While I completely agree with you that the way Black went about the whole biting situation was correct and fair , I lost some respect in seeing him throw Rumph into the scorers table. While he may have seemed concerned after the fact, there is no doubt in my mind that it was intentional and that he only seemed "concerned" for Rumph's health because he realized he may have just caused himself a point or even the match.

If we don't allow for JV teams to participate in varsity tournaments or duals, how will the top 10% JV teams get any better? From what I have seen, JV teams from big 3A wrestling schools only have competitive matches with JV teams of other big 3A wrestling schools. If we restrict them from wrestling varsity, there are only a number of teams that they could have a competitive JV dual with.

The depth of this weight class is unprecedented, even with Tonte back down at 195.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if North Montgomery came out with all 14. They have a solid lineup top to bottom, although there are a few question marks. It also doesn't hurt that Crawfordsville is one of the weaker sectionals out there.

Earlier this year I was officiating a match and wrestler had a kid in a headlock. When it turned potentially dangerous I stopped the match and gave the wrestler his 3 points. The coach called me to the table and I pointed out that it had turned potentially dangerous he said that he agreed with the call TOTALLY!   But that if he did not call me to the table then he would have to deal with a mother up in the stands. I asked him if I should just stand there for a minute then shake my head NO! He said absolutely that would work, but as I went back to continue the match I could not stop laughing.

Story number 2....
 
I moved to Indiana from Ohio in May of 1996. In the spring of 1997 I was asked to give the annual freestyle rules clinic to the ISWA Membership. At the time, clubs that hosted a tournament were required to have a referee attend the rules clinic and a pairier attend the pairing clinic. In those days we had a lot more referees and pairers so the clinics were very well attended.
 
About a week or two after I gave the clinic I go referee a local club tournament. I was officiating a Cadet bout when the match ended in a fall. The mom of the losing wrestler marched to the scorer's table and informed me that I called the fall too quickly. She added very proudly that she attended the clinic and they brought in some big shot from Ohio to go over the rules. She told me the big shot from Ohio said that a fall in the Cadet age group was 3 seconds. She went on to say that had I attended the clinic I would have known that and got the call right.
 
I tried to explain that there is no level of wrestling where there is a 3 second fall other than professional wrestling. She wasn't having any of it. I finally asked her if I looked vaguely familiar to her. She still didn't make the connection.

Seems to me wit da print gettin smaller and da paper gettin thiner we ain't gettin no ink. Eitter da coaches aren't sendin results or da paper dosrn't recognize da worlds greatest and oldest sport. Wit all da gold da region gonna bring home dis year u would tink we would get a little love. I know a few of da writters frequent da board - show some ink !

Maybe that was a slap in the face. I couldn't pick Dan Hatch out of a lineup (that's not intended to be a slam), but the next time I see Joe or Nick I may just do that...and they both know I'm joking...more or less.
 
I agree it is the ISWA's mess. I'm not deflecting anything. Let's try to fix it. In order to do that we need to be open to EVERYONE'S opinion, not just our own.
 
These 75 threads remind me of the old saying "When all is said and done, more is said than done."

For starters, having a thread titled "Boycott Freestyle State" on Indiana's premier wrestling site probably isn't helping things

I think everyone is justified in being angry towards the ISWA, but in the end kids are wrestling more freestyle and that's all that really matters. You can't blame it on the Indy guys for getting creative to get their kids more matches.

I'd say close to never as you can get.

Hard to believe that this was a Hwt match. These 2 guys put on one heck of a match with a ton of action that's not normally showcased in Hwt matches.
For the fan on here that wants to throw out jokes about Samuels bein on his belly most of the match, here's something to think about.
Streck was "supposed" to come in and just thrash everyone in his path, and for the most part he did. Then he runs into Samuels in the finals who physically gave up quite a bit of weight to the #1 Hwt recruit in the nation, yet still managed to get a couple escapes, took a couple shots in on the purple hulk and near the end of the match, did what no one else has been able to do, which was put the big man on his back(couldn't hold it). I'd say he put up a valiant effort in my opinion.
Streck, thank you for your classy post in regards to your actions. It takes a hell of a man to own up to a mistake. You're a class act and best of luck to you at Purdue.
