderson had very few of the matches of his 159-0 career where he didn't earn bonus points--and most were TFs or Falls. In his 40-match junior year in 2000-01, only 2 opponents held him to regular 3-team-point decisions--the legendary wrestler and fighter Daniel Cormier...and Penn true freshman and Lowell HS grad Marcus Schontube. In their match, Schontube took him down in the first period and got some decent riding time. He actually led 4-2 in the second period before the match went the direction of many Sanderson matches: with a lot of takedowns and opponent escapes. But because Schontube had built a little lead and shortened the match, he got away with only a 16-10 loss. A slightly annoyed Sanderson commented later about how the kid was "a funky dude" who scored "some goofy points." Ha! Interestingly, in Sanderson's freshman year, when he was still mortal and had seven regular decisions, he only beat Evansville Central grad James Brimm, 5-0. Also of note, the same year as the Schontube match, Sanderson owned a win over FW Dwenger grad Anton Talamantes. Talamantes, too, competed much better than the average Sanderson opponent by that time in his career, and "only" lost by major decision.
  7. Seems like a D1-Big Ten scenario for a lot of one or two-time state champs who get scholarships, but seldom or never see the starting lineup.
  8. Great analysis Spencer Lee is the best on the team at transitioning from his takedowns to his par terre. If he get on top, he's likely going to turn people multiple times. I thought he was a little cautious against Zou and got hit with a 4 pt move. From there, Spencer controlled him and the match. I'm very much looking forward to seeing him vs the top guys at 57 kg. He appears healthy and his gas tank seems good enough. A healthy spencer lee is a clear gold medal favorite. I'm of the opinion that just because Brooks beat Taylor, it doesn't make him the gold medal favorite. But he is a medal favorite. I think 86 is probably the "easiest" of the 6 weights as there were 2 guys (now 1) that were head and shoulders above everybody else. Zain will have his work cut out for him His draw will be a determining factor if he medals or not. Parris can and likely will medal, but Zare has taken over this weight and will be a huge roadblock to gold for Mason. Can he beat him, yes. Will he beat him? I'll say no. I think Snyder's gold medal days are behind him. He should medal, but I don't think it will be gold. Dake and Sidakov should meet in the finals. I think we get 5 medals, but maybe only 1 gold.
  9. Alrighty, I've waited all season for this, let's hear your predictions! I'll start, all in particular order. 106: Boyd, Moore, Ocampo, Fleshman Moore is looking really strong this year, I think he'll get Ocampo in a rematch! I am also gonna go out and say that Mora from Oak Hill may have a shot against Fleshman. 113: Bollinger, May, Salazar, Cooper May and Johns in the ticket round is gonna be a total barn-burner, and I'm excited to see a rematch between Bollinger and May! Not to mention that Hinkel and McIntyre are getting a rematch after a controversial call in the first round last year! 120: Korrect, Tishner, Raber, Douglas Tishner and Korrect tore the house down in the regional finals, with some close calls that could have sealed the deal for the match. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Korrect gets Tishner in a rematch. 126: Mosier, Rowles, Waldon, Love 132: Fielden, Lisner, Bradley, Stuffel 138: Wood, Carter, Dews, Chambers 144: Invested 150: Hagewood, Tuesch, Galvin, Jett Tuesch and Riddle in the ticket round, ouch. They are currently 1-1 against each other, I'm curious as to what may be the deciding factor here. Elkins and Galvin is also going to be interesting, I wouldn't be surprised to see this match go either way. 157: Betz, Warnock, Davis, Russell 165: Invested 175: Leech, Farnell, Russell, Detwiler Farnell is on a hot streak here, him and Russell are going to have a close match! 190: Cressell, Blair, Daring, Currie 215: Hinton, Henke, Martin, Duffy I'm curious about how Martin will do against Hinton. A decision against the returning state champ from Crown Point is something that can't be ignored. 285: Hartleroad, Cruz, Coolman, Hillman-Conley Lots of barn-burners in the ticket round here! Hillman-Conley and Dodson will be good, and Wurm vs Hartleroad may be close as well. Now remember, these are just PREDICTIONS! Hopefully no generic pot-stirrers get upset because I don't have their favorites making it out. I'm pumped to see who makes it out of these brackets!

  11. Had a team drop out. Any teams looking to get ready for Virginia Beach wanna fill the spot?
  12. This is certainly correct. Spencer Lee 57 kg - while Lee is only ranked #26 by the UWW, he is clearly a medal contender Zain Retherford 65 kg - while unranked at 65 kg, he is ranked #2 at 70 kg Kyle Dake 74 kg - is the #1 ranked freestyle wrestler in the world at this weight Aaron Brooks 84 kg - while unranked, he beat the 'Magic Man' David Taylor who is ranked #2 in the world for his spot on the team Kyle Snyder 97 kg - #2 ranked wrestler at this weight Mason Parris 125 kg - #3 ranked wrestler at this weight
  13. I feel for Coleman Scott, but you have to get yourself out of your own rut when you have an opportunity like like this. Another 15 years of classic Cowboy wrestling isn't winning any national titles. Taylor may flame out and suck as a head coach, (I don't think he will) but you have to take a big swing. For coaches, I heard it's Gillman and Jimmy Kennedy coming with him. Didn't know this, but Kennedy is his brother-in-law. He's looking for a heavyweight coach as well, and it'll probably be a big name. Recruiting could be nuts for Taylor. He obviously can't run M2 anymore, but the club will continue to run under someone he hires and he'll instantly have a pipeline to Pennsylvania talent. It'll be interesting if any Penn State guys follow him to OK State. Haines and Kasak were M2 guys. Now they can't just hop in the portal now and be eligible, but they both were looking at redshirt years so it's in the realm of possibility. And OK State can do some major damage this year yet on the national scene. Penn State still looms large as the heavy favorite, but OK State has a very good team put together for next year, and they seem to be the favorites to land Andrew Alirez and Wyatt Hendrickson from the portal. Their lineup could look like this going into the season. 125 - Troy Spratley, blood round finisher now getting Gillman to work with 133 - Cael Hughes, blue chip recruit coming off redshirt wrestling behind Fix 141 - Tagen Jamison/Jordan Williams, not sure if Williams can go down, but if Alirez does transfer in he's going 149. Both Jamison and Williams were national qualifiers 149 - Andrew Alirez, national champ as a possible transfer 157 - Teague Travis, round of 16 165 - Caleb Fish, transfer in round of 16 174 - Dean Hamiti, transfer in multiple time AA and national champion contender 184 - Dustin Plott, national runner-up now getting coached by DT 197 - Christian Carroll, no intro needed on this website 285 - Wyatt Hendrickson, two time third placer as a possible transfer Now two of those transfers have to happen, but if they do that lineup has potential to be awesome.
  14. We are hosting our team camp for the first time this summer! We are hoping to bring in new clinicians every year and continue to grow this camp into something special! This year we have 2 Indiana Legends coming in to do technique and drills for the first 2 days each day we will finish up with a team challenge or game! The last day of camp will consist of team duals!!
  15. VERY impressed by both of them. Lee was dominant except against the guy from China. Rutherford had to win 4 matches this morning to storm through repechage. Both have good medal chances. The whole men's team seems very, very capable of doing serious damage in Paris.

  22. I forgot about Valizadeh, he's probably the most promising given his age and will have to do until Khateri is old/good enough Khateri competed at 45kg around 10 months ago and he doesn't seem as big as Amouzad so I think he should be able to make 57kg (maybe with a big cut) Hopefully Sina Khalili can be our guy at 74kg. Khateri-Amouzad-Khalili-Yazdani/Ghasempour-Azarpira-Zare could be a solid 2028 FS team (let me dream lol).
  23. looking forward to the Pride of the Eastside coming to Franklin and bringing some fellas. Great night to scrap and learn from this young kiddo with a bright future ahead him. bring some teammates wrestling community. Great night ahead.
  24. Feels weird not seeing a Rooks in the IU lineup. They both had nice careers and were generally very reliable. Graham really turned it on later in his IU career. It's improbable for either state school to ever get a topnotch recruiting class. Money, the high talent level in topnotch programs' 'rooms', exposure...there isn't a lot of incentive to snub the big boys in favor of IU or Purdue, even if you're an Indiana native. IU and Purdue aren't getting our state's elite level recruits, which I realize isn't a new thing, but imagine if Angel Escobedo was a senior in HS right now. I highly doubt he hitches his wagon to IU in that scenario. I know I'm preaching to the choir--all of us Indiana/PU wrestling fans would love to field stronger teams, ideally with a majority of the very best high school guys from Indiana. Interesting to see if Taylor's hire impacts Carroll's performance next season. I could see the room at OSU overflowing with topnotch senior level talent in the next few years and steel sharpens steel.
