All of you guys bagging on Washington for gas, injury time etc need to put a sock in it. He lost the match on the first missed throw, period. Slivka was always fighting and that is to his credit. If you listened at all to the broadcast or followed any of Wash's results, you know he cranks out the throws when he thinks they are there. The guy is multidimensional on his feet. I have no idea of the deal with injury time, but for all we know, he can be asthmatic and truly needed the time. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a call to stay in the game. I just find the insinuation that his 2nd injury call as a strategic decision to be unassuming at best and at least, condemning. And no, I have never met either wrestler.
To clarify... (and i know that i really don’t have to but want to help you understand) as he went to make contact with his head, Donahue moved back. At the point he did lunge forward in an attempt to make head to head contact (he likes to be forehead to fire head). Made the mistake of coming forward too hard. It was a mistake but I assure you that it was not malicious. It also took Carson out of his game. He clearly did not wrestle the same after the head butt. He felt bad and didn’t want to do it again. We did get a chance to discuss it with the Donahues last night. Glad to report that we made some new friends. Great people. Culver is going to be very good!!!
Btw.. he’s good with the boos. Not upset about it. Just proud to be a champ. Hopefully the legend of the pb&j will live on for years!
I was kind of disappointed they showed the replay of the headbutt and even more that the interviewer referenced it in the interview. Sure, the wrestler shouldn’t have head butted his opponent, whether it was intentional or unintentional. But the referee made the call and penalized the kid. So I didn’t think the booing was necessary.
Guys it’s fine. Again.. he really don’t care. He’s here at Indy nationals coaching the underclassmen and soaking up being a state champ.
With that said... please don’t do it to other kids. It may crush them. But as far as Carson goes he’s been through enough that one mistake or boos weren’t going to ruin a great season.
I’ll never understand boos to a kid. A KID! Sure boo the coaches or staff. But not a kid. It was an unintentional headbutt. There is no need to boo any kid in high school.
the boos speak to how ridiculous those ppl are putting down a hs kid and don't reflect on how most feel about Carson.. He didn't deserve that treatment even though he can handle it.
Rogers and Noehre are tough competitors. They both wrestled with a ton of heart. Congratulations to both on an outstanding finals match and especially to Rodgers for state champ!
Loved the sandwich at first thought it was a donut. Also a classy move on handling the boos. Kids butt heads it happens im sure Carson never did it on purpose. You fix it and move on. Last year a kid got stitches on the mat. Great kid and family. Great win. Live it up. Enjoy it and dont let anyone take you moment.
Congratulations
There was no tarnish on that win. Maybe a little ugly with all of the breaks? Maybe that's the same thing....
I wasn't a fan of all the boos. Carson got a well earned State Championship. Donahue showed heart and battled hard despite adversity. Kudos to both.
This error had nothing to do with the IHSAA ... they have been busting it on your behalf and are working hard to make this a great experience for everyone. If you have to throw someone under the bus throw me. Mark Durham. The buck for this TW mistake has to land somewhere. They were built this morning while I was in transit from some Evansville events back to Indy ... I should have pulled over at the Exit 87 Country Mark gas station on I69 south and checked them before they went public. I didn't. As it turns out they were set-up correctly, but there is a little check-box at the bottom of the build screen that says, more or less, "use saved lines instead of default lines" ... well, it needs to be checked and wasn't. And you know the rest of the story. Again, I am sorry.
The "Show" was fantastic.
And no one seen that coming from the Bethel Lee match either, hence that’s why they wrestle. You don’t know for a fact how things would’ve played out. What I do notice though is you have a VERY hard time dealing with someone who opposes what you put in here as if it’s supposed to be golden. Like you’ve said on here, don’t get your undies in a bind. It’s all just opinions,Right?
I hear what you're saying jasonbk2 but I don't think it's fair to punish the kids. I think the adults need to step up in this case.
If you're a kid in high school athletics, you do what your coach(s) tell you to do. You might have knowledge what you're being told isn't legal or fair, but you respect their authority and position, and your own position on the team, and do what you're told. It takes a unique kid to stand up to a coach, and ironically that might be what occurred here, although I suspect it was a parent. So I struggle with the life lesson that would be taught by not letting the kid wrestle when they were just following coaches orders, even if they knew it was wrong.
The better life lesson might be for the adults to stand up, accept responsibility and self punish themselves. Yes, forfeiting wins is a punishment for the kid, but c'mon man, that's nothing in the big picture. Teach the kid what it means to be an adult and admit mistakes were made, offer restitution of some sort be it voluntarily sitting out the state series, 6 month off season hiatus (yeah, I know most coaches would think this is a treat not punishment), whatever is deemed appropriate and necessary. That would be the proper life lesson to teach a kid in my opinion...that as an adult, you stand up and take responsibility for mistakes.
Tough deal, I know the Coach is held in high regard..but this is a pretty serious deal what with death occurring for this very thing decades ago. I would love to hear what @ClownBaby has to say about the issue. About time for him to come out and get the Audi washed for States anyway.
