    I appreciate everyone’s input.

in all seriousness though, is asking a kid to “cut” from 131 natural weight to 126 really asking that much ?

you obviously can’t force them to but simply encouraging them to do so to reach their said “goals” and help the team?

you’d think this was legit child abuse the way kids and parents react to this seemingly simple request the last couple of years.

It really depends on what their body fat percentage is. If you are asking to cut 5 pounds before every match. Yeah that can be allot for some kids and if we are being honest. Just not that healthy and against the regulations put out by the IHSAA. Yes many kids are doing much more and many of them might be our place winners. Is what it is.

    113 Daring was a semi-state qualifier at 120.

106 Tun is in the state rankings and not the semi-state?

    126 Carter Krouse?

*not to mention at least one surprise?

Dodson and Russell just got a Chestie in Indy..........................................?

I've been doing my homework: and I know I'm biased but seriously?

Yep, those are the ones I was thinking of also.  Sectionals will be a good one this year.

I waited a week to be gracious and diplomatic: Kevon Russel from Fort Wayne Snider should be ranked at 157.  2X SSQ. Ticket rounder in an injury shortened season.  Had 4 losses on the season: 3 tough ones to Jackson Todd a 7th placer who graduated.  And 7-0 to Betz in the ticket round.  All after a meniscus tear during football season.  Has beaten guys that are ranked at the weight.

    +1 on Kevon.

Most wrestlers are not spring sport guys.

If there is immediately lots of support for something similar, why wouldn't wrestling have a similar North / South, Indiana / Kentucky or Area Code war, like basketball, baseball and football.

It would have to be done quickly after state, before the Freestyle season tournaments dominated the attention, time and schedule.

Maybe a it could be a Friday night Pre-tournament draw for a big Sat / Sun Freestyle tournament.

I would argue that the ones that would be chosen to compete in this event are mostly year round wrestlers. If your area doesn’t have enough year round wrestlers then you area code will not win this event.

  5. Here is what it gave me for the top 50, and it doesn't have Bellmont cracking the top 50 all-time teams. I think we are safe from ChatGPT taking over the world anytime soon. I'm not saying it will not happen, but at the moment Sam could do a better job with this off the top of his head with pen and paper.

One thing i know is that some of these higher tier schools have a ton of kids who should be brought up like this I think of Adam Guerra who was behind me and Josh harper for 3 years and came in as a SR and got 5th. Give them 2-3 years of Varsity comp and he could easily compete with high level guys but got one year to do so. Those kids are the real heroes who put their time in to help their teammates be the best they could be  and for just one shot for their own. And never once did those guys say something about it just kept busting their hump. So maybe not state champs but champion humans either way

This^^^^ I remember Bellmont would be like that. "Awesome I get to wrestle a JV kid" and then all of sudden you were doing everything you can to get them off your leg. The next year they would place. Good stuff.

Do they wrestle on one mat per weight class? I have a student wrestling, or at least registered at 141 that I am interested in seeing. I am hoping that they will be on one mat so I can see him. Brevin Cannon from Pike, He tells me that he is really good, and I just want to find out.

No. It would take too long. But they may keep wrestlers in a weight class on the same side of the arena.

Maybe not, but you must have forgotten that Terry stomped him in the semis in '90, by a major I believe.  So a healthy Terry would have been the big favorite in '91.  But hats off to Early, he was the champ in '91.

I heard Early was sick that day...... The games we can play.....  It's the past and it really doesn't matter except to us old losers that like to talk nothing but wrestling. Both were great wrestlers and I don't know about Terry now but I know Early is a great coach and still giving back to the sport.

No one was beating Eric Early that year.

This^^^^^^ Nothing against the Indy greats back in the day but the only thing they would have gotten that year was an Early crossface cradle sammwich. We understand we may be a little down right now but there was a time the SAC alone would have a couple State Champions a year. Don't try and compare today against the yester years.
