  1. As far as the AA team goes, it looks like we brought our highest senior placers at every weight except for 132, and the difference there was only from 2nd to 4th place. Here's how our AA roster stacks up against Illinois'. 106: SQ vs. 4th 1A 113: 8th vs. 4th 3A 120: 3rd vs. 3rd 3A 126: 1st vs. 2nd 2A 132: 4th vs. 2nd 2A 138: 2nd vs. 1st 3A 145: 1st vs. 2nd 3A 152: 1st vs. 1st 3A 160: 1st vs. 1st 3A 170: 2nd vs. 1st 3A 182: 1st vs. 1st 2A 195: 1st vs. 1st 3A 220: 5th vs. 1st 3A 285: 1st vs. 2nd 3A Just based on state placements, I see Indiana having a good shot at taking 126, 145, 182, 195 and 285, and potentially 106, 120 and 132, which would make this a pretty good dual.
  2. You know they're not still saved in the archived posts, and I figured you'd conveniently forget about them, but maybe I can refresh your memory... it might've been an argument about whether the Welchs would ever AA in DI, and you were convinced they wouldn't because they weren't good enough on their feet. Obviously neither has reached that level yet, but beating the #9 ranked wrestler in the country as a redshirt freshman at the B10 tourney is a pretty big accomplishment for an Indiana wrestler.
  3. And yet you wouldn't downplay the accomplishment of any NAIA AAs from the Fort Wayne semi-state... I feel like I remember someone saying that neither of the Welch twins would have success at the DI level, which was obviously an incorrect assumption.
  4. Figures that you'd be a little touchy about this subject as your alma mater has had some pretty interesting move-ins in the past...
  5. Kearby also coached former Homestead High School head coach Randy Pursley to a state title at Bluffton.
  6. 106 - Micic DEC 113 - Brooks DEC 120 - Petrov MAJ 126 - Ayersman DEC 132 - McKinley DEC 138 - Jackson MAJ 145 - Tsirtsis MAJ 152 - Farrell DEC 160 - Harvey DEC 170 - Steveson DEC 182 - Hurford DEC 195 - Sliga 2013 DEC 220 - Robinson DEC 285 - Winfield DEC 2012 gets 8 and 2013 gets 6
  7. I'm hoping that the OP was referring to Sliga as a high school senior vs. Howe as a high school senior, or this is a candidate for most ridiculous post of the year. I think a senior Howe would probably beat Sliga by 5 or 6 points, might have even been able to get the major. He was just on a different level at that point in his career.
  8. Seems like this thread hasn't been locked because Y2 has a bone to pick... a week ago a thread about a kid allegedly injury defaulting a match at regionals to get a better draw at semi-state got locked after one page, seems like this deserves the same treatment.
  9. I thought it was interesting to know specifically which top level kids Micic's getting the better of in practice, even while giving up a significant amount of weight to some of them. Posting their names isn't really inappropriate, as they were only wrestling each other in a practice room setting and are all in different weight classes.
  10. The fact is that shaking hands with the opposing coaches after a match is the norm in the state of Indiana. We can debate all day about whether it is necessary (and personally I don't feel very strongly that it is) but the reality is that when coaches instruct their wrestlers not to shake opposing coaches' hands or refuse to shake the hands of wrestlers that approach them after a match, it creates uncomfortable situations and comes across as pretty arrogant. I attended a dual this season in which Bellmont's coaches spent the entire match standing behind their bench while a journalist that follows their team took pictures in the corner. To me, that was a pretty blatant display of disrespect. Regardless of your views on the necessity of the extra handshake at the end of a match, it is customary in this state, and acting like you are above it is not great sportsmanship.
  11. Would be interesting to look at how many Peru champs have lost in the ticket round over the past couple of years.
  12. Terrible justification for not having wrestlebacks.
  13. Interesting... Seems like with the exception of 2011, when Evansville dominated every other semi-state, Fort Wayne has been a better semi-state than E-ville in terms of state champions over the past five years. I agree that total state placers would be a somewhat better measure though. Who's got time on their hands?
  14. Shouldn't these numbers add up to 70? 14 state champs a year over 5 years
  15. All studs and names I recognize, because I graduated around the same time. However, not all of the people in that list won even one state title, and even fewer won more than one... there are just as many quality kids wrestling now as there was then, we're just not as familiar with them.
  16. Let me guess, you graduated high school 4-6 years back.
  17. I wasn't stating my opinions, just how the tournament would go if the seeds hold. Carroll has 5 number one seeds in Cardenas at 126, Arney at 145, Malcolm at 160, Duncan at 170 and Lefever at 182. East Noble has number one seeds in Pepple at 106, Knapp at 113, Lutter at 120 and DeMuyt at 285.
  18. If everything goes to seed, Carroll will have 11 in the finals with 5 champs, and EN will have 7 in the finals with 4 champs. Obviously it probably wont end up exactly like that, but I don't think Bellmont has a chance either way. It's gonna go right down to the wire between Carroll and EN... EN won at Connersville but I'm not sure this tournament will shake out the same way. Interesting moving Lefever to 182 for this weekend, sounds like he's been on a tear this season. I think he's got a legit shot to win it all at 170.
  19. I bet Penn's Varsity 2 would dominate Warren Central...
  20. Who said anything about a cradle? Although that is probably one of the moves that takes the most skill to hit from the top position... ;D it's obvious that heavies can't usually hit cradles due to their size, which is why I never mentioned it. Here's a question: if leg attacks aren't one of the techniques that work at the heavier weights, how does Sliga have so much success with the single leg (one of the most basic leg attacks)?
