  1. I don’t know Gavin but I have friends (who know nothing about wrestling) who apparently do know him. They are very impressed with him. They say he is a very hard working, ambitious, polite, and respectful young man. One of them said, “I heard he wrestles for Greenfield. Maybe you’ve heard of him.”
  2. Indeed, a great write-up. Please thank the shy coach that wrote this up for us. And thank you for posting.
  3. Roudebush of Tipton didn’t do himself any favors by getting upset in the finals of Regional. But it is difficult to beat a good wrestler like Bynum for a third time. (Bynum looked really good in that match!). Who would the winner of Roudebush/Heldt wrestle in the round-to-go ... or is THAT the round-to-go?
  4. A big accomplishment for 2 brothers to make it to state together, but not nearly as rare as 3 brothers.
  5. For the most part, I like your picks. I will be rooting for him on Saturday, but Hadley of Lapel is really going to need to step up his game from Regionals to advance. I thought he looked a tad slow on Saturday, so I hope he can pick up the pace a bit this week. Best of luck to him.
  6. At Pendleton, they used all 3 mats for the first two rounds before going to 2 mats for the finals and consos. (I *thought* I heard them announce that they were going to use just 2 mats for the 2nd round, but that’s not what happened.)
  7. Equating the Evansville Semi-State with the “South” is very much a misnomer. Hendricks County and western Marion County couldn’t be much more Central Indiana. And schools from the likes of the Decatur, Franklin, Dearborn, and other counties are a whole lot more south than those schools. Maybe the Evansville Semi-State teams could be called the “Dirty Southwest-ish”.
  8. I guess that depends on how you are defining “best”. If “best” means the semi-state with the most state champions predicted by the rankings guy, then perhaps. If “best” means the one with the most hype, then definitely. (The Region seems to be falling down in that area a bit this year. Where is Da Rat and his cohorts been this year?) But if you are defining “best” as “most crowded” with high quality wrestlers (as I think Maligned calls it), then not so much.
  9. Thank you for that bit of information. I’ll keep that in mind as I watch on Saturday.
  10. Well, I sure hope the parents who were taking pictures and laughing were laughing about something else and not AT the kid.
  11. I know Walendzak is capable of stepping up and getting the job done. However, to finish #1 at semi-state, I think he is going to have to wrestle better than he has the past two weeks when he lost to two different wrestlers. Best of luck to him though. Also, it will be interesting to see who Chase Wilkerson matches up with at 126. I don’t know his semi-state draw yet, but if he wrestles like he did at regionals, LN’s Carrender will be hard to keep from advancing to Banker’s Life at 106.
  12. I thought the Carrender kid from Lawrence North had a great day at 106 as he easily teched his way through the tournament. In the finals he won 15-0 after only about a minute and half or so against a pretty tough kid.
  13. I didn’t see the signal for a illegal move by the ref. I assume there must have been one. I saw the wrestler signal that he was hurt. Was clearly in pain although it wasn’t clear to me at first what was hurt. I seem to remember he was lying on his side first. I think they must have told him to lie still on his back when they realized what was hurt, i.e., his neck. Sure hope it isn’t serious.
  14. One bracket change at Pendleton was that Caleb Gibson of PH didn’t wrestle today. Don’t know if was injury or weight.
  15. I think working out 24/7 would actually be counter-productive to quickly adding large amounts of muscle mass. But whatever his eating and workout regimen was/is, it’s certainly seems to have worked for him.
  16. Any news about the young man from the Deaf School who had to be wheeled out with a neck injury?
  17. I think it’s pretty amazing that I guy can put on 35 pounds (or more?) of muscle in less than a year’s time.
  18. ROTFL Wow, FCFIGHTER170, you sure seemed to have stirred the beehive with what seemed like an inocuous comment. The weather must have fueled folks’ surly side.
  19. That is interesting to hear. A son of a friend of mine was told to show up early at Bankers Life the last two years as a possible alternate ... just in case.
  20. I don’t think it is arguable at all as to whether he is ONE of best 1A football players ever. I think that it is clear that he is, without any argument. What might be arguable is whether he is the single best 1A football player of all time. That is, I imagine some Brett Law fans, as well as maybe some others, would do some arguing about that.
  21. Very true. (And especially if you count EMD. )
  22. I don’t think he was trying to get it fixed here. He was just trying to be informative to those fans who might be printing the bracket. Then he was trying to say he was sure they would be fixed without his interference as he was confident the AD and/or coach would catch it.
