Definitely the premier match of the tournament. I expect the score to be closer than the Al Smith match. Both are always on the attack, should be a lot of action. Mendez is probably the best freshman I have ever seen and I think this match is the determining factor between a one-loss 3x champ and undefeated 4xer. I’d like to say the senior vs. freshman aspect will be a factor, but it never seems like the moment is too big for Jesse.

Best Freshman vs. Senior match up since Lee vs. Micic in ‘14. That one will be hard to top going forward.

I know it was in different styles, but Noehre beat Dickens twice over the summer, should be a very entertaining matchup

Schoenegge wrestled Dickens well. Noehre would be wise to find that video. I’ll take my man Dickens though!

So let me get this straight.  The IHSAA tells track to hold off several days on releasing the Regional and Semi-State brackets to “ensure they are done right”.  But then they OK the release of the state brackets much earlier, but have them all messed up.   And that is even after they had the template from the online show to quickly compare them too before releasing them.  You have got to be kidding me.

    TrackGopher where’yat?

    126 ?

As I stated before on this site.

Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn . You have some State Champs learning from their mistakes early. You have a Freshman Phenom thats won everywhere in the Country and it shows on the mat this year. He will have to learn from his wins . Great wrestlers learn from their mistakes. WE WILL see if these Wrestlers learn anything this year on the big stage when it Counts . Weight class is loaded with great wrestlers and I can’t wait to watch it pan out . Much like at 126 last year.

Cant count out my Oriole. He’s been tested all his wrestling career, if anyone follows the sport like I do, he’s a Contender as well .

    The Notorious

Pistol Pete has informed me that in his “Smoke of Time” he seen that my sons name will be thrown in conversation about Learning from his loses through out the year starting about today at 9am 😂.

So..... yeah! It’s a wide open weight class @Cosgrove in my “opinion” everyone has one .

I see what you did there!  Nice double meaning with the capitalization.  Rioux looked very good Saturday.

Thank you all so much for voting and giving feedback. I will leave this poll up for another day to get some more votes in. Personally,  I think it is more advantageous in a regular gym for a regular tournament to just do First Available.  When you get to the higher ranking tournaments like SS and the facilities are a little harder to navigate around with so many fans, it probably is better to assign mats based on the brackets.

The problem with using trackwrestling mobile and keeping track of changing mat assignments up to the minute, which EVERYONE should be for, is that facilities do not have WiFi and have terrible cell phone reception.

On that note, I must give props to the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corp.  Their guest wifi at Evv North was AWESOME and helped greatly keeping track of not only that regional but taking a peak at some of the others and being able to maneuver quickly through TW Mobile.

Very impressive ! How many you think make it to State ? I’m not from the area to of seen any of their matches. Just asking .

Who to look out for at Ford Center while I’m there ?

    The Notorious

I’m a new fan myself. I can tell you they had no champions, 3 2nds, 3 3rds, and 2 4ths, so they have an up hill battle left to get to Bankers Life. I think an already great season gets a lot better with even one wrestler qualifying for state.  If I had to guess based on what I saw Saturday I’d say their two Jrs at 220 and 285, Macray Robinson and Aaron Breivogel have the best shot.

    Go Titans!

  7. The fact that Gibson Southern is bringing the 6th most wrestlers to the Eve SS behind only Avon, Bloom South, Brownsburg, Columbus East and Mater Dei is super impressive!

They have picked up a new fan in me and I noticed that they only had 3 seniors out of the nine wrestlers they brought to the regional Saturday (8 of whom will be at the Ford Center this weekend). Tell me they wouldn’t have done some damage at team state this year in 2A.

I 100% agree with this.  I think Mason is at a point where he felt like he had to put on weight (to compete with the likes of Stoll, Nevills, Hemida, Jennings, etc) and that he's not where he would be optimally especially with several wrestlers that are more similar to him in style (Cassar, Steveson, etc.).  To me, Mason looked more cut than he does now.  Personally, I think he'll be much better if he wrestles in the 230-235 range (about 10 lbs lighter) and gets even stronger at that weight.  It just seems there may be some extra weight that isn't working for him the best right now.  And to be clear, I'm comparing him to Cassar and to what I think Mason will become 2-3 years from now.  I may be making it sound more drastic than I mean it to be, but I wonder if he would have been better off staying lighter this year (225-230)?  I can't answer that.  It's just a feeling I get after seeing him wrestle several times.  I look forward to seeing what he can do the next few years.  It won't be easy with Iowa adding Cassioppi and Ohip State adding Kerklivet.  But my money is MP is right there in the mix with those guys and agree on his upside.

You think Mason weighs in the 245 range?  I think that's heavy.....
