Not sure of the weight allowance but possibly 5# as it seems to be with a tourney involving Ky as in the past(correct me if wrong.

not much coming in from Ill as it’s a small school(400 students) but props to them making the trip to put in The work. You’re only going to get better by competing Vs better competition.

Evansville Rankings will be out by Friday.

Per normal I'll list some kids in multiple weights, I'll list teammates in the same weight (wait Conway and May aren't teammates anymore? Shoot!), and I'll sprinkle in some 5th year seniors. Oh and by Friday I mean I hope to have them out Wednesday.

Good luck this year! The Dirty Dirty South will be rolling and collecting medals. If you live in the Fort Wayne area, skip the trip to Indy. If you live in the East Chicago Area, don't listen to the region hype all year it'll hurt even more when you get sent home Friday night by some hilljack from the boondocks, and if you go through New Castle.... I'm sorry....

1prouddad reacted to SIACfan in Micic, Lee, Red- Breakdown
It is both exciting & unfortunate to see all 3 of these great Indiana wrestlers at the same weight this year.

It is extremely interesting that Lee, someone who could easily be a multi-time State Champ ended his HS career with only one title. As a freshman he was just not ready to beat the senior 2-time defending champ Micic, who added a 3rd title after dispatching Lee. As a junior he faced off against 4-time undefeated in his HS career Red. What may be unknown to some is that Lee was injured that season & only wrestled enough to be qualified for the tournament. But that does not diminish the epic battle that we all got to witness under that lights.

I would say that Lee is clearly the favorite amongst them now after his NCAA title last spring & his strong showing at the Olympic Trials. Beating former NCAA Champ Nahshon Garrett, 3-time NCAA Champ Zain Retherford & 2-time NCAA Champ Yianni Diakomihalis.

But both Red & Micic have the ability to find the top of the podium as well. Let's hope all 3 have a healthy & successful year, & just maybe we see a 1-2-3 sweep by Indiana wrestlers - no matter who falls in what order.

Looks like Stevan Micic will go up to 141 this year. This pits him, Nick Lee, and Chad Red in the same weight class. These are three of the best ever from Indiana in the same weight class. It will be fun to finally see the Micic vs. Red match we always wanted and the rematch of Lee vs. Micic.

Day 1 of Super 32 is over, and we have plenty of Indiana wrestlers looking to secure a spot in that top 8. At 145, we have Hayden Watson in the consolation bracket still alive after upsetting 13 seed Jesuroga. He will take on the 22 seed tomorrow, and have one more match after that to place. Next, at 152, Sam Goin is also making a deep run in the consolations, and pulled an upset over the 15 seed to make it to the next day. He will go against an unseeded wrestler from Florida tomorrow, and then battle the loser of the 1 and 8 seed tomorrow in the blood round. At 160, J Conway is in the consolations, and will face the 17 seed tomorrow, and most likely the 10 seed in the blood round to place. Conway was seeded 8th at this tournament, so if the projected seeds hold, he should place tomorrow. At 170, Kade Law sits in the consolation bracket with a match against the 19 seed tomorrow, and then the loser of the 4 and 5 seeds. A tough road for sure, but anything can happen. At 182, Drake Buchanan sits in the consolation bracket with a projected path against the 11, then 12 seed to place, and seeing how Buchanan was seeded 14th, a placement here is well within his reach. At 195, Gabe Sollars sits in the quarters with a tall task ahead of him in 1 seed Seth Shumate. I'm personally excited to see this one go down, as Sollars has exceeded my expectations before, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him battle down to the last second. Also still alive at 195 is freshman Gunner Henry, who battles against another unseeded foe tomorrow morning, and is projected to take on the 7 seed after that to make it to the placement rounds. Seeing a freshman this far at such a weight is really impressive, and I'd like to see him go deep tomorrow and make a statement. Lastly, at 220, #1 Christian Carroll sits nicely in the quarters after collecting two falls in the first minute, and will wrestle an unseeded foe to make it to the semis, where he is projected to meet 4 seed Parker Farrell. Also alive at 220 is Nathan Critchfield, who looks likely to make it to the blood round where he will face the loser of the 4 and 5 seed. Potentially two All-Americans at 220 for Indiana, which would be nice. So, to wrap things up, across all weight classes, we have 12 Indiana wrestlers still alive at Super 32, and 4 of these 12 are still in contention to take home a belt. 8 of them will have to win two matches tomorrow in order to place top 8.

Carroll falls 3-2 in his match.  But both young men represented Indiana.  Mendez and Carroll’s work ethic and determination to seek out too competition will inevitably shine as they reach the college ranks and hopefully beyond.
