Congratulations to Lowell's Drew Hughes on his verbal commitment to the Spartans of Michigan State. Drew has worked very hard since the age of 5 to be one of the best in the country, he's certainly done that. Now he joins New Head Coach Roger Chandler next year to start a new chapter in Michigan State Wrestling.

Great job, Drew! You a have a wonderful future ahead of you.

My feathers are fine, I just like to point out inconsistencies when you try to take a jab at the rankings. Swank is slotted well considering his loss to Farmer at the IHPO.

And of course when you call an event prestigious and kids that place there don't even place in the top 8 at the IHPO I guess you can call my little tournament prestigious also.

FASTMarine reacted to MattM in Chad Red scratched Super 32?
If Willie says it about major HS events then it's likely right. While the Super32 always has big brackets I know a few are ridiculously huge this year. Some might consider the wear and tear of such a grind at those weights to not be worth going through if your not 100%.

With Red being the proven #1 after WNO he doesn't need to attend the event to show he deserve that ranking. Plus after just wrestling two super tough matches in one night recently he may be slightly dinged up and not wanting to risk any major issues associated with that much of a grind.

Cathedral and Penn have to worry about scoring max points this year with Mater Dei and Warren Central in the mix.

FASTMarine reacted to maligned in Chad Red indiana's best ever ?
Again, this topic is so difficult to define.  Do you mean "most accomplishments", "prettiest rèsumè", most dominant, highest peak level of quality?  I see people defending their choices for various reasons.  For me, I find myself comparing year by year quality level and highest peak quality level, without being strictly tied to accomplishments such as least losses or most titles, since those depend so much on who you had to face.

On one hand, I don't see how you can even compare the freshmen seasons of Red and Tsirtsis.  Tsirtsis faced way more tough guys and had a couple much, much higher quality victories.  His ceiling, based on that season and his sophomore season, was so much higher that I don't even care about the Napules loss (Anyway, how many times did Red face guys as good as Napules his freshman season...3 or 4?..and he faced none of them up close multiple times in a rivalry series. And Tsirtsis wiped the mat with Napules all their other meetings and had no other close in-state matches except for Fargo junior all-americans.  Red had several close wins against non-national caliber guys that could have gone another direction. Freshman Red was not at freshman Tsirtsis' level and it wasn't that close in my mind.)

On the other hand, Red's run of victories in the last year is mind-boggling.  I made the point that he hasn't shown yet that he's as dominant against national competition as JT eventually was.  But how could you be when your weight is so loaded?  He just won the WNO with two guys from the P4P top 12 in his 4-man group.  Also, he may never get past #4 or #5 on P4P lists (JT was #1 or #2), but the top 3 in the P4P rankings right now (Hall, Fix, S.Lee) are turning out to be all-time greats for their age, the likes of whose accomplishments we've rarely seen--let alone 3 guys all at once.  JT probably would not have been ranked higher than any of them.

All this to say, it all comes down to your own personal definition of "best ever."  For now, I still think the distance JT showed between himself and everyone else in the country his senior year and the very, very high level freestyle wins he got in March/April of his senior year are the highest ceiling successes.  But I'm not sure Red's far from doing the same things and he's got his whole senior year left.  It should be fun to see what he does next.

WNO is a very recent addition to the elite level folkstyle events, none of the others mentioned would have a chance to add it to their resume.
However, a few other HS folkstyle events that IN kids can attend or be invited to maybe comparable to winning two big matches at WNO:

-Winning the older version of NHSCA Senior Nationals when that was the only major Folkstyle post season event around. Obviously, the more recent versions have been very watered down.

-Winning a deep bracket at Super 32 of FloNationals where you would have seen a few highly ranked kids in the last few rounds. (Note Red has these on his resume too)

-Winning a USA All-Star or Dapper Dan All-Star match against a top ranked opponent. (Red is on track to add one or maybe two of these to his resume too)

Chad is a great wrestler along with the others listed, but I don't think any have the body of work Reece Humphrey does. Has Chad ever had to beat an Andrew Howe in the State finals? Only time will tell. Chad has all the tools to eclipse everyone. But again only time will tell...

On a side note, Chad's celebration dance need work...He might want to checkout some of Reese's...
