I would disagree with the 2 teams. Just 1 one weight class (220) the past 4 years, having 2 teams would have eliminated Kobe Woods, Gunnar Larson and Evan Ellis. I know there are many more examples, but keeping these 3 out does not seem right. All 3 wrestled for the Gorilla's because they were not picked by IHSWCA. All 3 are multiple State Medal winners.

I have to give a shout out to Laine Frazee 160 from Fountain Central. Had a great junior year going 41-4 and remaining undefeated until the semi-finals at New Castle and finished his year on the podium. Great kid from a great family. Looking forward to next year!

The 2005 class would have to be in discussion. Headlined by Reece Humphrey, Angel Escobedo, and Matt Coughlin. All 3 had great college careers while Angel and Reece are both wrestling for USA. Scott Kelly went undefeated to win a title, Nick Corpe won a title with his one loss coming at team regionals if I remember right. Orrin Kleinhenz won without a loss, and Chris Kasten won a title with one loss. And then you have the big fellow, Lynn Panko, who celebrated an undefeated season at 215 with a backflip after the match.

It was a great run for ASA. Avon has only had 4 Freshmen ever to qualify for State. Gunnar Lason 220, Mason Miranda 106, Nathan Conley 132 and ASA Garcia 106, who is the only one ever to medal. And he set the bar so high that he can only be tied. ASA also had 35 wins as a Freshman. That is better than Gunnar's Freshmen year at 31 and Nathan's Freshmen year at 30. I would say, a very good run. Avon is very proud of it's newest STATE CHAMP!

Kobe was an example to all wrestlers. He had a tough couple of matches. Stilled showed up to wrestle for 7th. Excepted his medal with a smile. I pointed all of that out to my son. Win or loose, that is how it is done. My son has been told by his father that it should be hard to tell if you have won or lost. That respect should be the same for the other wrestler and his coaches. Kobe followed that code. He was a great example to all wrestlers that can see it. Happy my son and Kobe are friends.
