  1. right, without a qualifier like PA,OH,IL, everyone has a possible chance here in IN. So anything can happen. However, past success is the best predictor for future success. Some of these predicted champs have won 4,5,6 straight ISWA state championships. I believe some upsets will happen, but cream always rises, and those who have been tested in Tulsa, Super 32, VAC Gold brackets, USAW,....Indiana’s MS State is not a stage most of these talented wrestlers will be lacking in experience. I can personally attest this may be one of the most accomplished 6th grade classes IN has seen. I believe you will have 3 6th grade champs at a minimum. Dickman 75, Reynolds at 95, or if he can’t wrestle, Stanley has to be the favorite, and Harden at 110. You could also realistically see Hawkins at 85 and L. Haines (being held back) could win again at 80 if he was registered. Guys... wasn’t saying anything against the potentially legendary 6th grade class. I know they have been tested NATIONALLY. I am sure they will all have a successful Sunday and beyond. Really, though... This type of thing goes without saying, doesn’t it? I was just saying it’s hard to predict the outcome of Middle School State because puberty is involved. I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to suggest that. In fact I think that’s less of a stretch than to be adamant about a specific outcome, or even more so to suggest that “anyone who has a legit chance” has already signed up. But that’s just my opinion. And you know what they say about opinions...
  2. I hear what you’re saying, but these are growing kids and you just never know what’s gonna happen. A lot of it will likely play out as you suggest, but I think we will have a few surprises. Plus everybody likes a good underdog, right?
  3. Many still haven’t registered and I have a feeling we’ll have a few surprises when the brackets come out.
  4. I try not to post in there much
  5. I haven’t looked at the bracket, but OP is underestimating Josh Johnson.
  6. Usually in any controversial decision, wrestling or otherwise, you can see the rationale even if it is outweighed by your contrary belief. But I can’t make heads or tails of this one. Anybody know the argument on why it is being done this way?
  7. Ok. My apologies. So this is like an official thing through IHSAA or something?
  8. Well if that’s the case than whether you’re undefeated or not doesn’t really mean anything considering the variance in competition. You can’t compare a wrestler who seeks out top level national competition with one who has only wrestled in their back yard.
  9. I don’t see that statement on this year‘s flyer. https://www.trackwrestling.com/tw/uploads/O-516224132-2020_14th_Annual_IHSWCA_MS_State_Flyer[9404].docx
  10. This is the best thread I have read on Indianamat.
  11. Even if that mentality is outdated in the mainstream, I don’t think it is ineffective. Quite the contrary. It definitely leads to success. I am not speaking in terms of wrestling, as I am no expert in wrestling. I am speaking in terms of life. And this mentality is the reason I have my kids wrestle. Of all the sports I participated in as a kid, wrestling taught me the most. And it taught me the “mentality” that you’re referring to—that pushing yourself to the extreme gave you an edge over the competition and made you realize that your limits are far beyond what you think. That is invaluable in all aspects of life. With that said, I would struggle being a coach because I would be hesitant to push other people’s kids the way I push my own. And that is because of the change in society as a whole doesn’t fit with my mentality. My favorite coaches of my sons’ are the ones that don’t give a hoot about the changes in society and say and do things I would not if I were in their place.
  12. I was hoping to see Cottey bump up as well.
  13. I would see if you can find what you’re looking for on the ISWA website and if not, I’d send Jason DeLois an email and ask him. He’s the ISWA Women’s Director. https://www.iswa.com/iswa-womenswrestling
  14. My son wrestles in more national level events than he does local, but thank you for the advice. Do Indiana state champs not typically receive scholarships of some kind?
  15. Here is an argument on why one class is better for the kids: A state championship in a state with one class will carry more weight with college coaches. Also, I am raising my kids to think big. Not just in terms of wrestling, but in life. But in that theme, as far as wrestling goes, competing in a single class state tournament is a much bigger stage, and encourages them to shoot higher than a multi-class tourney.
  16. I heard they charge you an additional $15 if you put that code in.
  17. Yep. One of a few suggested outcomes above that I believe either would go the other way, or should be considered a tossup for sure. But hey, you know what they say about opinions.
  18. Congratulations to Cathedral on the big win this weekend at Al Smith! Go Irish!!!
  19. Hey I always thought you were champ725. Lol
  20. Oh, ok. Sounds great. Thanks for being a fan of middle school wrestling. Would love to meet you if you’re ever at another tournament. Please introduce yourself next time. God bless.
  21. Where did you see the results of matches at Huntington Duals?
  22. Hi there. I am Dillon’s dad. Bryce is a tough kid. He actually injury defaulted Dillon out of ISWA state when they were 2nd yr novices. Dillon ended up placing 8th, And Bryce placed 5th, I think. That was the first time Dillon placed there. You registered on this website 6 hrs ago and immediately posted in this thread about this match. That is interesting to me. But yes, the score was 5-1 at Huntington. Like I said, Bryce is a tough kid. Best of luck.
  23. I think Perry Meridian usually has a dual tournament a bit early.
  24. I see one in Hobart 12/22. https://www.iswa.com/page/show/3228720-event-schedule Also might wanna check IKWF event schedule on their website if you’re willing to wrestle in Chicago.
