  1. Y2 the sectional brackets would just give me a better vision to see a route in predicting how many guys from the SAC go to state

Not all state level wrestlers go to state.

It really only matters if you can win your Regional. Other than that it doesn't matter at all if you get 2nd, 3rd, or 4th at Regional. It is just going to be luck of the draw. So knowing your Sectional should have no real bearing it is more important to know if the wrestler can win the Regional.

Now if what you are saying is you want to know what all wrestlers are in that weight class in the 2 Sectionals that feed into your Regional, I can buy that. But you should probably already know that.

Yes every year there are plenty of kids that belong at Bankers that will not go.

  2. Your results look a little biased.

Your bus and all of the coaches. Mixed messages from their school coaches and whatever you are telling them.

"We are trying to develop these wrestlers but there are road blocks. Some coaches in The SAC are telling thier kids not to listen to us. (Bus). Well some kids are not going to block thier head coach (Mixed Message) out even if they are telling them the wrong stuff. Read between the lines. We get these kids to a certain level and then they go back in thier rooms and get muscle memory from bad tendencies. (Mixed message) These coaches egos are so bad (Bus) they'd rather the kid lose than wrestle a more solid way and adhere to "our way." So until this pattern changes I can only guarantee they will get better. The only podium trips will come from those who believe like Davis from Wayne, Omar from Wayne. "

6 references to yourself in the last post make me worry that it is more about you than it is the kids.  Just some observations from the outside looking in.

I didn't read this before I made my post.  This can be concerning and something that needs to be watched out for.  Another reason a true system has major advantages over what you are trying to do.  "All coaches on the same page".  You can't tell your kids that their current high school coaches don't know what they are doing. This does nothing but cause tension between you and the coaches and confusion with the wrestler.  It is like a bad cancer and does more harm then good.  A wrestler has to believe in the system they are in.  There is no room for doubt when a big match comes down to the wire.  Your technique or the technique that is coached in the club is not the only technique out there.

  3. Of course. What I really meant was we, and by we I mean our club, has many individuals who can beat or can compete with Carroll. Our club members belong to schools all over the conference and in small towns surrounding our city. The reason I made the aforementioned statement is because next year will be the 4th year for some of our wrestlers and I believe they will be able to compete with anyone. I know a couple years ago I made some bold predictions and some of them came to fruition. Those guys I worked with for an offseason. These guys have bought in and are harder workers. We will get them there. Karl Hungus said thier is no "real" club with influence in Fort Wayne. We shall see if that is true after this offseason. We intentionally laid low until we got these guys up to code. We have developed an elementary and middle school team. We are coming.

Not sure what era you are from as far the SAC is concerned.  But I am guessing from back in the day when they would produce 1 or 2 state champions a year.  (80s and early 90s)  There are a ton of reasons the SAC has fallen off the map in the last 15 to 20 years and I don't think the coaches have caused it.  I also believe that once the SAC was no longer a producer the Fort Wayne Semi-State became the bottom of the barrel.  In my opinion we are all on the same team except for when we compete with each other.  I know when I go to State I rooting for anyone from our semi-state and always want to see us do good.

I am glad you guys have a club and are working with kids from the surrounding area.  The bottom line is that you are fighting an uphill battle.  Carroll and other systems have major advantage over what you have put in place.

    1. All the kids are trained in the same system so the same technique should be reinforced.

    2. Middle school programs that compete against other schools and start in 6th grade.

    3. A room full of training partners when they are at the high school level.

    4. Iron sharping iron through out the year in the practice room.

    5. Coaches that help at all levels.  Elementary, Middle School, and High School.

These are just a few examples that I can think of off my head.  I am guessing here but I would imagine you have seen some of the kids in the club wrestling really really well during the club season and at the beginning of the wrestling season, but at the end season the gap gets closed between them and some of the kids they beat early in the season.  This is not a knock at all to their current coaches but just the true battle you are fighting when those kids are no longer competing with those same kids in the room.

Here is a list of things that I am hoping help the FW Semi-State and the SAC wrestlers.

    1.  Clubs like yours.

    2.  Indiana Tech doing so well and those wrestlers coming back and coaching and helping

    3.  Wabash College doing so well and those wrestling coming back and coaching and helping

    4.  Manchester getting a new coach and trying to put them back on the map.

    5.  Carroll and Homestead joining the SAC and possibly adds more depth to the conference.

Things that would be great to see for your youth program to help the SAC in general.  Elementary school dual team.  Middle school dual team.  High school coaches helping with those teams as much as their time permits. I realize for almost every coach they don't do it for money but for the love of the sport and the kids.  The time commitment is always a huge thing.  I can never fully help out with the High School team because it just takes way too much time and my business and family would suffer. High School coaches have an intense 5 months where for many of them they don't see the sun.  This means they need coaches to help with the preseason, off season, and youth clubs.  This is where a unified system has major advantages.

  4. Though "old man" injuries could be competition injuries following through.

    I know my shoulders hurt.

That is what I mean. Chronic problems that have stemmed from wrestling.

Joe you are right it is my right shoulder that hurts and that is the one that was always raised.

  5. As good as that could turn out for the spectator, no coach of the "3rd best" kid would ever allow that. If a kid is a clear third best and the clear top two are on one side of the bracket, can you really picture a coach allowing other coaches to change it and give his kid less of a chance to get to the finals? Would be great for the fans, but wouldn't be great for the other kids in that weight class.

Oh don't get me wrong.  I don't want this to happen this year. ;)

  6. There would be a decent possibility this match wouldn't even take place under the lights.

I know this is far fetched and probably could not happen.  But it would be nice if every year the coaches association got a choice of 2 weight classes they could choose which 2 semi-state champs to put on the opposite bracket.  Maybe it something that it sometimes is not used.  But when you have 2 nationally ranked wrestlers it would be great to get them on opposite sides of the bracket.

  7. I think less kids to state would help our state more.

I think qualifying 16 kids to State is enough as long as we try to make it fair as possible. I have talked to enough people over the last 20 years from all over the place that have watched our State Finals to know that what we have is special.

  8. Just another example why there should be wrestle backs at Semi-State!!

Ewww ewww should we start that conversation early this year!!!!

All I can say is if there are wrestle backs at semi-state I think our tournament will be prefect.  Especially since the ISWCA team tournament is doing great with classed teams.

  9. I have attended all four IHSWCA Team State Duals and in my opinion the Ft. Wayne Coliseum has been the best facility. There are a couple small tweeks that I am sure the tournament director/coordinators will make that will help tremendously with seating. I received the impression from my athletes that the coliseum felt more like a state championship tournament facility than Westfield or Ball State. When we walked into the coliseum many of our wrestlers faces instantly lit up. I have always believed that if you treat a tournament like the super bowl then it becomes the super bowl, and for our kids the facility made that more true for them than in years past. Like I said, there can be some small tweeks made to make the facility even better like moving team seats to the center facing each other rather than on the sides of the scorers table which may allow the side bleaches to extend down further opening up 3-4 more rows of seating. Or moving the team food location somewhere else as well as the tournament directors stage which would allow there to be bleachers on both ends of the mats.

That there is what it is all about.

  10. Unfortunately it sounds like we want our cake and to eat it also. Too many mats for good seating for almost all facilities that we can afford.

We have some of the largest gyms in the nation because we are the basketball state.

What about a place that has 2 or 3 gyms. Start the day with every class in their own gym or 2 classes in one gym and 1 in another. Once the mats trickle down to 6 mats bring it all into the main gym.

The key would be have something like track wrestling projected on the wall in every gym so we can follow everything that going on in all gyms.

Would this be possible at New Castle? I love the gyms like Connersville and New Castle that have the gyms that drop down and walk in from the top.

There were definite issues yesterday. But it a growing process and it was definitely a great day of wrestling.

Thanks to anyone that has been putting work into this. I see this getting better and better every year.

  11. Travis has a pretty good focus on trying to win a national championship and graduating in May, Then I'm positive he will be looking for a coaching job he seems to be pretty excited about that.

Here is what I wonder. If he got his brains and looks from his mom what did he get from you?

Also know he is always welcome to help me with the youth of tomorrow. ;)

  12. Although it was 45-30 against Leo...Leo gave up 12 for FF and our varsity 138 was on vacation and the reserve did his best but was another 6. That's 18! Of course even if we did have wrestlers in those spots it only gives us a "chance" to make the score different. PH has a very solid team no doubt!!! Score might not have changed....who knows.....Great job and great team!

As a former Bellmont wrestler and now supporting Leo...it was nice to see the excitement of wrestling a program like Bellmont. I think people felt what it is when you have a good program that wrestles a good program. Exciting!

Nothing against Leo they are a great squad and their coach isn't too shabby either. But Joe and John Forfiet are losses no matter what. Leo is a 2A school and PH is an 1A and they are fielding a full squad. Plus the 138 from PH is no joke.
