  1. Sorry for the late notice but I just saw that as part of the yearly Heartland Film Festival a showing of the movie Helen|Believe will be occuring on Sunday in the Indianapolis area.

Sun, Oct 8th, 7:30 PM @ Glendale Landmark Theater 10

"HELEN|BELIEVE" tracks Helen Maroulis, America's first female Olympic gold medalist in freestyle wrestling (Rio '16), from being the best wrestler in the world into a series of concussions, forced retirement and institutionalization, through her PTSD struggles and eventually into her comeback at the Tokyo Olympics and World Championships in Oslo.

Unfortunately Kayla Miracle lost in the round of 16.

I believe this eliminates her from medal contention. Is this correct maligned?

I'm not in a spot to look over the brackets at the moment, but if the wrestlers that eliminated her make it to the finals she is still in and will have to wrestle back through the repachage.  However, if that wrestler gets eliminated before the finals, then Kayla is out.

It is now possible we could see 2 Indiana wrestlers bring home a World medal in the same year.

    Has that ever happened before?

Both 2021 & 2022: Sarah Hildebrandt and Kayla Miracle

And  other of them could do it in this one too. So that’s 4 potential Indiana medalist for Team USA if everything falls into place.  But why stop there, we can still throw in Micic with an outside shot by way of Serbia to make it a possible 5 for the Hoosier state.

  4. Murphy lost a close 2-2 match (freestlye) based on her opponent having the higher scoring move.  Decent action early but Nieuwenhuis was always able to scramble to a leg and create a stalemate. Murphy has several almost scores that were called by the ref but got white paddles the other official. Nieuwenhuis did giving up two passivity point along the way to give Murphy the lead. Then with a minutes left in the match Nieuwenhuis scrambled to get the TD and earn the criteria win.

Yeah. I have looked before. Like I said it would need to be converted by someone.

If no one else associated with your team recorded it your best bet maybe to try to get in contact with the family of the other schools coach or your opponent.  I can’t recall how laxed the arena was with fan recording devices but they would likely be the only ones that may have captured it.  As mentioned by Maligned I don’t think anything but the finals was officially saved by the IHSAA.

Not sure about Franklin as they are coming out of one of the toughest (if not the toughest) regionals in the state.  Rest assured,Tonte will have his crew ready.

Franklin had a really young squad last year, but some of them did preform well in a very tough sectional.  Tonte definitely will be looking to build on that this year in a new sectional/regional.

  7. At 100lb Indiana’s own Rianna Murphy will face Madison Nieuwenhuis of Michigan at Flo’s “Who’s #1.”.  Murphy was our recent World Team Rep at U17 and prior Fargo champ.  Niewenhuis just won a Fargo title this past summer.

The Iranian's underhooks and collar ties stymied Jesse most of the match.

Iran’s undertook technique has been an absolute bear to deal with for many top international wrestlers over the years.

They wrestled once last year, Zare won 11-3. Masoumi was only 18 (now 19), he's a totally different build and style to Zare but he would probably medal at Worlds already (lost in the last few seconds to Munkhtur a few months ago in a match he was leading the entire time). Zare is likely still the guy for 2024 but Masoumi is a special talent.

Zare himself is also very young, he's only 22.

Is Amir related to Fardin who wrestled for Iran a few decades back.  Fardin's name comes up alot if you just search Masoumi Valadi and Iranian Wrestling.  Same last part of the name, similar size,  and Fardin's age matches up to be his father or uncle.

  10. Jesse Mendez in the finals against Shakeri of Iran

Christian Carroll up early tomorrow morning. He will have a beast of an Iranian in Masoumi to battle if he makes it to the quarters.

If you want some insight on those opponents or others from Iran the US contingent will likely face, our Iranian friends via the College-International Board have talked some about the U20 event in recent days.
