Yes, but time, distance, and judge score based sports can do that more easily with a set cut number.  It's not a one on one bracket.

And there is also not a set number of state qualifiers.  If you are 5th in your regional but run/jump or throw "state standard" you advance to state also.   One athlete can also compete in 4 events, not just 1 weight class.

This matchup as well as the Henderson-Haines matchup are the perfect examples to debunk the "be the bad draw" myth. All 4 of those guys are bad draws.

A bad draw is not about one competitor. It's about 2 kids who both would likely move on if the tournament was conducted properly - with wrestlebacks.

The Regional Champ is really the one that gets the bad draw.   Your reward for winning regional?  A top 5 wrestler...

What was the catalyst that caused the sectional and regional changes from about 20 years ago.  We drastically cut the number of sectionals by combining them and then making new regionals.

There were number of 4 team sectionals, and kids were not even having to wrestle a match to advance to Regional due to FF's.  I think one year around 2000 there was a 4-team sectional that had Zero 103 lbers...

Sure- wrestlers from the same conference often butt heads MANY times. While ALL were important- none were a “win or your seasons DONE” scenario of the ticket round…

No but it did sept up a Garcia vs Cadyn Rooks ticket match,  that was win or go home.

those 2 combined for 5 state titles and 6 trips under lights.

Potential at 190 for Terry or Goldsberry to see McConnell in the ticket round.

    All of these happened.

  6. Last year in Evansville, 106 was Bloomington vs Castle.

And doesn't Evansville SS also have the most schools compared to other semi states?  You would think they would reorganize a little.
