I’m still hard at work picking my team, I plan on submitting my picks today around, say, 5:30 pm. Is this acceptable.

Thanks, I tried to look at the brackets, but I was apparently too late and was subsequently denied the privileged early sneak peek.

Things got a little chippy in a few matches which is a bit expected when you have two top 5 teams going at it. A few extra curriculars that were unnecessary from both teams but I think the official and both coaches did a great job keeping the boys squared away.  I loved seeing Perry’s coach make the 195er go back and give Coach Shaefer a proper hand shake. Class acts on both sides. Great for Indiana wrestling. We need more dual meets like this throughout the year.

Oh I get it now, so I pay the neighborhood boy $10 to cut my grass and it’s ok if he only cuts the front because, well, haha, it’s only $10. You should have cut it yourself sucker.

1prouddad....As a MD alum and fan, I would love to agree with you about your statement but Luigs was pinned. Yes he bridged his way out of bounds but when he wasn't bridging he was clearly pinned. I'm glad he won, but he shouldn't have. I hope he brings his A game next week and finishes his career with a state championship.

He graduated early from HS. He can now wrestle college open tournaments unattached which will prepare him better for next year as a true freshman or redshirt freshman for PSU.

I don't know if anyone else is watching but I am baffled Micic wasn't given 2 points on that scramble. As free as collegiate referees are with giving takedowns I cannot believe Clark is completely on his back without Micic getting the 2 pt reversal.

I'm guessing most matches went the way they were expected to go.  Today was one of the most laid back Evansville SS I've ever attended.  Outside of maybe 2 or 3 matches, there was little more than clapping.  Zero chanting! It was an eerily calm atmosphere. I figure everyone is saving it for Bankers next weekend. Hopefully.

Did you ever wrestle? It's not a sport of glory. It's a blue color grinding life lesson. If kids are joining wrestling so they can be state qualifiers then we are making it too easy to qualify.

I'm unsure of how adding a second class would grow the sport. If young kids are only getting into the sport because they have the possibility of winning a state title because of the size of the school, I think they are getting into the sport for the wrong reason.  If I believed adding a class would grow the sport I would be all for it, but I don't think it would add any wrestlers that would not have already been interested.

And....yes sir, it is about the matches WE get to see at the state tournament.

I understand the thinking behind the class system, I just disagree.  I think there are other ways to get young kids involved. I think taking a young child to the state tournament and introducing him to the atmosphere of Fri and Sat and letting them know if you work your butt off that could be you one day will work just as well.

I am curious is this an argument in track, swimming, golf or any of the other individual sports?  It would be interesting to see how other sports feel about this issue.

Also as a small school coach I have been wondering this.  When my guys loose at sectionals, regionals, semi-state, state, where ever, am I supposed to feel that they were somehow cheated by the system? Currently I just tend to think when my guys get knocked out that they simply need to get better if they want to make it further in the tournament.i Is the better option to tell them that they need to work harder, but also that they are getting screwed over by the set-up of our tournament?

I can tell you we had two kids go to semi-state, both lost.  I thought a lot about why they lost, the quality of their opponents, their ability to step up to the occasion, their skill level, I even thought about how difficult our state tournament is.  I never once thought to myself, man if these guys just went to a bigger school they would be state qualifiers.  If our school wasn't so small these two would have made it for sure, I guess I just don't understand the mentality behind classing an individual sport.

I'm not taking anything away from Brandon James at all.  I think he is a fantastic wrestler and his accolades speak for themselves.  I was referencing the "locks."  I do not think anyone is a lock.  I think Chad Red, Nick Lee, Brandon James, Blake Rypel, etc can ALL be beaten, so in my mind there is no such thing as a lock.  I was simply pointing out that James has not been as dominant as the other locks that were discussed.

And to answer your question, Nick Lee has beaten..........everyone he has wrestled minus a 3-time state champ.

If you add the enrollment of the three most successful schools in IHSAA history (Bloom South, Hammond, MD), they do not equal the enrollment of Carmel. How many exceptions do you need to prove the size of school has NOTHING to do with the talent on the mat.

Nick Lee and Chad Red were men amongst boys at the MD Classic. Anyone know if either have been talking to college recruits? If so, care to share?
