  1. All this talk about arcane "criteria" sounds a lot like the discussions about the BCS that occur around this time every year... it seems to me like using the past year's results to determine the competitors for the current season's "state championship" will lead to these kinds of problems fairly often. I understand that without the weigh-in exemption there doesn't seem to be any method of using the current season's results to determine who gets to go to the tournament; however, sorry to say it, but there's a problem when a state tournament invites Muncie Southside over Bellmont, regardless of how many kids they had graduate.
  2. It was Chase Downing, and I believe it was in the first period of the match, not 100% sure though.
  3. #9 at 120 Erique Early (Fort Wayne Snider) got tossed and pinned by an unranked wrestler from Churubusco at 126 at the Homestead Super Duals
  4. Sounds like he's transferring for sound academic reasons then :. The way I look at it, he'd have a tough enough time winning another Indiana state title, so transferring out of state just to wrestle at national tournaments like the Ironman seems to be jumping the gun a little bit. Although depending on the coaching staff and other transfers you mentioned it could better help him develop as a wrestler than staying in Indiana would.
  5. Gives him a much better shot of winning another state title or two... would've been less likely here. What kind of national exposure does Woodford get during the regular season?
  6. I feel like Huntington North will definitely enter the New Haven sectional as the favorite, followed most likely by Snider and then Leo
  7. Completely forgot Jimtown comes out of the Fort Wayne semi-state and that Crume and Carroll had faced off, for some reason I thought Jimtown goes through Merrillville. Looks like Crume has the upper hand as of last season. My post wasn't meant as a slight on Crume, if anything it was a homer pick as I'm a Fort Wayne semi-state supporter. But seeing as how I was mistaken and they both come out of FW, I'd be happy to see either win state, although with Crume being a senior who's come close before I'll be pulling for him. And Y2, we both know no one cares about the upper weights ;D
  8. If he's grown into the weight, I'd say Chad Red will have a pretty good shot at being in the top 5 at 106 from what I've seen. On a different note, it looks like the Fort Wayne semi-state is getting tougher, with multiple kids that could make the top 5 in 8 of the 10 weight classes you posted and three that can arguably be ranked #1 (Crume and Carroll is a toss-up IMO). Fort Wayne's had 3 state champs only one season over the past decade.
  9. So I'm assuming, as he made it to state, he wrestled varsity 113 for Apple Valley this past season? Kind of surprising to me that a program of that caliber has an 8th grader in the varsity lineup, he must be the real deal.
  10. Did Heistand really blank Farrell in the finals?
  11. I wasn't saying you were wrong, I was just wondering what people's opinions on these matches would be. I never got to see A. Tsirtsis or Escobedo wrestle, so I was just comparing them to two pretty dominant seniors that I have seen. Obviously Tsirtsis and Escobedo were dominant as well and ended up with better careers, but I'd be surprised if they faced seniors as tough as Eppert and Brooks as freshmen at state. I don't think you could go wrong picking either one in either matchup though.
  12. Senior Brooks vs. Freshman Angel? Senior Eppert vs. Freshman A. Tsirtsis?
  13. CJ Red is a stud. He and my little brother are in the same grade and around the same weight and I've seen him just absolutely demolish some tough kids.
  14. Sliga could have won it easily, Berry would probably have had a tougher time but still would've had a shot. Especially if they were weighing 205-210 without having to maintain 195. Skill > strength/stalling almost every time.
  15. I think that was because people were avoiding Jackson and Tsirtsis.
  16. I've been going to the state finals for a few years now and your son's finals matches these last two years provided the most entertainment that I've ever seen. When my youngest and I were driving home from Indy, those matches were the ones we discussed the most. Good luck to Brenden in the future. Tell him to take it easy on those cadets/midshipmen (?) when they start rough housing next semester. I'm sure he'll administer a few bloody noses and choke outs. LOL.
  17. To be honest, Brooks is a great wrestler but has always been a punk. I'm not at all surprised to hear he was acting disrespectful all weekend, and I doubt any of it was unintentional. Jumping into your opponent's coach's arms after you win a state title is a bush league move.

Wahoo for that post. At 220 and 285 the first stalling warning should result in a point for the other wrestler. Maybe that'd encourage some offense.
  19. The posts on this topic hit home for a lot of people. I was a 3x semi-state qualifier, 2x ticket-rounder and never made it over the hump. Still bothers me, and I think about the losses a lot more than the wins. I've often heard it said that no one ends a season without regrets but the guy standing on top of the podium at the end, and that's one of the toughest things about the sport. But I wouldn't take back my experiences in wrestling for anything, and I think you'd be crazy to discourage someone from wrestling because of the fear of failure. Its the most difficult sport there is, but also the most rewarding, and as time goes on you do gain perspective and appreciate what it meant to you.
  20. I didn't see the match, and I have no dog in this fight (the F stands for Fort Wayne). There very likely were some questionable calls, but that is par for the course for semistate. It just irks me that every time she loses, all of her fans rush to make excuses and claim that it wasn't her fault. She's a tough wrestler, but she's not invincible, and I'm sure she's not making any excuses for her losses. I still think you're out of line saying the ref "didn't want" her to win the match. Whether or not the calls made were correct, those are judgment calls, and to insinuate the ref made them out of malice or prejudice rather than simply making a mistake is irresponsible.
  21. 106: Micic, Boston, Brown, Lee 113: Brooks, Phillips, James, Lahue 120: Todd, Campbell, Petrov, Welch 126: Ayersman, LeCount, Crume, Broukal 132: Molloy, McKinley, Forte, Batt 138: Jackson, Lannert, Griffin, Hartman 145: Tsirtsis, Corsaro, Faurote, Hayhurst 152: Mullins, Farmer, Bradley, Brown 160: Harvey, Johnson, Goodnight, Lough 170: Willis, Masengale, Mappes, Dale 182: Lynde, Hurford, Brandenstein, Busse 195: Sliga, Berry, Maurer, Baker 220: Bass, Knura, Biberstine, Robinson 285: Suter, Winfield, Hall, Stauffer
  22. This is a tough weight, but I still think the toughest weight class I ever saw at Conseco was 119 lbs in 2009. How do you think this class compares to that one? 2008-2009 119 lbs bracket from top to bottom: Casey Kenney 4th (Jay County, 2nd 4th) John Petrov DNP (Hanover Central, SQ SQ) Justin Kieffer 7th (Roncalli, 7th 7th 4th 3rd) Ethan Raley DNP (Indian Creek, 1st SQ 2nd 1st) Justin Brooks 5th (Warsaw, 5th 4th 4th 5th) Marquis Williams DNP (Snider, SQ) Jeffery Stotridge DNP (Charlestown, SQ) Camden Eppert 1st (Anderson Highland, 4th 1st 2nd 1st) Alex Johns 3rd (Evansville Reitz, 6th 3rd 3rd) Seve Duncan DNP (Beech Grove, SQ SQ) Oscar Trujillo DNP (Lafayette Jefferson, SQ) Derek Bevans 6th (Yorktown, SQ 5th 6th 3rd) Brandon Wright 2nd (Cathedral, 2nd 1st 2nd 1st) Justin Fuller DNP (Brownsburg, SQ) Alex Filer DNP (Elkhart Central, SQ) Daniel Bradley 8th (Knox, 8th 2nd) Five finalists, three 2x champs (one of whom didn't even make it out of Friday night), four 4x placers, three 3x placers and two 2x placers. Also kind of interesting that Johns, Bevans and Petrov's little brothers are wrestling 120 this weekend.
  23. A healthy Phillips beats Crume IMO, but if he's not close to 100% I don't think he pulls it off. I'm putting my money on Ayersman to dominate the field on his way to a third title this weekend.
